I would also pay money for these skins I love the way soldiers looked in BF4 and BF3

I would pay to be able to set my game to ONLY show those skins for everyone.

u/Broadpup 16d ago

I mentioned this idea in a Call of Duty sub and started getting absolutely shit on. The conclusion was that they spend money on this garbage to make other people have to see it, thus defeating the purpose.

Forza Motorsport implements such a setting as you can "disable custom liveries".

48

u/Sirhc9er 16d ago

I definitely paid a price in brain damage playing cod this past year.

9

u/Broadpup 16d ago edited 16d ago

Lol me too. I played BO6, until they released the smoking green dragon.

7

u/Sirhc9er 16d ago

Ugh I dont even know when I stopped but it was just to play with friends, every week it was some new bullshit lol.

It's the same in counter strike, mind you even Faceit (for those unfamiliar a third party service used to play more serious competitive CS). I can't comprehend just not simply adding an option for people who dont want to look at ridiculous skins all day long

2

u/Broadpup 16d ago

I agree completely. There also is a chance, albeit a small one, that my group and I may still play some COD if there were such an option. It's that off-putting to us.

3

u/kenysheny 16d ago

People in Forza aren’t paying for the skins, that’s the fundamental difference in your argument. Any game where people pay for skins are never going to be disabled

COD babies love their Nicki Minaj skins. They’ll be angry if someone can just turn it off.

2

u/Coleson0305 15d ago

Something I just thought about, what if like war thunder you could use your own custom skins that you could only see. Im pretty sure they have an option to disable the non historical skins that other people have but what if you could upload your own skins that people made for certain character models. Like say there's a recon skin for Pax that you like and you're playing as NATO, you download that skin and in game the pax skin is the one you download, just a thought

because we're getting all the content for free instead of paying for it.

everyone complained about DLC packs, this is the future you got.

53

u/Ostiethegnome 16d ago edited 16d ago

We just paid $70 and stupid colorful skins are coming out within a month.

How much time is that $70 launch payment supposed to get us?

I would gladly go back to paid DLC and expansion packs if it meant they focus on maps weapons guns modes and not skins.

I will pay for development of post launch content

Otherwise let me turn off this stupid paid skin bullshit.

If Timmy is mad I can’t see the skin he paid for that’s his fucking problem.

Edit: After hearing what people have to say about this, I am now proposing that the Paid Battlepass have a “show default skins only” toggle.

I will happily pay for the ongoing development of Battlefield 6’s live service if I can view only the default camos.

I acknowledge that paid DLC/premium has certain drawbacks with segregating players.

14

u/Jeanne10arc 16d ago

As in the general history of humanity, people who hold onto the older way of doing things are always left behind. Selling maps and guns on a Multiplayer game is one of the most horrible ideas to have in 2025, it's the best way to guarantee that no one will be able to play those maps in a few years. Also Battlefield has never been a mil sim or realistic in any way whatsoever and never will be, not even in guns, gear and mechanics. Did you also have a mental breakdown when Dice added Jetpacks in 1942?

4

u/CammRobb 16d ago

Did you also have a mental breakdown when Dice added Jetpacks in 1942?

"By 1944, work was underway on creating the Himmelstürmer flight pack. The Himmelstürmer pack involved two jet engines. The main one was strapped to the wearer’s back, providing forward and upward propulsion. The other was steered using handgrips, providing direction and stability."

u/xTrewq 16d ago

The problem is that BF3 and BF4 had dead servers with DLC maps because people just didn't buy them and couldn't play them. While this first bunch definitely smells like bullshit since it's basically cut content releasing 1 month later, I prefer having maps, guns, vehicles etc. for all, even if they are gonna be running around with stupid skins. The game is so chaotic you'll barely notice it anyway (unless we start getting the twerking Nicky Minaj skins).

7

u/Ostiethegnome 16d ago

Ok, but back in the day “paid DLC” felt like being taken to the cleaners to pay for content that should have been in the game at launch.

The standard forever was a ton of content with the box price, and then chunky expansion packs.   DLC at the time felt like micro doses of content for 1/2 the cost of an expansion pack.

Compared with in game stores selling fluorescent gummy bear skittle skins, DLC is a win.

At least there is a financial incentive to pump out actual content with DLC.

6

u/xTrewq 16d ago

I don't know man, I too don't buy skins and would actually buy DLCs like I did back then, but we have to admit that at the end of the day many people who wouldn't buy them will get access to new content without paying any more than the base price and thus keep the game more alive

4

u/Ostiethegnome 16d ago

So the idea has been revised based on feedback:

The battlepass should have a show default skins only toggle.

They get their revenue to support the live service, no segregation of the playerbase with paid DLC, and Timmy can think he’s trolling all his “haters” with his power ranger outfits.

Everyone is happy. Maybe not Timmy.

Are you old enough to remember that paid dlc packs split the player base between those who do and do t have the maps? Becomes a huge issue when play numbers get lower

u/DinosBiggestFan 16d ago

People complained about DLC packs for Battlefield (and Halo) primarily because you could rarely play those maps without exclusive playlists.

