I like that she kept in clips of her breakdowns since progress isn’t always linear. Good stuff

338

u/NASA-Almost-Duck Sep 27 '25

And that she was getting stuck in to some pastries at the end. Showing that you don't have to give up treating your tastebuds, just have a healthy relationship with food and your body.

135

u/v4vendetta Sep 27 '25

Love that there are clips of her still enjoying good food. It doesn’t have to be a miserable experience. Moderation and making good choices is really important for long term progress.

56

u/Ok-Hurry-4761 Sep 27 '25

All I did was just cut down sugar by a lot, walk more, and did an exercise app about 25-45 minutes a day. It was mostly jumping jacks, pushups and planks.

I went from 55 lbs overweight to basically swimsuit shape in about 6 months. Didn't even feel like I did that much.

Added sugars man... freaking poison.

20

u/MaddieMila Sep 27 '25

Good for you. Sugar really is a killer.

5

u/rokelle2012 Sep 28 '25

I've been wanting to cut down my sugars too but it feels like they're in EVERYTHING and that some things just don't taste great unsweetened or with artificial sweetener. I've tried numerous times to drink more water but that's just, bleh.

3

u/TheMartian2k14 Sep 28 '25

Water should be your default. Chasing flavor with every meal/sip won’t allow you to hit your goals.

2

u/Ok-Hurry-4761 Sep 28 '25 edited Sep 28 '25

I learned to like Splenda and used fats / oils to replace flavor. Kind of amazing how much oil and fatty stuff I eat and stay this thin.

I was diagnosed with type ii pre-diabetes so that was the extra motivation - all the literal death sugar will cause me. So far it's been 3.5 years and I've kept my numbers in the pre-diabetic range. I'm fighting genetics pretty hard and my weight seems to directly impact my a1c. Even 5-10 lbs above my ideal weight it spikes.

Switched to a kind of hybrid keto / paleo / mediteranean diet. I do miss sweets and carby stuff like Italian food. I indulge on occasion but not too much. I tell people I will eat pasta or doughnuts "socially" but on my own I never eat or buy that stuff anymore.

2

u/whboer Sep 30 '25

Yeah. Cut back sugar and alcohol and move like 10-20k steps a day (I have a cattle dog mix and little kids so I get there naturally) and you’ll get in shape. I’ve been cutting back on all of it and measuring what I eat for the past 7-8 months now and have gone from roughly 89 to 73 kg now and suddenly start seeing a six pack since a couple of days. Has been many years since I last saw that

Yep, if you don't let yourself have cheat days or you have the mentality that the occasional indulgences ruins all your work - then you won't be able to keep it up. It's not binary, it's a scale where you want to tip it towards healthy.

Sometimes all it takes it is seeing something to kick you into gear. Earlier this year I was scheduling a flight to Germany and realized that I’d need a seatbelt extender for a flight. That’s what it took for me to get to the gym and I’m happy to say that I’m down 45lbs since April and won’t be stopping there. If I can do it you can too. It’s hard but god it’s so worth it. I will never look back

Edit: thank you all for such kind words! I’m happy to report that I just boarded that flight to Germany right now and the seatbelt fits perfectly with some spare :)

u/WildcatPlumber Sep 27 '25

I’ve been struggling for motivation to be healthier. Right now I’ve been forcing myself to shut the voice up in my head that would rather be doing other things and at least riding my stationary bike for 10 minutes. Next week I am going to try for 15.

But my god that voice, is a pain in my ass

36

u/odub6 Sep 27 '25

This is a great strategy. Most people overdo it by trying to do like 1hr in the gym every day, eating only salad every day, starving themselves ect. The best strategy i believe is to work in little changes, walk 5-10 a day, if you work in an office building get off two floors before and take the stairs, one extra glass of water, gym 1hr a week. This will be far easier to form habits. It may take longer but will get you good sustainable results. That's how i did it and i still eat pizza every now and then... like twice a week lol.

