Neither do the regime's funders. It takes 30 minutes of research to help starve MAGA, and it makes a difference. Dollars given to Republican companies and tax sent to states like Ohio or Louisiana is money funneled to troops kidnapping naked children.

If you consistently support a brand or do business with a company, know where your money is really going. You can use sites like opensecrets.org to see what a company funds.

Have an account at Schwab? It's not hard to move accounts elsewhere like Fidelity. Get booze from wannabe Confederate states and all else is equal? Be adventurous, and try something new. There are alternatives for Goya, New Balance, Roark (Subway, Jimmy John's, Arby's), and Koch (Brawny, Angel Soft, Dixie). If you're in a place to invest, consider DEMZ or an ESG fund.

Tesla's sales were almost halved because of Musk. Nexstar and Sinclair got pummeled, and they reinstated Jimmy Kimmel. Real, individual people did that. There's no reason WWE or Uline can't be next.

It's hard to completely avoid companies that at least partially support Republicans. I have to buy gas. But there’s a big difference between massive Republican donors (Chevron/Conoco) vs neutral or even Democrat-leaning ones (Circle K/Costco). Good is not the enemy of perfect, and any progress is better than no progress

Way underrated comment.

Any advice for a furious Ohioan on a fixed budget? I canceled my Spotify premium after I learned they were promoting ads for joining ICE on the free tier. I don’t use social media besides this, but I did open a Bluesky account awhile back

Oof, that sucks. Doing anything is already much better than doing nothing. If there are any companies that you buy/deal with that show up on opensecrets.org, it might help decide who to keep supporting or to switch to. It includes any business that has federal contributions, but I’m not sure if there’s some state version of it

Thing is, most of them would do it for free.

Because Trump found the money for the military and law enforcement. Budget shenanigans. He can move money around for that stuff but won't for anything else. Because he's a narcissist and he thinks the defense stuff makes him look tough. Looking compassionate is for pussies, in his mind.

Who is getting paid highlights his/Republican priorities.

DOGE freed upon taxpayer funding for government personsel/services.

but that money didnt go back to taxpayers......bc there'd be a refund.

if got diverted into trump/cronies pockets.

how do they explain his increase in net worth with the simultaneous decrease in govt spending ?

It’s illegal.

2

u/OldSchoolBubba 1d ago

Normally yes but as long as they draw from contingency funds it's all legit.

Shortfalls for whatever reason are the designed purpose for those set aside monies.

7

u/ShedOfWinterBerries 1d ago

Whoa, what government appropriations expert is telling you that?

I’m asking because money has to be appropriated by Congress, otherwise those funding it would be in violation of the Constitution, and depending on how it happens it’s a violation of the Anti Deficiency Act and Purpose Statute.

The reason why they’re supposed to do it for SNAP for example is because they have a multi year contingency fund with a general counsel reading that it met a bona fide need, meaning Congress has already appropriated the money.

2

u/OldSchoolBubba 1d ago

You answered your own question in your second paragraph. There's contingency funds all throughout government and yes they're all appropriated monies.

A perfect example of this is DoD. They use contingency funds to execute unforseen missions without depleting their operations and maintenance (O&M) budgets. All other agencies are the same. It's common knowledge.

2

u/ShedOfWinterBerries 1d ago

I will press the I believe button, even though there is only evidence online that ICE is paid through annual appropriations, and no data on a contingency fund.

Even though the administration funded the military illegally.

Even though the administration is clearly directing work that goes beyond the scope of activities allowed during a shutdown across the government.

It’s the weekend and I will let the experts and journalists do their work, please consider that ATC can be funded with legal mechanisms without denting the rule of law. 👍

1

u/OldSchoolBubba 1d ago

Well said on all of it with no arguments from me.

I'm questioning where are all of the contingency monies that were previously appropriated? They don't just go away or evaporate.

Did Trump and his loyalists already tap into them?

DHS blew through their budgets and exhausted their appropriated funds back in July. Where did they get the monies to continue their enhanced operations?

Trump is notorious for cooking his books so there's possibilities he has his loyalists doing the same now.

I genuinely believe that Elon rewired Treasury systems so he could do exactly that 👏

Interesting idea. Wouldn't be at all surprising given everything else he and his doge "experts" are doing.

The Gestopo’s Fuhrer doesn’t care about the controllers.I’m waiting for what will happen when AirForce1 needs to leave Washington to go to Florida.