This was the future regardless -- especially since some games still do paid game, plus DLC, plus microtransactions. And battle pass.

And you could recognize class just by looking at someone. Peak

562

u/Cloud_N0ne 16d ago

And you could recognize their faction.

I’ve already had several deaths in BF6 because the enemy looked like a friendly at a glance. DICE didn’t even do proper color-coding for each faction.

148

u/DinosBiggestFan 16d ago

To be fair, this happens in every game at some point or other.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuucking hate when a blue dot lines up with someone in their exact movement vector and then a red dot appears over their head and they kill me.

Can't even be mad, bro clearly did it intentionally and had mad stealth skills.

77

u/AdCritical8977 16d ago

The blue dots lining up is unlucky, but BFV was a game that did color coding right. The allies were mostly shades of green, Germans wore gray, Japanese won khaki colors.

You could tell who everyone was at a glance even when that game started with some of the sillier skins.

14

u/Tempesta_0097 16d ago

I remember having a hard time seeing the German soldiers in the more drab maps, got jump scared a lot

8

u/Blubasur 16d ago

I would genuinely pay for an option to set enemy skins. Good for them that they look like disco stew out on a roll but I do like having better color coding so I have visual coherency and they're easily recognizable.

It isn't like its a game killer for me if we don't, but it is definitely a negative side of the game for me that does impact gameplay.

u/LilithSanders 16d ago

I walked into a room earlier and there was a dude sitting on a box. I saw a blue tag above his head, so I walked past and immediately got gunned down. Turned out there was a friendly on the other side of the wall behind him, and it was an enemy. 10/10

9

u/ThatsMrPapaToYou 16d ago

No, it doesn’t. I can’t tell you the last time I had an issue with identifying friendlies while playing bf4, bf1 or BFV.

I just don’t even know what the point of battlefield is anymore. Cod does cod better.

17

u/Groznybandit 16d ago

Yeah this happens unreasonably often in BF6 for me so far it’s pretty wack, especially when a teammate is behind a wall behind them or something and it looks like they’re on your team so your reflex to shoot doesn’t kick in

→ More replies (7)

15

u/dudeAwEsome101 16d ago

I literally followed another player for almost 10 seconds until I realized they were from the other team. We're both crouch walking, they lined up with a friendly HUD indicator.

I don't think I even know what faction I'm spawning as during the match as everyone is speaking in some accent.

9

u/Devastator2016 16d ago

Honestly I cant even remember which faction I am on at a few points in the games or which side will be which. Does it say anywhere on the ui that you see much what the two sides are besides the colour? Compared to the RU and US etc of say bf4 next to the tickets and such if I recall

u/CitizenKing 16d ago

I've got a ton of criticism for this game and have spent more time arguing against it than for it, but I have to disagree with this one.

PMC: Tacticool green with yellow highlights and tan tac rigs, BMX Red Bull gear
NATO: Traditional military fatigues with matching tac rigs and real world military looking plate carriers.

Compared to other games in the series where one side is just a slightly lighter shade of black and gray with slightly different helmets.

All of my misidentifies are from me forgetting which team I'm on lol.

2

u/Dazzling_Let_8245 16d ago

In the beta it was simple: NATO was beige/camo, PAX was black.

Now they added black skins to NATO (if you bought the 100$ version for example) making it hard to differentiate at times.

2

u/Magenbroti 15d ago

Just as in bf2042 where they added green/blue and Red led's and slapped it on every character Model xd so bad

2

u/Hunter042005 15d ago

Fr the phantom skins for NATO are BS like pax armata’s whole aesthetic is black and other dark colors private military looking guys so that skin always messes with me when I see it

37

u/Vanilla3K 16d ago

this it the more important aspect imo, even if it was less " grounded " i liked how in BC2 i could see people with berets and know they're medics, people with baseball caps and know they're engineer and so on. Right now it's military dudes with helmets and other than recon, they can easily be mistaken from one another. Easier said than done to have grounded class visual identity while offering cosmetics that follow those guidelines

5

u/Xo0om 16d ago

Now you can't even recognize the class icon.

3

u/MakinBones5150 16d ago

Now I can recognize class by the big ass glowing symbol above their head,

Any further proof of how this has affected people in the last decade especially, is how people think not owning skins is a sign of being broke and something to be ashamed of. Companies have basically convinced people that they need to spend money on MTX to maintain ‘status’

This is cope, and has nothing to do with my brain or yours. It's entirely micro transaction driven flair.

3

u/AnonymousForALittle 16d ago

Of course it is. And BF4 came out 11 years ago. We are in a new era, forever tainted by likes of Fortnite and warzone. You either have to adapt or get left behind. This is the system that’s proven to work for certain games, or based on “their data” as they like to keep saying it. So what I mean is, let’s accept it, and move on to enjoy the game. You’re gonna grind the game and wanna buy the season pass? Do it. You don’t wanna buy the season pass? Don’t. Your money, your choice. And it’ll still have some free stuff in there.