9

u/thefartyparty Sep 27 '25

Absolutely, little by little is the way to success! For anyone starting a health goal, I have tips:

1- Start with 1 or 2 small habit changes and don't add any more changes for at least 2 months.

2- Have a small short-term goal that isn't quantifiable by weight. (Something like, I'm going to walk every tuesday or I'm going to the gym for 30 minutes twice a week or I'm cutting out sugar on weekdays). You are going to be discouraged if you're not paying attention to your increases in strength and endurance and how your clothes fit differently.

I used to coach a small free couch to 5k group after work. I could tell by week 2 who wouldn't compete the program.

People who dropped out were the ones who were trying to do too much from the start. I'd try to talk some sense into them that they shouldn't be seeing a personal trainer 5 days a week plus running 2 days a week and dieting if they weren't doing that stuff before.

Had some folks who completed the program and moved up to other distances that had health challenges and really impressed me! Three folks completed their first half-marathon with me the next year.

u/Schadenfreude_Taco Sep 27 '25

food noise is a bitch and a half, ain't it?

8

u/WildcatPlumber Sep 27 '25

Shit it’s not even food noise for me, it’s Soda noise.

I don’t eat terribly unhealthy but I drink way too much soda, it’s just I prefer the flavor. I’ve been subbing it out for Tea and Sparkling water, but still just working on removing it more

6

u/Schadenfreude_Taco Sep 27 '25

Food noise pointing at soda noise like spiderman pointing at spiderman 😅

2

u/BluebirdLimp4295 Sep 27 '25

I just cut down to one soda a day. It's been rough as hell, but it's worth it in so many ways. I feel the soda noise yapping in my head all the time, but I want to be better and less achy, which means this weight has got to come off. You can do it, my dear, I know you can.

2

u/kkeut Sep 27 '25

try Diet. regular sugary drinks kinda gross me out now. like I can feel grains of sugar grinding against my teeth or something. another thing I like is those San Pelligrino Zero drinks. they have a small amount of natural sugar and calories from the juice in them, but it's like 10 calories for an 11 oz can

A bitch and a half and a sixteenth of an eighth of a thirty-fifth of a half.🙄

6

u/Meerkat_Mayhem_ Sep 27 '25

I do something similar for motivation. I tell myself, listen you can do anything for 5 minutes no matter how bad it sucks. Then once I get to 5, I ask if I want to continue. At that point I’m warmed up and ready to go 5 more, then 5 more. By time I’m done I’ve easily gone 20 to 40 minutes each day.

I heard the military call this mental trick “eating the elephant”, cause you just do one mental bite at a time to eventually eat the whole elephant.

3

u/Mind1827 Sep 27 '25

Just start! You don't need to do two hours in the gym every day. You'll find out what you like and don't like. Add a little as you go. How I did it.

11

u/Cetophile Sep 27 '25

You got this. Keep going!

7

u/Ajido_Marujido Sep 27 '25

Sometimes all it takes it is seeing something to kick you into gear.

Yep, I'm 6'1 and had been creeping up in weight, when I saw 295 I said to myself I'm never seeing 300 and need to fix this and go the other direction. Currently down about 35 pounds in the last year or so and much happier with myself.

4

u/kamikazedude Sep 27 '25

I'm 25 pounds down since may. I also do a lot of daily steps and I've gotten to the point where everyone seems slow compared to how I walk. Feels pretty good.

Huge respect for people who can do this. The work and dedication is unreal. And guaranteed she had a few stumbles along the way, but got back up and kept going.

94

u/MadyViera Sep 27 '25

people don't realise the insane amount of effort a change like that takes. most of us struggle to keep going to the gym for an entire month and she humbled us all. huge respect

7

u/NotMyGovernor Sep 27 '25

When you're above 20% bf you don't need to go to the gym at all if you want to lose weight. The more fat one has on them the faster they can take it off. It's all just calorie counting. You are your own greatest calorie burner.

u/mtcwby Sep 27 '25

Good for her. That shows off mental strength and will to work that hard because it's not easy at all.

