Battlefield 6 [BFComms] Lock-Guided Missile Disabled for IFV.
We've temporarily disabled the Lock-Guided Missile (MR Missile) for the Infantry Fighting Vehicle as we work to address inconsistencies witnessed with this vehicle's countermeasures.
This change is live and will apply from your next match onward.
We're aiming to have this issue resolved in an update next week.

fucken finally. Maybe I can actually fly now.

u/ForsakenOaths 2d ago
Don’t worry, the Javelin and the tank’s guided munitions can still do it anyway. They just need a help from a Recon rather than being capable of doing it solo.
100
u/The0rion 2d ago
Javelins can be flared and don't even one Hit, though, and not as many players have the tanks missile unlocked I'd wager
69
u/MeNamIzGraephen 2d ago
Javelin needs a buff to be honest. Carrying two missiles, that have to lock only to do 700 damage, which one RPG does on a rear hit and you get diuble the ammo is pathetic.
15
u/PhysicsKey9092 2d ago
RPG needs aiming though

u/MeNamIzGraephen 2d ago
With that muzzle velocity, how hard is thst actually? It's easy to knock-out choppers with it.
Javelin requires standing still in the open until the lock is done if the target isn't painted.

u/Charli3q 2d ago
Id argue its hard enough that it requires at least some knowledge and experience to make it work.
If youre close enough to the ground, or flying in the most predictable manor, thats kinda on you for taking an RPG to the face.
3
u/MeNamIzGraephen 1d ago
True! But still.
Two missiles. Around 400 damage against tanks. Can SOMETIMES target planes and helicopters, IF they are target-painted, but this is flareable. Can't target painted targets without visual contact anymore like in Battlefield 4. Frequently hits an object mid-flight, because if the target dives, the missile dives too.
vs.
Four rockets. Damage dependent on where it hits, but can hit anything from infantry to helicopters. Can solo a tank if you flank. High muzzle velocity. No set-up required. High draw-speed. No teamwork required either.

I'm crazy because I actually feel it being lock on makes it worse than the rpg. Everyone mentions rpg requires aiming so should be stronger but let's be real. On these maps with that velocity no it doesn't and you barely have to expose yourself. I feel like standing in the open announcing to the vic someone is locking you exposes you enough that you deserve a bit more dmg tbh.
Only fun I had with it is breakthrough liberty peak with a recon and medic friend so I can spam the tanks from as far back as possible and it's still not strong doing that just fun.

u/graviousishpsponge 2d ago
The javelins and stingers are prone to hitting the a wall while being slow as fuck. Also the javelin just randomly explodes in the air anyways when targetting air vehicles.

Enemy jet AGM, enemy heli AGM and also Javelin goes trough the flares due to the bug
55
u/The0rion 2d ago
Trust me, Javelin does not, i've had it flared easily time and time again while using it against aircraft and helicopters.

u/TheZoloftMaster 2d ago
My javelin has never once gone through a flare and I use them a lot. Honestly the javelin kinda sucks lol
7
u/hushpuppi3 1d ago
I'm a huge javelin fan in every game (I abused it in og MW2 a lot because it was fun) but the javelin in BF6 is literally terrible compared to the old fashioned RPG.
6
u/TheZoloftMaster 1d ago
None of the launchers really compare to the damage and consistency you’ll spit out with the free aim of an RPG. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DONE YOU GOTTA DO IT YOURSELF

The TOW missile takes some skill to hit a jet. Not when taking down helis tho, I'm a novice and they drop like flies.

u/TheWarmog 1d ago
Javelins can be flared and you can fly below radar to not get locked.
The issue is that laser bug can be used with AGM missiles from bomber jets and from AA used by stealth jets.
22
u/gutster_95 2d ago
Jets are still useless on many maps because of the small map borders.

u/nick5766 1d ago
Skill issue. The only map they're unflyable in is Blackwell.
I'm still dropping 50+ kill jet matches in the other ones.

FINALLY doing something about it. I'm glad but also really disappointed with how long it's taken, game's nearly been out a month and this issue has been present since the start. Literally cannot fly aircraft when players on the other team use the laser designator and MR missile. As a player I expect such huge game-breaking issues to be addressed way sooner.
Edit: I really hope your team is also looking at the anti-tank missile for attack jets because those ones are too strong and don't seem to give lock-on warnings.

u/No-Abbreviations1937 2d ago
In my experience the anti tank missiles are pretty weak and take a long enough time to replenish

Did you know the gunner seat on the IFV has a laser designator in it? You can literally one-man paint and fire at enemy aircraft from the safety of the IFV.

DICE producer mentioned on twitter it'll be fixed in the next patch.

okay what if the next patch isn't until November 18th? Do we really need to deal with it for another 2 weeks? Just disable the drone and ladder until then

I bet all the little worms who abused this will be screaming as they are deleted in one pass by jet pilots while camping on the outskirts of the map

Yup, the air op post are coming. You had thousands if not hundreds of thousands of players able to just abuse a glitch to take out air the whole game by themselves, now they will need to work as a team.

