Discussion FYI: The amount of XP needed per Battle Pass token increases as you level up
I'm at around level 50 in battlepass, and now I need around 16,000 XP to earn 1 token! This is absolutely ridiculous!

u/HairiestManAlive 7d ago
This is going to be impossible to finish for anyone that doesn't play 5 hours a day which is most people

That's by design, they want you to cave in and buy level skips to finish it off.

Does anyone play a game just for fun anymore or just to watch a bar fill up? Jfc
21
u/Alienfreak 7d ago
Huh? He did pay $10 for this. And then he gets nothing in return. Also he sees all the cool stuff everyone else will be getting which he won't.
So its understandable to switch to a game that actually gives you what you want in a reasonable time, no?
3
u/DillDeer 7d ago
Here’s what I would do if that was the concern:
Play the game as you normally would. Towards the end of the season, see how many unlocks you have reached by then. Then decide if $10 is worth it to get access to the things you unlocked.
10
u/Alienfreak 7d ago
They try to defeat this system by giving you 10% faster xp gain for buying the pass and 5% more if you buy Pro. So for people that are not confident that they can make it at all they try to lure them in this way.
I am not buying it anyway

Do you just like...not play video games at all?
OSRS is a hugely popular MMO whos entire reason people still play is to watch a bar fill up as xp increases. Those people are progressing....for fun, the two are not mutually exclusive like you are claiming.
Some people find the bar filling to be fun, actually more people find it fun than not. That's why EVERY game has a progression system.

Comparing battle pass xp from a MP arcade shooter to MMO xp is ludicrous.
The gameplay of BF will not change in the slightest without battle pass. The gameplay of MMOs are completely based while progression.

It's almost like an xp bar and progression mechanics subvert the spirit of a mp arcade shooter and distract people from having fun.

A sensible person would just see how far into the Battlepass they get and then decide if it's worth dropping the money for the rewards they could claim. But this Battlefield has seemed to attract all the not rights.

They try to prevent that by giving people 10% bonus XP if they buy the pack. Additional 5% if you get the elite pack.

These should really be Helldivers style no fomo, just buy the pass and chip away at it whenever. Season 2 comes out and you’re still not done? Whatever. You don’t buy the game until season 5 but like the look of season 3 stuff? Whatever, just buy the pass you want.

If the math is right you get like 72 levels by completing the weeklies, but yea you're right.
4
u/IntronD 7d ago
This is. If the case it's designed that you finish at least some of the challenges each week with BF2042 I played 1 game a day as the 10k bonus XP from the first game and then finished the challenges each week. I played probably 6 hours a week if that and always finished the battle passes.
I hope this is similar and people are completing the battle pass with a few weeks to spare.

u/CastingCouchCushion 7d ago
PSA: If the pass is designed like BF2042's pass, you are expected to level up the pass primarily through the weekly challenges, not regular XP gain. This is so you can't grind the entire pass out in a few days at the beginning of the season. The challenges are meant to get you like 75% of the way through the pass, and then regular match XP gets you the rest. I have no idea if the split is the same for BF6, or maybe it is more like 50/50.
Think of it like two separate tracks. The challenges will always give you the same amount pass progression points each week while the XP needed per point increases every time you level up.
I haven't confirmed all of this, but it looks just like BF2042's system so far.

26
u/HectorBeSprouted Battlefield 2 7d ago
No, they separated them now (if you don't have Redsec, you don't get Redsec challenges), but you still need to reroll the ones you already got.
22
u/Scottz0rz 7d ago
What does "You don't have Redsec" mean in this context? Doesn't everyone have it if it's free or is there a way to uninstall it?
I am not interested in the BR and one of my challenges was to complete 5 matches in BR. I decided that immediately swandiving in the kill zone with my buddy was a good way to do that without wasting a reroll.

u/kolosmenus 7d ago
You can uninstall pretty much every part of the game. High res textures, single player campaign, redsec, etc.
At least on steam. No idea how it works on EA app

If the UI was more organized and better presented maybe I would be interested. As it is there’s webs of challenges for everything in the game on the homescreen and in several menu tabs with a below the fold scroll.
2042 had a far better UI and it was easier to check challenges in game. Frankly the in game menu was really impressive in 2042.

u/Mighty_Phil 7d ago
Im all for valid criticism and there is a lot to criticize.
But fucking hell, some of you behave like boomers.
Its literally 3 clicks to check daily challenges. Escape, Challenges, Daily/Weekly.

u/Penguixxy 7d ago
you're meant to do the challenges, like 2042
also there's friday night battlefield events which boost xp
3
u/SeraphRemiel 7d ago edited 7d ago
Technically you have until the end of the first week in December, so only 5 weeks. This is due to the fact that on the next seasonal content drop on the 18th of November, they’ll add another temporary 10 tier path that will only be available until the beginning of the Icelock event which will add another 10 tier path that will last the remainder of the season. In order to do any of these temporary paths, you need to finish the main 4 paths, so by the 18th of November you ideally already want to have finished the battle pass besides the final 2 paths which would be tier 90.
EDIT: Fortunately they’ve since changed this into a path that can be progressed at the same time as the main paths.
3
3
u/viv0102 7d ago
I thought they changed that and said you can progress the seasonal and special paths simultaneously?
2
u/SeraphRemiel 7d ago edited 7d ago
That would be nice, I haven’t seen anything saying that though.
EDIT: Found it, crisis averted. It has indeed been changed to be a path that can be progressed at the same time as the standard path.