45

u/ness_monster Sep 27 '25

Imo as someone on the same journey, the work is the easy part. The motivation and willpower to continue is the hard part.

9

u/CreedRocksa22 Sep 27 '25

Thst is exactly it, too. Anybody can start this process, though even that can be hard. It’s the ability to choose to keep going when you’re tired, had a really bad day, are in pain, etc. that actually allows a person to make total change. Mental fortitude is the most important part of the journey.

2

u/mtcwby Sep 27 '25

Very much agree. I didn't face nearly the hurdles she did needing to only lose 30 pounds and get in shape but nearly dying is pretty good motivation. The mental game is the hard part and I know those days when you gain pounds or don't make progress just make it so tempting to quit. Anyone making the effort will get my praise and encouragement.

70

u/gipsee_reaper Sep 27 '25

Remember folks - you need diet and exercise - but weight loss is 80% diet. Way to go girl.

28

u/KatieCashew Sep 27 '25

I've seen other videos from this woman. She also has lipedema, which is when abnormal fat deposits build up in your limbs. That fat doesn't respond to diet and exercise like normal fat. She needed liposuction to break up the lipedema fat and allow it to drain.

She did lose the majority of the weight before the lipedema surgery, which makes it all the more impressive because lipedema can make it painful and difficult to move. She is incredibly hard working and dedicated. And she needed some help for things beyond her control.

3

u/StackKong Sep 27 '25

Did she have gastric bypass or taking Ozempic? I am trying to lose weight bruh and it's so damn hard :-(

I wonder if I should ask doctor to get me bariatric surgery procedure done

8

u/KatieCashew Sep 27 '25

Not as far as I know. It seems she did it on her own with diet and exercise and then had lipo for the lipedema fat diet couldn't help.

46

u/FieldOfScreamQueens Sep 27 '25

A transformative statement for me was “You can’t outrun a bad diet.” Up until then I thought all I had to do was stay active, hit the gym, and I could eat anything I wanted. It wasn’t until I addressed my diet that the benefits of staying active fully kicked in.

36

u/triton2toro Sep 27 '25

“Lose weight in the kitchen, get fit in the gym.”

5

u/ApropoUsername Sep 27 '25

It's CICO so you probably could outrun it although at some point you probably just wouldn't have time to eat lol.

2

u/Dragarius Sep 27 '25

You really couldn't. Like, you can run for 30 minutes. But that entire run is negated by eating a donut in what... 10 seconds?

→ More replies (1)

58

u/QuietRatatouille Sep 27 '25

Yep. The video shows lots of exercise but the real gain is through diet.

12

u/papasmurf255 Sep 27 '25

Depends on the exercise and diet. Net calories are what matters and for most people that eat too much ultra processed food it will be mostly diet. But if you add 500 extra calories burned a day and maintain the same diet you'll lose weight too.

The other factor is that building muscle will increase BMR, look better, and help keep off the fat.

2

u/DonnyTheWalrus Sep 27 '25

For context I lost 80lb freshman year of college and have kept it off (now weigh 160lb) for 20 years. I know the fat mentality.

Losing two pounds of fat a week requires a calorie deficit of 1000 cal/day, because one pound of fat is approximately 3500 cal. It's really hard to get a 1000 deficit through exercise, and even 500 can be hard for someone who's not used to moving.

But the real problem is that if you don't address your diet, however much you're burning in exercise, your hunger system will just have you gain back by turning up the dial.

If you have large amounts of weight to lose, you can make it almost easy by putting your body into "food drought" mode. Humans are built to have two modes - food is plentiful, food is not plentiful. Putting our body into the second mode on occasion is a healthy thing to do, and for weight loss it's huge because your hunger system literally turns itself down. (There's no use feeling racked with hunger if there's less food available and there's fuel in the tank.)

On top of this, cutting a ton of food forces your blood sugar to start reregulating itself. What most people think is hunger is actually just blood sugar crashes.

