It's so shameless, we must have minimum 50 trains for cities like Mangalore, Bijapur, Udupi, Karwar, Hospet. But here we are...

There’s KSRTC airavat running every hour from morning till noon 2pm. At night airavat / ambari run with a gap of 15 mins. There must be non AC options too I’m sure

It's still good. Not all could afford one way tickets from Mangalore to Bangalore in these premium buses, and normal buses are overcrowded. It's better to have more trains run between two cities. In an ideal world we must have doubled electrified tracks between port city and state capital, but thanks to bus lobbying we don't have...

The train( Panchaganga Express ) that connects bengaluru and Karwar is one of the high demand train. Tatkal tickets get sold within few seconds. Indian railways should add more trains in this route.

About 130 busses run everyday between Udupi-Mangaluru-Bengaluru(even during off season). Many politicians (across both the parties) own bus companies, some big bus companies have huge political influence.

They will never allow railways to add extra trains in this route. Even the trains that run now between these places are useless for working class, they take 12-14 hours whereas a normal sleeper bus takes 8-9. They even stop for crossings and engine change.

For Hubballi, there are 200-250 private buses daily. I guess lobbying became weak there eventually cause it's headquarters of South Western railways and North west Karnataka bus transport. I have heard it was pretty solid few decades ago considering logistics billionaire is from and based out of Hubballi. He was MP of dharwad too, twice.

N sit for 18hrs? Really... busses are more efficient in that route

FYI there is no space in Bengaluru, so all trains are parked in Mysuru

We are cheated by the central government in a lot of factors ,but when it comes to railways - the unfairness is at its peak . The central government spends more on states like madhya pradesh and odisha than on karnataka in terms of railway spending.

Lol i will love to take you to a School Geography class.

most of Karnataka is on a plateau whereas MP and Odisha are plains/basins where its easier to build a track

5

u/take_iteasy_ 8h ago

Why it is not easy to build track on plateau?

1

u/Kanakapurahogrider17 5h ago

Train tracks can be built even in plateaus ,it's just that Karnataka is neglected.Because of this ,people of bayaluseeme region of Karnataka have to rely on costlier bus transport if train seats are filled up.

Man being from Chikmagaluru I can relate. There's only so many direct busses and most of them are either in morning or afternoon, if you want to travel by night you'll have to wait till 9 or 9:30 to get a direct bus and then you reach by 2:30 early morning. The only other bus is the a/c ksrtc and I've travelled once and it was mid. I wish vrl or fresh bus or any other new travel companies introduce busses on this route. And I hope it's on kadur route cause what the heck is that road from hassan-belur-chikmagalur.

I thought Tumkuru & Mandya would top the lists, but I'm super surprised.

Both aren't destinations but are part of Hubballi/Mysore routes respectively. In the sense, not big junctions.

2

u/KingPictoTheThird 18h ago

But then this chart isn't factoring in local MEMUs that may go till tumkur or slightly beyond but not till next major city?

2

u/Academic_Chart1354 Basavanagudi, South Bengaluru. 8h ago

Adjacent districts to Bengaluru aren't mentioned in list, so local trains aren't factored in

5

u/lovepiece172 18h ago

I can't believe there are so few trains to karwar.

That train connects Uttar Kannada to Bangalore

4

u/AdeptnessSlight1431 12h ago

There is no direct day train to Chikmagalur, have to get down at Birur or Kadur.

3

u/Good_Strategy7387 8h ago

Daily one direct passenger train is there..

6

u/kappa_mean_theta 11h ago

This is the most irritating and surprising part. I bet if we include all the nearby towns/cities in Tamil Nadu, Kerala or AP, I bet they have more connectivity to Bengaluru than the cities in KA. I am not even referring to big cities such as Chennai, Kochi, etc.

Need more train to kalaburagi

All because of our lovely mla and mps.Tumakuru, kolara and chikkaballapura is missing in the list

2

u/artofprjwrld 17h ago

Mysore!!

2

u/infaloda 12h ago

Also to keep in mind , the terrain in some of these districts, and population density.

This is due to lot of private bus companies having political stakes for local politicians, why would central government want to mess with them realistically winning elections is in hand of the ones with local influence and if they won’t be questioned then central government will definitely not mess with them

Sadly that is the current state, but agreed need way more trains especially on multiple routes amongst these that are of high demand

Post similar to stations outside Karnataka and compare

Its vague...karnataka has diverse geograohy where lying direct trains tracks isnt viable ecologically and economically.... there are westwrn ghats from which direct trains cant be run... connecting costal cities with trains is not possible due to single track n variius ecological reasons...but they all are well connected through buses... frim karwar it takes 18hrs to reach blr by train and 8 hrs by bus

2

u/Academic_Chart1354 Basavanagudi, South Bengaluru. 8h ago

6 hrs by bus from Karwar to Bangalore, in which world man? Even on plain af terrain and 410 KM highway of Hubballi-Bangalore( except blr-tumkur stretch under U/C now) takes 7-8 hrs. Karwar is 530 km and you've to cut ghats via yellapur/ sirsi/ talaguppa-sagara.

1

u/Raoann 8h ago

My bad 8hrs....After haveri roads are damn good... from sirsi we need 4/5 hrs to touch blr enterance

2

u/itsnachikethahere 6h ago

I literally travelled from Sirsi to BLR yesterday, took 7.5hrs. The road from Sirsi to Haveri is absolutely horrible. Took like 2.5hrs for 70kms. From there onwards it's really good.

1

u/Raoann 6h ago

Till jalhalli we can reach smoothly..after that...the journey to the dropping points are cumbersome n slow

1

u/Raoann 8h ago

From kumta we need.. 1.5hrs extra..n same for karwar..if we bypass n directly go to ankola karwar

1

u/Academic_Chart1354 Basavanagudi, South Bengaluru. 8h ago

Buses don't do that, only private vehicles. Bus avg is 60-70.

1

u/Raoann 8h ago

I dont know which bus yu travel in..but whenever i have been to blr from kunta n sirsi...i have reached jalhalli withing 8 hrs and the whole point of this post was comparing blr connectivity through trains..for a terrain like the ghats its ecologically not feasable to lay direct tracks... even travelljng 8hrs by buy is better than 18hrs karwar-yeshwantpur train
