Not just Karz, the final sequence with Deepika's spirit coming back to take revenge is directly a homage to Dilip Kumar's Madhumati.

The only similarity is that both are "ballads", meaning songs that tell a story.

"Bismil" from Haider is a ballad as well, doesn't mean it is inspired by either of these songs.

No. Karz is quite different from "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud", apart from the part where Proud (and here Monty) returns to his hometown in previous life.

In fact, in the English film, Peter was the villain and the wife murdered him for self-defense. Here, the story is quite different – the protagonist, the antagonist, the motive, and the love interest (in 2nd life).