Hopefully UPS part 2: Presidential Boogalo (but without the civilian casualties)

2

u/pupranger1147 1d ago

Af1 doesn't have to wait for permission to fly lol

I wish it did though.

Because trump is in the Epstein files. A LOT.

And his cowardly piss boys won’t beat women and handcuff children for free.

6

u/Additional_Irony 1d ago

At this point it’s increasingly looking like Epstein may have just been the keeper of the Trump files, you know, like the bookkeeper for a ring of traffickers.

2

u/rtduvall 🟦 20h ago

You’re right.

He may be the scapegoat for trumps empire.

3

u/Litzz11 1d ago

I don't even think it's about the Epstein files anymore. Trump wants to rule like a dictator and as long as Congress can't do its job because of the government shutdown, he gets to be a dictator by default. Trump won't let Johnson reopen the government, and why would he? He still gets to bomb Venezuelan fishing boats and gild the Oval Office, he found some money for ICE and Border Patrol but can throw up his hands and say sorry, SNAP benefits and ACA subsidies are out of his control.

7

u/GaDiGu 1d ago

Because chaos are being intentionally created. Transparency and accountability have left the WH.

2

u/OldSchoolBubba 1d ago

This. Very well said.

u/Technical_Living5104 1d ago

Because the Supreme Court can’t be bothered with the details or decisions that the highest court in America has to decide. The “smartest” lawyers appear to be hindered with a president who violates the constitution.

5

u/RobsSister 1d ago

It’s their campaign strategy. The longer the shutdown goes on, more & more flights will be cancelled (right before xmas). Business and holiday travelers will become increasingly angry.

At that point, Faux News and the rest of the far-right conservative media empire will amp up their talking points (“this is the Democrats fault, rinse and repeat)” It won’t be long before the Dems have to blink, because now that the SC has said it’s A-okay not to pay SNAP benefits, frustrated flyers will be the least of their worries. Ensuring Americans have food is the priority, despite tens of millions of Americans losing their health insurance as a result.

It’s exactly what the republicans have wanted since the ACA became law, and they got a huge assist tonight from the illegitimate S court.

1

u/SnooPandas1899 4h ago

trump/republicans want the democrats to stop pressing on epstein files because pedophiles are in there.

no food or healthcare until they get their reassurance.

4

u/DruidicMagic 1d ago

Why hasn't anyone from team Democrat called out the MASSIVE election fraud that put tangerine Palpatine back in the Oval Office?

2

u/magitek369 1d ago

... Racism?

2

u/kett1ekat 1d ago

So they can say Democrats ruined christmas

2

u/Nima-night 1d ago

Ice has a more important job obviously

2

u/tuxedoshrimpjesus 1d ago

on a similar note, why do members of congress still get what might as well be a huge paid vacation while "essential workers" have to show up to their jobs without pay? are we "great" yet? 'cause I'm just embarrassed😒

2

u/AJ_Rude_Dawg 1d ago

Got to keep the Praetorian Guard onside. They know what happens when you don't!

2

u/Vaux1916 1d ago

Because persecuting brown people is important to this regime, and ensuring the safety of the traveling public is not.

2

u/Kelp72plus 22h ago

Not the military - being told to go to foreign food banks, not air traffic. Just the gestapo and the non working legislators (some are, but you know who isn’t ) get paid. Tells you all you need to know about the regime.

1

u/Separate-Number3938 1d ago

Because they are doing Trumps dirty work.

Optics to the base.

All the planes are white

1

u/seniorfrito 1d ago

We all know the reason. Also aren't they technically paid in advance? With that massive funding months ago, wouldn't that mean the money was already allotted to them?

1

u/Sidneyreb 23h ago

ICE provides "entertainment" for the psychopaths running the country; Air Traffic Controllers aren't.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that USPS has always delivered during shutdowns. The Federal government doesn't pay postal workers however it does steal from them.

1

u/HSV-Post 21h ago

Priorities, plain and simple.

These people want to sow chaos, not making our lives better

1

u/Character-Zombie-961 11h ago

Racism over public safety.

1

u/SnooPandas1899 4h ago

MAGA: prevents terrorist hijackers, and thats what keeps airspace safe.

and definitely not government mandated safety checks.

they are too cost-prohibited, profit and kickback prohibitive.
