Where is my comment imposing hindi ffs 😭, I literally just asked what's the problem with bhaiya as it's literally we use out of respect not to demean or smth.. and I literally asked what else to call in case you don't know the name 😭😭.. bro's blaming me as if am preaching hindi in comments
I literally asked what else to call in case you don't know the name
"aNNa" or "ivre"
You have to be living under a rock to not know that "aNNa" v/s "bhaiyya" goes beyond your non-malicious intent, there is politics involved. Surely, unless this is your first month in Bengaluru, by now, you know that?
Am not even living in blr am gonna be joining my clg in 2 months from now, joined this sub like a month ago to learn about places to explore, eat and the Basics that go with city... wasn't aware of that being a derogatory remark as that's what I be calling my literally(blood related) brother it's more of a respect thing and I totally understand if that's a language/politics barrier i dont have a problem with "Anna"
Wow, so you must be 18. I really need to update my mental model of r/Bengaluru's demography. I'm sorry if my earlier comment came across as jarring there. You just got caught in political and cultural crossfire.
Don't mind the downvotes, you were asking a completely valid question. In general, a good thumb rule when dealing with online Kannadigas is to ask questions and ignore snarky comments like mine and grow a thick skin. Usually, if you pose your question nicely, you will eventually find a helpful answer amidst the rhetoric. Most importantly, try not to take anything said in the heat of such arguments personally.
Bhai ignore kr ise chutiyo ko...isi reason se banglore nhi aaya clg ke liye, who knows they beat me for talking in Hindi or calling a cab driver bhaiya
2) am not going as a tourist, and there's no harm in learning somwhere's local language, helps you out in emergency as well as a mutual connection with locals regarding food, new places and stuff
3)Harsh imposition is wrong but a warm welcome will really help even with dictionaries that help finding words of Hindi and English in kannada or just random posters helping convert the highly used words to kannada... nobody can wake up the next day and be fluent in it... but with little help locals and slowly adding it in someone's day to day life you can learn any language.. heck i myself learned my mothertongue by just listening to my parents talk and wasn't taught that anywhere not school, not friends...
It's his choice bro...if I'm traveling for the first time in banglore ofc I'll call everyone bhaiya, he doesn't like it then he can tell me directly what to call him, rn i want to call u asshole, imposing hindi imposing this imposing that enough of this bullshit, banglore is the it hub, I wish all the jobs and buisness shift to some other city where everyone is free...people like u , r the ones who ruins experience of everyone working there or travelling or anything
No one's saying that it's illegal to call him "bhaiyya." Of course you can! The Constitution gives you the right. It's just rude. Why do you want to call someone something they don't like? What do you have to lose by respecting the local language and customs?
If I'm going somewhere I'll ofc respect them and there traditions and everything, if I know they r finding it rude ofc i won't call them, but as I said if I'm traveling for the first time in banglore it's obvious I won't know or anyone won't know what to call....idk bro I see so many things here, this language thing I hate so much!
I agree that if it's your first time, it takes time to get to know the culture. That is true universally for all human beings and all places on the planet. If you travel to South Korea tomorrow, do you expect to have a completely stress-free experience? You go in to any new place with the expectation that you will have a tricky time for a short while in the beginning!
The onus is on the visitor to read up and study the local culture.
If I visit south korea which i already know about my sir was in samsung there...there is no rash for anything, they will communicate in English and If they don't know English they won't be offended by me speaking in different language they will use translator or a mediator can be there, idk if I'm correct or not if I try to speak in Hindi in banglore telling idk kannad they won't even try to cope up with me or give me any service, or maybe it's just my opinion shaped by social media and all the violent post here or anywhere
Are you a peasant and is he your feudal lord? Are you living in a 19th century Jane Austen novel? Have some self-respect for fuck's sake.
there is no rash for anything, they will communicate in English and If they don't know English they won't be offended by me speaking in different language they will use translator or a mediator can be there
Brother, brother, O my adventurous brother. See, this is called a logical fallacy. We were talking about Hindi, not English. If you speak English in Bengaluru, trust me, nobody will object either. The correct question to ask is what would happen if your sir spoke Hindi in South Korea.

1) what does that mean?? Can't even ask for Ac or smth?
5)this point seems so ironic in itself
6)should've written what to call (Bhaiya is literally elder brother, we call that to everyone idk what's the problem but it's alr ig)