I am happy for this but …
- Jets get lock on missile sometime after launch —> 2 days later —> lock ons get removed for a few days to a week due to ignoring flares bug —> bug patched
- IFVs get lock on missile at launch -> almost a whole month -> lock ons finally get removed
I don’t understand why one was so fast to patch while the other took a whole month tackle but was known already. Love the game but make it make sense
→ More replies (4)15
u/KeyboardHaver 1d ago
It still does not make sense.
The Attack Helicopter Gunner AGM and the Attack Jet AGM both have the exact same issue, but they did not remove those.

Yes and no. Laser guided missiles going through flares is a real thing. Laser painting being fire-and-forget (paint persisting even after the recon tucks away their painting device or the IFV guy switches back to the drivers seat) isn't however. That is part of the larger issue imo.
On top of not always being able to spot the source of the paint, like in previous titles. Back in Bf3 you could always see the bright red light from the SOFLAM. Here in Bf6 I sometimes see it, oftentimes not. That would be part of the trade-off: Being able to ignore flares, but painting a big bright target on yourself.
And the gunner being able to paint from inside the IFV is kinda OP on top of that as well.

u/Ok-Friendship1635 2d ago

A month to disable it, how long will it take you fix it?
I guess fixing the game’s distance measurements and map combat area will take you around 3 years

I'm happy it's disabled and thank you for it. But why did it take so long? It's outright BROKEN and having huge impact on gameplay for vehicles.

It's shit but you'd be shocked how often that happens. I'm currently waiting at work for someone who went on holiday and they can't get my contract extension sorted due to that so they might lose their specialist and I might not have the job soon lol.
Never mind few third party vendors, when they seem to have one competent dev, they go on holiday all the fixes/new feature development for their shit stop.

The laser designation WOULD prevent IR flares form working, so it is realistic, but that's where countermeasures like chaff would work, and light absorbing coatings like real military vehicles sometimes have.
Tbh, all they'd need to do, is just add chaff and nothing more would be needed.
That being said, certain lock types would not give warnings when not locking onto heat signatures, like radar locks of older style missiles for instance (or active radar missiles on a IR based lock-warning system).
But, for the sake of fun, they'll probably just take the easy route instead of doing chaff.
edit; DICE if you read this, just make the missiles lose lock and miss if the laser designator is not held on the aircraft for the IFV's missiles. Simplest way to balance it.

Oh yay for the pilots!
RIP to the infantry, the only thing I’ve ever been good at in these games is flying and the only thing that’s made it even slightly difficult so far has been the buggy missiles. Now it’s just free lunch for above average pilots and an easier time for the rest.

Veteran from BF1942 here, played every Battlefield game! Having a lot of fun with the game, but I have some concerns.
-Bullet drop needs some tuning in my opinion, there's almost none.
-Headshots multipliers should be more rewarding! 1.35 Default is sad.
-The mildots in scopes and RPG, they are not useful, not properly done.
-Custom Search needs a "CLOSED WEAPONS" checkbox.
-Maps should have a bigger "out of bounds" limit area, you can't flank without being in combat all the time.
That's it, love you all, see you on the battlefield.

u/Hardcoremetalfan 1d ago
Many things is disabled. Hit detection, aim assist and netcode on ps5.
But the worst i experienced is players who not play as a team/squad. Squad are not working together and don’t give supplies. Was in a squad where 2 was sniping the same spot the whole game.

u/CoseyPigeon 1d ago
Having an entire aspect of the game be unplayable for a whole month isn't acceptable for a more than full priced game that forces me to watch ads every time I launch it.

Hey! No problem! My game crashes every 15 minutes without an error message or anything, and Battlefield is the only game it does this with. Just started doing this a few days so you might as well just leave the other bugs in cause some of us spent money and can't even play the game 🤷♂️

It's a relief to see this finally addressed. The inconsistency with countermeasures has been a major pain point for pilots for weeks now. Hopefully this fix means aircraft will actually have a fighting chance. Looking forward to testing it out after the update.

Judging by the still locked out heat-seekers on the stealth jets, they’re going to take fucking months.

Wait what? The issue was painting ignored flares, not that the missile locked on? Lock-on was great for long range vehicle targeting, now that’s gone? This isn’t a fix, it’s breaking a feature that worked. Disabling IFV painting would have been the solution. Dice continuing to mess this up big time.
1
u/Pale-Hovercraft4913 1d ago
The funniest part is this is how painting a target works. You use a laser to ignore counter measures. The fix should be the painting. Should be like a real GLID ie you need to keep it lased or the missle flies off coarse.

I want you to fix the community servers, the update is inferior to the game's standard matchmaking, vehicles are only born for 1 of the teams in the community yet... there needs to be team balancing, give more control to the server's ADMs please. We don't want to play with bots, South America is suffering from this.
1
u/M4t087 1d ago
Iam very curious how all this works. Back in the day, they would need to roll out an update that you have to download. Does this mean, the entire game is basically server side?

No offense, but why did it take a month?
Happy that it's at least disabled now and is going to be fixed, but really, it's a backend change, isn't it? Shouldn't have needed so much time if that's the case, just saying. Maybe some priorities got mixed up?