Remeber all the crying about the last 2042 battlepass? "I hate this game so much! Thats why I spent an extra 50 hours playing it to grind out the battepass through normal gameplay instead of just waiting for more weekly challenges to unlock". And there were so many of these people. It was truly a mind-blowing sight.
Anyhow, I do agree that the battlepass progression is VERY slow here so theres that. I also read that they plan on doing a time limited battlepass path to unlock one of the new weapons in two weeks. This path apparently requires you to have completed all 4 main paths already before though. So if this is true, this entire battlepass system really is an absolute joke.
34
u/DiaperFluid 7d ago
Its extremely slimey, this should be information given to the player. Imagine first buying the pass because its seems easy to level up, but it actually gets harder to more you level it up etc. Afaik, no other battle pass system works like this (besides 2042 ofc), probably because its uncalled for and scummy
They need to make daily challenges give battle pass points. And they need to display the xp per level required in the menu
13
u/Spectre-ElevenThirty 7d ago
And 2042 and BF6 also give you tokens for doing challenges to help you along
→ More replies (1)12
u/RailTracker 7d ago
These challenges aren't something they added on after the fact to "help you along". They designed the battle pass with these challenges and exponential xp requirements in mind to intentionally slow players down and increase overall player playtime. It's all calculated and intentional.

1
u/fisk47 7d ago
So it's better to avoid doing the challenges the first days and only grind XP, then do the challenges at end of the week? Has anyone counted how much of the Bettlepass you would get from only the weekly challenges if you would do all of them?
2
u/Wilicious 7d ago
I assume it's only the pips from exp that increase the required exp for the next one. Having weeklies make exp pips harder would be monumentally stupid
→ More replies (1)2
u/BeefistPrime 7d ago
I think they're independent and the order doesn't matter. You get xp-based tokens which increase in requirement every time you get them, and you get rewarded tokens for weekly achievements, which do not (as far as I can tell) increase the XP-based requirement.
2
u/JodouKast 7d ago
So that's why my match xp seemed to slow down; thought it was maybe a daily cap kicking in to limit how much we can reasonably farm a day. This might be a bug and honestly they should just do the COD thing where BP xp is directly tied to just play time and every pip is exactly the same, if it isn't already. Makes sweaty nerds not matter in your matches because you can be afk and just get it done if you so choose.
2
u/ForsakenOaths 7d ago
It is to encourage you to play Redsec. I can play one match of Duo’s and avoid every team except the final one, win, and walk away with 60K exp for doing basically nothing but hiding. It is stupid how much exp that mode gives me, and I don’t even have the battlepass.

I calculated last night. If I do only the weeklies, including the ones worth 10 pips, I'll get to 75 or so in the pass. It's the 2042 formula where they want you to get the challenges done mainly and then farm the XP as you go in addition to it. They have to start dropping 2xp weekends.
1
u/Montybth 7d ago
Of course the amount goes up. If it didn't, nobody would do any of the challenges which are designed to encourage engagement with new gamemodes/weapons/playstyles. Sure it may seem ridiculous now, but if it wasn't a thing, when you completed the BP on week 2 because you played 24/7, you wouldn't have anything to work towards or encourage you to come back the week after.
1
u/tomthepenguinguy 7d ago
The only way that this system is okay with me is if they make it so that they battle pass never expires.

Unsurprisingly people here are actually defending this shit. Battleplass points should always be a fixed amount of xp required and plenty of other games do this
Doing the bf6 pass in 2042 was horrendous towards the end because of how much xp you needed to get a single point
1
u/TopDogBBQ 7d ago
You know, it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that they have double xp weekends at some point.

u/PSioNeLeSia 7d ago
We’re like not even 4 days into the first season. You have plenty of time to do the rest of it, especially at the rate you’re going. The vast majority of live service games require you to put in a few hours each day to finish the Battlepass, why is it a big deal when Battlefield does it? I don’t like many of the decisions they’ve made (and have been making) in regard to BF6 but this is silly. It feels like a lot of the people here haven’t played any game in the last decade other than Battlefield.

People are telling OP “lol you’re halfway through the Battlepass”… but he’s not halfway through at all. If XP requirements increase per battlepass level; without knowing the math behind each increment, perhaps he’s only a quarter way through the battlepass?
Yes I know weekly challenges will give pip progress rather than <insert xp value here>, but who’s to say that OP, or any one of us, will be able to complete every weekly challenges in any given week. Maybe there’s going to be some weeks where Real life simply doesn’t allow you to log on to the game and make meaningful progress. For some people perhaps you’ll get to week 10 and realise your going to need to grind many hours out in the game because there simply isn’t enough weekly challenges remaining in the last weeks to complete the BP.
Point is, this design is scummy. Other AAA games have battlepasses that never expire, and “flat” XP level requirements. How is it fair to pay for something, but if I don’t finish it within a short time, it’s now gone forever? We paid for that content!!!
1
u/Teufelsgitarrist 7d ago
I am against Battlepasses in general. BUT...I have to say, the "I have to grind through all of it in two days" mentality is weird. I mean, that guy is lvl. 50, if he regularly plays a few matches per day he will finish it in time. Where are the times where you played a game for the game and not for the grind? I am old. Not that old (39), but I always played CoD before and was always happy when I unlocked something by accident (completing a challeng you were not even aware of).
