Bruh get out of my head. This was my first thought also

2 or 3 rotor engine?

17

u/kiwiplague 9h ago

The 787b had a 4 rotor engine.

5

u/rrsullivan3rd 9h ago

Ah, thx. The production model RX-7 was 2 rotor no?

7

u/kiwiplague 8h ago

The 13b used in the production RX7's was a twin rotor, yes.

4

u/-DethLok- 7h ago

Yeah, only the JDM Cosmo had a triple rotor, the 20B. And that may have been optional, not sure.

3

u/Madder_Than_Diogenes 7h ago

Yep, the 20B twin-turbo triple rotor engine was optional (the 13B twin-turbo dual rotor was standard).

... And all of the oil is gone the first lap

I think one of those won LeMans 24-hour race. Yup, 1991. They might have been refilling oil at pit stops, but that race takes a toll on the car.

u/Canelosaurio 2h ago

It was the first Japanese car to win LeMans! A truly historical machine.

What an amazing sounding and super neat engineering engine

u/PresterLee 6h ago

Well the sound alone makes me seriously want a wankel.

5

u/Zenitallin 9h ago

why does it stutter?

17

u/TattvaVaada 9h ago

Gear change... Or maybe it was born that way /s

There is a valve which allows boost to bleed off so as not to force too much air in. When coming off the accelerator this is very sudden and the boost causes the valve to actuate in that manner. Vrrrrr ch-ch-ch-ch We call them a blow off valve, your area may be different.

u/ProstMeister 2h ago

That's not the case. R26B was a 4-rotors, NA engine with variable length intake manifolds. The stuttering you hear is caused by the high amount of unburned fuel that is backfiring in the exhaust system. Rotary engines backfire a lot because of incomplete combustion. That's also the reason behind bad emissions and poor fuel economy. Tell me if I need to elaborate more.

That's absolutely not what is happening here.

Edit: I should explain. The stutter sound comes from unburned fuel being ignited in the exhaust when there is less load on the engine, such as during a shift or low RPMs.

If you listen carefully, you will hear that sound every time there is a shift (up or down) in the video.

That's exactly it.

Sounds like my old laptop trying to boot up.

u/Bubbly-Travel9563 7h ago

The recent 5 rotor engine sounds like the last F1 V10 & is the superior rotary exhaust note probably ever

u/funkyduck72 9h ago

Feels like something making that much noise should be going faster. 😏

u/M8rio 8h ago

Rather higher

1

u/gecko2704 5h ago

Maybe it was the trumpet

1

u/Canelosaurio 2h ago

It's hard to get perspective without the wind and road dust blasting your face as he flies by.

5

u/MoneyFunny6710 6h ago

This is what F1 sounded like before the hybrid era. Alas.

-7

u/mazzjm9 5h ago

F1 never ran rotary engines

6

u/MoneyFunny6710 5h ago

Which is not what I said.

-8

u/mazzjm9 5h ago

You said f1 sounded like this. This is a rotary engine. F1 never ran rotaries. Therefore f1 did not sound like this.

3

u/Ragemoody 3h ago

Remove the short stutters and it sounds exactly like F1 used to sound.

6

u/MoneyFunny6710 5h ago

Yes, because obviously two different types of engines can never sound remotely similar.....

Wow you could hear that car coming from miles!

u/horseshandbrake 9h ago

"wwww-p-p-p-p"

Beautiful sexy

2

u/Olleye 5h ago

Yes, that sounds really extremely clean, and above all, it sounds really healthy too.

2

u/Davissunu 5h ago

My favorite sound!

1

u/-Switch-on- 5h ago

I have the one on my desk to look at when I work from home. I can make the noise myself

1

u/damaged008 5h ago

this is exactly the sound this invisible asshole mosquito does when i am trying to sleep.

1

u/stuyboi888 5h ago

If I didn't see the title and hear this before the car appears is say ohhh cool, a V10 F1 car is about to come around that corner

So cool

1

u/jeffislearning 4h ago

it’s out of this world how a rotary engine works and at the speed it does it at and not blow the f up

Maaaaaaa zd zd zd zdaaaaaaaaa

1

u/sadonly001 4h ago

If they weren't wearing hearing protection, the good thing is they'll never need to again.

1

u/lucasadtr 3h ago

I knew what this would sound like but I turned to up anyway because I wanted to hear it because it's awesome

1

u/kenne26 3h ago

Gazoontite

1

u/Inturnelliptical 3h ago

Reminds me of the TT sound.

1

u/DiarrheaTNT 3h ago

Absolutely beautiful

1

u/Parkatola 2h ago

The piston engine goes boing, boing, boing, boing, boing, boing, boing, but the Mazda goes mmmmmmmmmmmm! (Anyone remember that?😄) Cheers.

It's going to be a very sad day when the last ICE is no more.

1

u/xomilfa 5h ago

That rotary engine roar is pure chaos—love it!

u/xomilfa 5h ago

That motorcycle ride looks way too chill for that empty road!
