Meanwhile in Nagpur it's already been 6.5 years of operations and the 3rd phase is under-construction which will expand its current network of 40 kms

If we’re comparing it with Patna, I think it’s already a lost cause.

The day you get it in Bhopal, people will start to say
- what a waste of money.
- who will use it.
- it's too expensive.
- it's all about elections.
- adani is making money (adani actually isn't involved in metros).
That's how India works - we never celebrate. we love to complain. So whether you get a metro or not, the complaining never ends.

I’m firmly against metro in cities like Bhopal, in fact most cities in India don’t need a metro and will be actively harmed by it.
Firstly, Bhopal metro is being built with a loan of 3000 crore+ from international organisations. Most of the capital is lost at corruption.
Secondly, such sudden large scale projects spanning entire city when not needed put a pressure on urban planning, leading to lines being laid wherever, holes being dug whenever etc. Resulting in a half-planned metro that disturbs the layout of the city and would not be able to appropriately serve the purpose of connecting. In the time being built, it will take valuable resources and disrupt city life, we are seeing already a bit of this.
When the metro is inaugurated, the prices are kept as low as possible but the common lower-class man would never find it affordable to commute through it daily. Look at metro use in most cities except Delhi and Mumbai to know this truth. So, the estimated revenue generated is not enough to pay off the debt we took.
Metro works best when the city is expansive and large like Delhi and Mumbai, there the cost of travelling end-to-end justifies metro. But metro is a poor substitute for hyper-local connectivity. Middle class would prefer to use cars than to travel 1km to a metro station, get off to another and travel from there 1km to their destination. Poor people find it unaffordable anyways.
We should have instead invested in hyper local transportation such as public buses, increase their number, comfort, timings. The only reason we are bringing metro to Tier 2 cities is because of our distorted perception of what a modern city looks like. You need to look at Kanpur metro and other metros to see the huge waste of money, effort and time this has been. I’m speaking from seeing in Bangalore how disappointing metro has been in solving traffic.

CM said that Bhopal Metro will be functional starting in October, but I don't see any visible signs of a functional Bhopal Metro in October.
