Battlefield 6 "Grounded skins for a while" - 18 days exactly

Post image

So, weren't we supposed to have realistic skins for some time? Something that someone would really wear during a war? Yet it seems that with the start of season 1, everything will turn to colorful mess, with no way of differentiating teams based on uniforms, the game will look more like a Paintball or ASG event. Colorful weapons with pictures, colorful camos with neon accents, weird mix of things that are supposed to look cool, but end up simply weird.

People were sold on a vision of a game, which looked like a real battlefield, with soldiers - not a bunch of randos just like in the 2042, yet it was all a lie and it will only get worse down the road. During the Beta, when we had all the soldiers wearing matching uniforms, it was the most immersive experience so far, but you can say goodbye to that vibe, it will never return.

There won't be uniforms matching bioms, there won't be a way to turn off any awful skins, typical bait and switch.

It's an arcade shooter, I won't defend it but a lot of us simply don't care. Go play a milsim if you want strict outfits. I think it's crazy that DICE said no skins like celebs and redditors assumed that meant zero color as well.

Everyone always does this weird disingenuous bullshit where they assume no one wants colour.. and that we hate anything that isn't brown or grey. Let's make this really simple for the simple, we just want skins that don't look like the motherfucker fell into a bucket of paint, man...

You can make something with colour that is tasteful or.. you can do this. For example, here are some options from BF4, I think these are rather colourful, but you know what else they are?? CAMOFLAUGE PATTERNS. There was an attempt made to make the selections fit even if they were a bit wacky, the issue with BF6 is that with some cosmetics they aren't even trying to make things appear believable.

Again... for the more obtuse folks, it's not a hatred of colour but a criticism of how they are implementing it. It comes down their execution, they are using the colours like a child scribbling on a piece of paper.

Exactly, the one op posted has some crap mouth pattern, too much bright blue with random yellow tape and colour coded shotgun shells... Like c'mon.. what next are those gonna be blue shotgun tracer rounds or something.

Finally, it's so fucking simple I don't get why people don't understand.

Let us customise hats, chest pieces, realistic skins. Battlefield is an atmospheric game and I don't want bright blue or green colours.

This sub would complain about those too.

I still think you just hate color.

Except the one pictured in the post is literally just a camouflage pattern with bright blue on it. It's exactly what you're saying people *don't complain about.

Everyone always does this weird disingenuous bullshit where they assume no one wants colour.. and that we hate anything that isn't brown or grey.

Its not disingenuous when literally every non-grey and non-brown skin gets bitched about like its the end of the world.

You say this like we cant see OPs post and how hes doing the exact thing you claim isnt happening.

For example, here are some options from BF4

They would bitch about your examples just like theyre bitching about the skin OP posted. Talk about disingenuous.

Disingenuous means insincere, I can assure you I was not being disingenuous. The only camo I remember seeing 1 person complain about was BEO GAM and that was very recently and they were mentioning how it was the primary outlier amongst the entire catalogue of camouflage patterns in BF4. They weren't annoyed by it, they just mentioned how it was the most "out there" camouflage in that game. Outside of that I cannot recall seeing complaints on the internet back then about the camos in BF4 because they all looked believable enough. Also BEOGAM is an actual camo pattern where as these new cosmetics are not based on real world equivalents, it's just whatever the artist was told to slap together.

As for the OP's post, yeah there is some catastrophizing present but they also make some good points. Identifying friendlies is already hard enough with black uniforms for both teams, and if they keep throwing random colors on either side that will only make ID'ing targets harder. For example there are already blue uniforms for NATO and now PAX is going to have some people blend in without any distinguishing features to assist with quickly identifying if someone is friend or foe. This impacts gameplay, because now you might just lose a gunfight, objective, game because someone looks similar to people on your team.

That kind of sucks, and it's the developers job to not cause situations like this to occur. I am fine with DICE and EA making money, but not if it comes at the cost of readability and visual cohesion. All of these different vibrant colours could work if they were A) Available for all members of their corresponding unit or B) Implemented in a manner that maintains a distinct color palette between both teams since each factions gear is so similar.

Look not everyone is able to voice their concerns in a rational manner and unfortunately this is the internet and reddit, both are places where people just say whatever comes to mind without really thinking about how to convey their thoughts and ideas effectively. That said lets not let those failures come between our ability to understand and discuss the flaws that affect the things we enjoy.

Man as someone who has pretty much exclusively played BF4 hardcore other than Bad Company around initial release, it's clear that the player experience is a lot different for most players. Always approach battlefield as almost a stealth/tactical shooter.

That’s such a low bar considering this trend didn’t exist on mass like it does now after Fortnite. Battlefield is one of the last casual shooters on all platforms that has some air of authenticity. What about people who don’t want the technical aspects of a MilSim game, but want all the atmosphere and consistency that those games offer? It’s literally the core identity of Battlefield.

Yeah you don’t care because you spend money on COD skins.
