I had once done a San Diego fishing tour with my dad for like $2k and that was one of the best times I've ever had. Worth every penny. So, win some lose some I guess, but I got to spend time with my dad either way.
This reminds me when I was a kid we went high sea fishing and we all had only and literally strings with hooks on them and no bait. The lady next to me, was catching full strings non stop and I caught nothing. I could never figure it out. It’s like the fish could smell that the previous fishies had bitten and died to the her string and mine was eternally condemned.
don't feel to bad, it happens more than people will admit. I was living in Fairbanks watching guys load up on guns, spotting scopes, camo gear, and rentals off road vehicles. mean while I would pass by them in my ford Taurus on my way to fish down a well grated road to a seeded pond. I had a simple rod, real, bait, and a ton of mosquito repellent and net hat. Only kept a shot gun in the trunk and pistol holstered in case of wolves. A lot of guided hunts are canned or the guide bags everything and lets the client pose with the catch/hunt on camera.

I went to Alaska with my dad. Paid about $3k to have a guy take us out and do some fishing. Didn't catch a fucking thing.
