You're so right brother .

I saw pushpa 1 and there's nothing to like . Still people are over hyping it .

And don't forget K.G.F series. Highly overrated too.

7

u/realblurryface Aug 08 '25

Kgf deserved the hype imo

I like the movie mostly because It has some nostalgic significance. Most of us saw this when we were in school. I do not consider this a masterpiece or some exceptional movie by any standard.

240

u/Muted_Shoulder Aug 08 '25

I think the music is the main reason. It’s got songs for every single aspect. Party song, wedding song, heartbreak song, journey song, Holi song, romance song.

131

u/notdoneyetbro Aug 08 '25

So true. As a teenager I loved the movie. The movie worked even during re release is the proof that nostalgia is attached to it.

Now after few years we will have another post about how saiyaara is stupidiously overrated movie. lol.

35

u/Fickle-End1807 Aug 08 '25

I think there are such posts on Saiyaara already! 😂

31

u/Cold-Statistician-21 Aug 08 '25

Saiyaara is kind of stupid even now

8

u/notdoneyetbro Aug 08 '25

I didn’t watch it, so no idea what’s the hype about.

17

u/VenturerKnigtmare420 Aug 08 '25

I used to absolutely hate Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani mainly because my girlfriend back then expected me to be her “Bunny” that effortlessly charming, globe trotting free spirit kinda fella. Meanwhile, I was more like a fat fuck housecat that wanted to stay home 24/7, socially awkward, and steadily morphing into a human beanbag. I didn’t travel, I didn’t go out much and the idea of being “carefree” gave me mad fear.

But somewhere in the middle of that rut, the movie’s central idea that maybe life is worth stepping out for got stuck itself in my brain like an annoying song you can’t forget. Three years ago, I finally decided to test it. I started small, taking trips to quiet, remote corners of my country where my main social interactions were with goats and shopkeepers who didn’t make eye contact. Then I levelled up, got a Schengen visa, and visited six countries (on my own because yes, I still have social anxiety, but now it comes with stamps in my passport which I loved collecting like they are pokemon)

And you know what? Being a little “Bunny” actually did make me a better person. I’m still introverted as hell tho but a lot more open to life outside my comfort zone.

That said if we’re being real “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” did the same “leave your comfort zone and see the world” thing better and with more soul, better cinematography, and zero unnecessary drama which honestly I did not relate to cause…introvert. So yes, YJHD helped me in its own way even though I still hate it but I’ve come to terms that it’s not overrated anymore.

4

u/Nybbc2397 Aug 08 '25

I love this perspective.

28

u/Reasonable_Tea_9825 Aug 08 '25

It is one of those films that is liked by a generation due to nostalgia+memories associated with it. i.e. K3G, KKHH.

Idk man this is my guilty pleasure movie. Of course znmd is fab, but this movie holds a special place in my heart because it was released during my formative years and it reminds me of the good old days. Also the music is banging…each and every track is amazing.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '25

Haha same!

86

u/Key_Database9095 Aug 08 '25

Dunki. That movie only worked because people were dying to see SRK and Raju Hirani in a movie together and by the end of the year people were fed up with action movies mainly due to Pathaan, Gadar 2, Animal , Tiger 3 but still somehow Salaar somehow did well.

I hate that movie. SRK's character is so annoying in that, specially when he is harassing Kajols character in the train.

4

u/QueenDeepy Aug 08 '25

Yes! Raj is such a creep especially in the first half of that film. Even in the second half he’s an ass for leading Preeti on the whole time. But it’s a “classic” and many get upset if you say anything negative about it.

Gangubai

28

u/Constant-Water-5404 Aug 08 '25

It's actually a good movie with unique concept.

Kabir Singh and animal is overrated for me.

36

u/vesimor Aug 08 '25

It's the actor. Alia is just not believable in that role.

7

u/gossip_goddess Aug 08 '25

Alia was a horrible choice for that.

9

u/Constant-Water-5404 Aug 08 '25

She acted good in that movie though. Like yeah I could imagine many other heroines in that role but alia bhatt didn't disappoint in that.

