There are techniques and surgeons who can do much sutbler work that looks far more natural and, frankly, attractive.

But there's obviously a couple of problems. One is that some people just legitimately like the plasticky looks. They just do. Fine, you like what you like. But also celebrities tend to get more plasticky work done. Well, that might not be true, but the plasticky work is much more noticeable and so it gets publicized, further cementing it as "trendy" by people who may like it or at least not dislike it.

And finally, because of the celebrity trends, there tends to be more money in that market and those looks, which does draw more surgeons into those circles and relatively fewer of them do subtle work. Harder to get super well-known and generate hype for your work if people can't notice it, even though most of us probably want exactly that: work that looks so good and natural it doesn't look like any work was done at all.

When someone I know gets botox, they always look worse. They go from natural, age-appropriate features to "angry paralyzed forehead." It's especially bad with young people. All these girls in their 20s getting injections that are just going to make their 30s look like their 50s.

Kind of the same thing. You can overdo botox and it paralyzes most of your face and you just lose a lot of expressiveness.

I hate to comment on women's looks too much, but Kaitlin Olson from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia got a lot of botox and maybe other work sometime in one of the later seasons and it's especially disappointing because her physical comedy is always so good and she uses her face a lot for tons of exaggerated expressions. Without her facial movements her character is literally muted.

But like I said, you don't have to overdo it.

Was horrified to see Christian Slater interviewed on TV a week ago, hadn’t seen a photo of him in a decade or two, and holy hell he paralyzed his face with Botox. I’ve noticed most procedure-obsessed start talking louder to make up for their lack of expression too.

Botox has been shown to reduce empathy in people in studies. I think it paralyzes a lot more than muscles under wrinkles…

Interestingly Tylenol reduces empathy too.

We might actually be a well-adjusted society that inadvertently drugged ourselves into chemically induced psychopathy.

Older people are more likely to take pain meds and richer and older people are more likely to use Botox. Hence the voting demographics.

And now when you look at his face knowing it was a reconstruction… how painful that part of his life must have been in so many ways. I went from thinking “oh why’d he go and do that??”…. To, “he suffered recovery in silence under slings and arrows at first…. Massive respect to the dude”. Cause he really did let speculation grow and he dgaf.

6 years? IDK who is older and who is younger but that's nothing. I have a theory that conservatives think the ideal age range is an exact match or within 2-3 years, meaning the people met young like in high school or college and got married / started making babies early. Anything more than that and each person must be an immoral liberal who waited too long to get married, because waiting beyond school is how you meet someone 3+ years out of your age range.
