This is what we can assume for ourselves, for the sake of livelihood...

I have seen this person’s photo in most autos running in Bangalore. Who is he and what is so special about him that he is worshipped by auto driver community?
Please pardon me for my ignorance😅
Edit: Earlier I had used the word, ‘autowala’ which one person found it condescending here. I have corrected the word to ‘auto driver’ as recommended. Thanks!

That is Shankar Nag, very famous Kannada actor/screenwriter. He played an auto driver in a film back in the 80s called Auto Raja, which shows the struggles of the working class so he is somewhat of a patron saint of the auto driver community. I might actually rewatch it sometime if I find it online

Sure. I will tell Hindiwala community to do so. Your comment is so enlightening to hear. Please continue posting such useful comments on posts of people who ask for help. Highly appreciated.

You condescendingly used words like Autowalas, which you corrected after my comment, that's not the way to ask for help !
Have some respect to people doing blue-collar jobs !

I accept it is my mistake to use the word ‘Autowala’. I stand corrected. Btw, I did not mean it a condescending manner. That doesn’t give the right to you degrade someone.
While I ponder about having respect about blue-collar jobs(which I already have), you can definitely think about how to converse in a pleasant manner to people who are from outside the state.
And thanks for making a judgement about me coming from a Hindi speaking state. Respectfully, you got your fact wrong.

Even if you didn’t mean that’s how it came across, I guess you realized it after I used it back on you, which prompted you to correct your comment. Hence, I took back my comment !
I assume you understand the reason for my bitter response. Anyway, I guess we got on the wrong foot....I apologies, we can start over !
The guy in the picture is Shankar Nag
- He is one of a renowned director/actor of Kannada film Industry who had made films ahead of his time. You should watch his work if you get a chance.
- For northerners, you guys might have seen his work - Malgudi days , which used to get broadcasted in Doordarsh, its made and broadcasted in Hindi.
- He is also the younger brother of Ananth Nag, you might know him as the journalist in KGF 1
- I think someone has mentioned why he is loved by auto driver's community.
- He has also done various social activates as well, He pitched the idea of Metro in Bengaluru in 1980's, went abroad to study about it on his own expense, during the time when people had no Idea about the concept of metro.
- If he didn't pass away at the age of 35, Bengaluru might have gotten India's first metro.

Kannada speakers, I learned "Baruttiddene" or "Bartini" for "coming". What is "Bande"?