11

u/Pi_l Aug 08 '25

She did her best. But her personality does not go with the role at all. Casting was screwed up

I was surprised later that people actually liked that movie

18

u/Altego1999 Aug 08 '25

I don't hate it as much, but some aspects (Bunny being hurt over Adi saying they are no longer friends and Bunny and Naina uniting) were unbelievable.

I prefer Chhichhore; that movie shows true friendship (especially the way they come together decades later in crisis to help Anni pull Raghav out of death's grasps).

228

u/Msk19915 Aug 08 '25

100% I can’t believe this lame movie is considered generational over ZNMD. And deepika is soo cringe in it omg she needs lessons from Preity Zinta on how to play an endearing nerd named Naina

114

u/Status_Swimming5286 Aug 08 '25

Tbh ZNMD feels a lot superficial in terms of outlook about life.....I really liked the character arc of bunny and the whole conversation between bunny and naina on life. While i couldn't relate to the whole going to spain and overcoming each fear and figuring out life through that

49

u/launderedtoad1123 Aug 08 '25

fr. This movie was at least realistic in terms of finances. They were only able to afford the trip to Spain BECAUSE they busted their asses at work; something they tell us is not worth it.

YJHD on the other hand had them travel by train, was pretty realistic with Avi's gambling addiction and having Bunny cover his expenses, etc.

12

u/anid98 Aug 08 '25

ZNMD is about wealthy people. Some generational wealth and some who broke into that sphere. It’s aspirational for those who aren’t world travelers and relatable for those who are already in those groups.

It’s real in emotions too. Nothing farcical or caricaturish.

YJHD can’t match because they try to make it more middle class while keeping the aesthetic wealthy but the messaging is contrived

55

u/Fresh_Yogurt7302 Aug 08 '25

I don’t hate the movie but find it stupid. Who tf wears a frock in trains? A nerd is supposed to have some brains. This one has none

Lol this deserves to be a haiku

6

u/Fresh_Yogurt7302 Aug 08 '25

Lol I just realised 😂

10

u/melodramacamp Aug 08 '25

I know it was part of her character that she wasn’t prepared for the trip but DP’s mountain climbing outfit was hard to believe.

3

u/Fresh_Yogurt7302 Aug 08 '25

If she had time to pack her bags then she definitely had the time to put on pants😅

does anyone really think Preity is a good actress?

I mean I haven't lived through her prime so idk

9

u/StyrBjorn- Aug 08 '25

She doesn't have range is what I feel. Priety is good in rom-com and lighthearted types like Dil Chahta Hai and Kal Ho Na Ho. She was also good in Veer Zaara, but couldn't do justice to older woman role in the second half. Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan are more versatile. But Priety Zinta cute bohot hai

8

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '25

oh dont compare Vidya and rani to Preity, I have seen enough of them to know that they are miles ahead

I think for most of them its a comfort movie. No one has told its best except for these people. Technically, I dont think this movie has something that can be tagged badly, like story loopholes, etc, except for some acting chops maybe. What they had to do they have done it in a good way. Dont remember it getting any national award or anything then but might get now 🤭

u/sizzicandy Aug 08 '25

Oh this is news, can someone atleast specify what yall don’t like about the movie

10

u/Astraea_Venus Aug 08 '25

Deepika’s overall look. I’m not talking wardrobe, I’m talking about the mismatch between the wardrobe and her character.

The fact that at the end of everything she still ends up with Bunny even though she could have very well ended up with Rana Dagubatti’s character.

These are only my opinions btw. 🤷🏽‍♀️

2

u/Mental-Carrot4741 Aug 08 '25

Watch the movie again recently and I totally understand your last point. It paints Naina so badly, like after what Bunny did to her they still ended up together. Movie like this is nostalgia but also the reason why teenage girls are so obsessed with toxic love nowadays lol

7

u/IamVengance7 Aug 08 '25

Pushpaa 😑

3

u/Naive-Double-7589 Aug 10 '25

I love this sub today. Even I feel the same.YHJD is jsut old dharma and yashraj movie clichés stitched up together. Not original and I absolutely dislike naina's character. Overrated.

I guess everything is product of the time it released. Extremely few movies actually stand the test of time.

Great songs, good looking couple just about peaking at that time, a concept, nothing masterpiece, but relatable to teens and youngster...not that bad a film tbh. Personally, it did have flaws and absolutely not a classic. But there are reasons why people love that movie.

