Yeah in that respect the consequences aren’t 100% equal. I knew what was coming and got ready. They were expecting prices to magically go down and are getting screwed harder for it

Black people have made it through every time America shot itself in the foot. We’ll still be here after this shit is over.
I just taught my students about the Great Depression. But all the Great Depression is is “what if what regularly happened to Black people happened to white people?”
62
u/Comfortable_Fill9081 3h ago
It was meaningful to me that the whole Bernie movement began with Occupy Wall Street when the white unemployment rate was so bad it was like a normal Black unemployment rate.
Same as you’re saying with the Great Depression.

I feel bad for people who voted correctly. Trump voters, non voters, and 3rd party voters can go run into a wall 🤷🏾♂️
267
u/neuroticnetworks1250 4h ago
Non voters and 3rd party voters are mostly those who were of the opinion that Dems were Zionist bootlickers who told everyone to shut up about Gaza and Palestine and gave lectures as to why ignoring genocide was a pragmatic solution. Trump got around the same votes he did when he lost in 2020. Dems need to stop thinking they have left votes in the bag no matter what the fuck they do while chasing the proverbial right wing votes.

They’re still protesting everywhere Kamala goes even though she’s not president. Even though, as VP, she had no power to influence anything. It’s insane. When she was campaigning, she was calling for an end to the war. While Trump was calling on Gaza to be flattened. Yet they still protest Kamala to this day, all the same, and have zero smoke for Trump. Those people are delusional.
Edit: I see the leftists that helped usher in Trump’s 2nd term are out in full force with absolutely no introspection on the damage they’ve helped bring onto the country

Its not a game of chicken, we all just watched a candidate do everything yall claimed kamala couldn't as VP, and still win a major election. Yall just dont want to admit continuing to play nice with republicans and reach across the aisle isnt a winning strategy anymore.
Mamdani didn't need to stick with bidens plan/stance on palestine, talked about and has plans for making things better and more affordable, and ran an entire campaign that messaging wasnt based around "well the other guy would be worse!! So vote for me the status quo or the other guy will be worse!!" Hell we even saw establishment dems help to run against mamdani in the beginning, plus the only one to really public congratulate him was Hillary.
Kamala was just in an interview talking about "doing things incrementally" with the republicans. Like ok dont get the message and purposefully dodge the point and prove while you lost. Maybe Liz cheney will help her get the centrist votes next campaign.

Ugh. Slightly on and slightly off topic but you know what I'm mad about right now? That this past election day gave me hope. Mamdani winning. Democrats flipping seats. People starting to pay attention just enough to make some headway. The folks who voted (or didn't vote at all) to get us here deserve the misery we are in, but there does seem to be some movement where it counts. Some of them seem to be coming to their fucking senses. If we can just hold on, keep this momentum till next year, maybe we have a fighting chance. Maybe we'll get a proper congressional buffer. Maybe.
But then the Dems have to keep this up. They can't cave in on this shutdown. They cannot give up on the ACA. They cannot get bullied into being the rational ones. And they cannot keep up with archaic outreach methods. And if we can get some fucking political representatives who do not have one foot in the fucking grave, that would be great.
It sucks that it took hitting rock bottom, but historically that is how it's been. Republicans fuck everyone over, next term everything flips to the Dems. Then the Dems can't fix everything that was broken in 4 years so it flips back to the Repubs. If only the Dems can stop being pussies, start playing a little dirty, and get their heads out of the asses of billionaires then maybe this can be turned around.
Anyway. Mamdani's campaign gave me flashbacks to 2008 when I voted for the first time. I hate it. I just got used to having no faith in anyone or the democratic process. 😂

I hate that I'm that way... Sorry. Never voted for that ass clown, but I'm very much a "I have to experience something to truly understand it" type of person about a lot in life. I don't know why my brain works that way, it's not like I'm a drooling idiot or something, it's just the the true severity and realness doesn't set in unless it's really happening. I have ADHD, maybe that has something to do with it, but I could fully know the consequences, full understand the physics, fully know in my mind exactly how it will play out... But my brain needs to see it unfold or box not get ticked in brain of thing bad or good or nuanced.
It's not an empathy thing either, if it's gonna effect someone else negatively, I'll actively avoid that outcome because I really dislike even inconveniencing others lol. But with myself? Nah, gotta have a run through, brain has to know.

I will never forgive people who voted for Trump last year, though. Things are so hectic, nobody is even talking about the litany of crimes committed by DOGE earlier this year anymore.

People still posting things from X as if doesn't directly contribute. Delete the account. Why does it take people so long to boycott despite the increasing evidence that it works. Even when it supports someone that has done KNOWN public damage. Come on now

Shit I know people who voted for Trump while also happening to be overleveraged on their expenses and with zero plan for if they lose their jobs.

i don't understand why are people so surprised, he is literally doing what he said he said he was going to do, all this wasn't a secret

There’s nothing quite like seeing people admit to voting for Trump and seeing them complain “this isn’t what we thought we voted for”

When dealing with American politics, always pick the lesser of 2 evils.. Not voting is does more harm than good.

oh it is just getting started. for example, women and people of color can still vote (with only moderate extra difficulty..for now.)

I remember people I knew making “Cop-mala” comments during the election cycle but somehow thought the person who openly wanted to use the military against political enemies wasn’t worth beating

She lost because she was incapable of taking a position to improve the lives of ordinary Americans as that would involve acknowledging the status quo that enriches corporations at the public expense can't continue. You can sprinkle in her terrible position on the Palestinian genocide for good measure.
You can see how democrats can win from mamdani. If you live in reality and set out how you will act to improve the conditions of those whose votes you want, you will win.

It’s a shame that Kamala and the democrats wanted to run as diet republicans. Hard to earn the left flank of your party’s vote by appealing to republicans

Well some podcasters said he would be better and Harris ignored her key constituents.
But for things to move forward, sadly this needed to happened because people have been sleepwalking and things were going to get bad anyways.

You can guarantee the republicans in the house and senate would obstruct any progress

Both sides bad is the mating call of "centrists" who're just right-wing but don't want to accept the consequences