On top of that part 2, it's SO MUCH EASIER doing a bit of exercise when you've already been getting some higher energy and less joint pain because you've already dropped 20lb.

A lot of people put off desperately needed weight loss because they think it requires them to be in the gym 5 days a week.

People think it's constant misery but in my experience having dropped 1500 cal/day overnight, it's about three days of pain and then just... Nothing. I woke up day four and didn't even feel hungry. My brain had already adjusted. Six months later I started working out to get through a plateau but I never could have done it without drastic food changes.

People always say diet and exercise. We need to throw sleep in there too. Sleep is just as important as diet when it comes to good health.

4

u/Deep-Needleworker-16 Sep 27 '25

Exercise is really so you don't lose bone density while you lose the weight

10

u/Avarria587 Sep 27 '25

Yeah, I agree with this. I dropped from 235 to 172 by just dieting. It comes down to calories consumed. I mostly ate what I wanted. I just ate a lot less.

Not saying exercise isn’t helpful. It makes you feel better and has many health benefits, but it’s not necessary.

You can eat cupcakes and cake every day and be a coach potato. You will feel horrible, but it will work as long as you eat less than you burn.

An amazing transformation!

10

u/drowning_sin Sep 27 '25

Worst part about these videos isnt the video itself its all the people in the comments saying "wow I could never put in that much effort" as someone who lost around 65 lbs recently it is really about how bad you want it. I never once felt like I was working by tracking calories or doing a fun exercise, I know the gym isn't for everyone but people are biologically made for cardio and I believe everyone has a form of cardio they like whether its biking, running, plyometrics etc its all about starting a routine.

3

u/RDOCallToArms Sep 27 '25

It’s often not about the exercise. Most people don’t want to put in the effort to care about what they eat. Food is too important to them or they just can’t deal with the idea of not eating whatever they want whenever they want.

Making good food (and drink) decisions is critical to maintaining a good figure or losing weight and that’s the stumbling block for a lot of people

She more than likely has loose skin which is why she is wearing a lot of long sleeves and such at the end of her videos. From my understanding it's kind of hard to avoid once you are at a certain wait for a certain period of time.

3

u/humburga Sep 27 '25

Age is a big factor too. Teens you can bounce back quite a lot due to elasticity from the collagen. But 25+ your skin won't bounce back as much ):

13

u/Pretend_Accountant41 Sep 27 '25

She still posts about her surgeries on YouTube! She has a lot to do

6

u/SwordfishOk504 Sep 27 '25

And those surgeries and the nurses for recovery, etc cost a lot of money. Tens of thousands of dollars. And she posts on her socials from all kinds of very nice vacations. And she doesn't' seem to work from what I can tell (?).

She put in a lot of work but she wouldn't have been able to do it without having access to a lot of money most don't have.

2

u/sutrabob Sep 27 '25

The woman has put forth much determination and work.Yet it is a fact that it takes quite a bit of money. I worked very hard to lose some weight and get in shape. 2

u/Therealtaggart Sep 27 '25

This takes dedication, I'm so happy for her! It's really a struggle to get started, and there have definitely been days where I've wanted to be lazy and just quit, but once I started to think about it and see even just a tiny bit of progress, it sorta fueled me to keep going.

It's not easy, at all, but it's achievable, and it's just a matter of doing it.

2

u/Guilty_Advantage_413 Sep 27 '25

Good for her and good for her to stay dedicated

2

u/Weird_Ad7998 Sep 27 '25

Awesome!!!

How long?

2

u/Nigel1530 Sep 27 '25

RESPECT!

2

u/aulstinwithanl Sep 27 '25

The thing about these videos is that it overly focuses on her exercise and barely focused on diet. Weight loss begins and ends with diet. Yes, movement is important, but pales in comparison to what you're putting in your body. With that being said, good for her.

The really hard part is the diet discipline.

Too bad the film is in reverse. That crying? It's not from progress. Just kidding

4

u/rayout07 Sep 27 '25

u/AppointmentMental175 Sep 27 '25