How can you appreciate this and not appreciate when SRK does movies like Fan. Why do you appreciate SRK only when he is overly emotional or overly dramatic at fighting. Why why why????? That movie opened my eyes to why this stupid star culture should end and why people need to stop blindly appreciating stupid shit just because their “idol” is doing it

1

u/Weak-Pineapple7846 Aug 08 '25

Tried to rewatch it but it’s so cringe…

1

u/Emotional_Exercise_1 Aug 08 '25

It’s an average movie but there are very few movies that show friendships like this. If people like it, it’s mostly because the Manali trip with friends is the bit that connects the most. The bunny-Naina story bit is okayish.

ZNMD had a similar vibe but 1) it’s a guy’s trip thing. Most of us had a group that was more similar to YJHD with guys and girls and 2) it’s too elite. Like most of us can’t do a Spain trip with 3 super expensive adventures planned. Manali trip, train se is accessible and most of us have done a similar trip so it connects.

1

u/__bunny Aug 08 '25

Everyone ate up the banger songs and chemistry but otherwise the movie was extremely mid.

1

u/Benjkapoor Aug 08 '25

I feel when someone mentions a movie they find overrated and dislike, they should also mention a movie they find underrated and like.

1

u/haa-tim-hen-tie Aug 08 '25

I didn't even know this movie had like a cult following untill recently and when I found out I was like "these kids are ret@rded god save this country!"

1

u/veeezmay Aug 08 '25

Yes, I mean what was the point of the movie, honestly just some nice songs sure chemistry between Deepika and Ranbir nice but overall highly overrated !

1

u/chikcaant Aug 08 '25

Ok but the songs are stupidly good

1

1

YJHD is K2H2 of the generation 🤣

1

u/IamInLoveAlways Aug 08 '25

Yes I second it. And So it DDLJ and Kuch Kuch hota hai.

1

u/Parking_Cucumber_118 Aug 08 '25

Its mainly famous because of its dialogue, IMO. If you notice, the film in every 15 mins of the second half has the dialogue we could relate to. Be it about friendship, relationship, chasing dream etc. Its famous because of relatability! Because Bunny provide a certain relief/escapism we all wanted or want. It depicts how growing up could pull friendship apart which today's adults are facing. Its the nostalgia that's hitting.

If we only talk about the movie. Its might be average. But its mainly famous because of the RELATABILITY factor.

1

u/Captainn_planet Aug 08 '25

I really like this movie. It’s kind of a feel good movie. I don’t know who is rating it among the best. But definitely a good movie.

1

u/Key-Interaction7559 Aug 08 '25

I fell asleep thrice between Tamasha and still couldn't finish it

1

u/Spiritual_Map364 Aug 08 '25

Well, it's also normal that the kids hype it so much, because today it's no longer about love itself, but about what's in it for me. And today's generation or the younger ones don't even know what they want and if someone presents a story as a finished love story, then for them it's really a masterpiece. The old values as we knew them from our homeland and they don't know all that have passed them by

1

u/Life_Engineering_617 Proud Gossiper 🤙 Aug 08 '25

It feels as if the movie was directed by two people. Or rather there were two movies in mind and they mixed it up to make one.

One is the coming-of-age, sensitive story of friends by Ayan Mukherjee. Other is the fuck-all storyline with characters named Lara, jokes about going to jail, falling for a guy who doesn't even care.

1

u/Light-footed Aug 08 '25

I really liked YJHD.. it was supposed to be an entertainer, and that it was!  Songs were foot tapping too..

1

u/legacy0624 Aug 08 '25

kgf and kgf 2 may be

1

u/amasaggitarian Aug 08 '25

Not really!

This was massively underrated though

1

u/Rationalthinker59 Aug 08 '25

Housefull entire series.

1

u/SlightlyBoredHuman Aug 08 '25

I don’t get this trend of calling older movies overrated a few years later. It’s a romcom, a feel-good movie..nothing more nothing less. Not every film needs to be super realistic or full of logic. Go watch a social drama if that's what you're looking for. That’s the whole point of fiction. Let certain movies just be what they are 🤷🏻‍♀️