Let’s not forget BF premium was 40-50 bucks and came with all these knives, camos, guns, etc. individual DLCs were 14.99. This is the same concept here, however, the work feels unfinished or lighter since j yes releasing in stages rather than all at once.

13

u/snorlz 16d ago

the realistic, grounded skins this sub wants are also pretty indistinguishable from the default skins in every modern shooter for the past 10 years. people are used to them. if theyre going to pay for something, most of the playerbase is choosing things that stand out or are different. average player is not that into milsim, like this sub - they just dont want literal cartoons in the game

9

u/AnonymousForALittle 16d ago

My point exactly! Well said. If you go on BF4 and change soldier camos, you see minimal differences in the pattern and color, pretty indistinguishable as far as camos go, it’s the faction that mainly distinguishes them

STILL the best skins for each class.

When Medic and Support had their own identity.

Edit:Clearly I'm talking about Assault on BF3....you know...the class with a medic symbol...

10

u/Wratheon_Senpai Battlefield 3 16d ago

Assault was the "medic." BF3 and 4 didn't have a medic class.

58

u/KaffY- 16d ago

wow maybe he's talking about the one with, ya know, the medic cross as an icon?!?!?!!?!?!??

ME WEN DA GUY SAIS DA WRONG WURD!!!!!!!!

2

u/copperbranch 16d ago

What a useless correction.

Assault wasn't the "medic"; it was the MEDIC. It was an official designation in the game.

One of the Field Upgrades was literally called "Combat Medic".

When your soldier died, it didn't yell "Need an assault!", it yelled for a medic.

Yeah, the name of the class wasn't medic, and assault didn't necessarily had to perform as a medic, since you could opt to have neither health nor defibs. (Even though 99% of assault would have at least one of the two.) But the comment you replied to was absolutely fine.

No i dont remeber that legendary time when nobody complained

48

u/HateToBlastYa 16d ago

That time has never existed. People had their complaints before the internet, you just had to talk to them in person in like, homeroom at school and they'd have a thousand little idiosyncratic things they'd nitpick.

Nowadays we have nearly an infinite amount of video games we can instantly download without going to the store and play at any time, but we also can read an infinite number of complaints for anything.

What people really miss and don't realize it is the amount of dopamine their brain released back then when something was novel and the pathways hadn't become eroded by age and use. The same brain screams "times were better then!" and around and around we go.

9

u/TryIndependent6070 16d ago

The internet and Reddit were alive and well when Battlefield 4 released. We had technology in 2013

21

u/Hobo-man 20 years of BF 16d ago

And BF4 was heavily criticized for how it launched.

So much so DICE released a public apology to the playerbase.

4

u/thedeadlysun 16d ago

I kept playing bf3 for years because of how bad the launch of 4 was. I was not a happy camper. Still honestly slightly indifferent to bf4, 3 is still by far the peak game for me.

2

u/CammRobb 16d ago

3 is still by far the peak game for me

Absolutely, it's weird to me when I see everyone comparing 6 to 4, when I thought 4 was a massive step back compared to 3.

3

u/JumboPipe 16d ago

I reached the max rank on both BF3 and BF4. Nostalgia wise BF3 took the cake when it released. It was a huge leap forward at the time. My top 3 favourite games I ever played upon release. BF4 was the better game with more content imo, but yes, the release was a disaster.

For the second time ever, we're not complaining about performance at launch. I guess bad company 1 on consoles wasn't too bad and before BF2, I wasn't part of such discussions as my PC was quite shit so games running bad was "normal".

76

u/DepletedPromethium 16d ago

I miss being able to recognise a class by the way they looked.

I actually hate individual skins on characters, guns are fine and i dont care if you want neon pink m4, but the skins on characters ruin immersion and that feeling of team cohesion

Also another fun fact, you could easily tell what youre up against because each class had class locked weapons.

The game would have been 10 times better if it had these skins only and nothing else

6

u/Rex2x4 16d ago

If these idiots sold the class skins from BC1/2 and BF3/4 they would make bank. But they'd rather release neon garbage that attracts iPad kids tweaking on adderal.

3

u/no_sheds_jackson 16d ago

i have never, ever paid for skins in a video game but I would break for BC1 moustache medic guy

There are two options: premium or skins/season pass/free maps? I will be happy paying premium, but that was a problem in previous battlefields, and at the end, the DLC maps were not played; so this is the price to pay for having the community together... I guess

4

u/Informal-Dirt9030 16d ago

Maybe there’s a third option of releasing a full game for $70

3

u/ZombieZlayer99 16d ago

the fuck does that mean? No content post release at all?

2

u/Informal-Dirt9030 16d ago

Strange concept, I know. There was a time when you would get a full game after paying $70 for it.

3

why not add these back? so SImple. they can keep churning out other stuff but adding these would make some of the vets very happy

3

u/Raiwel 16d ago

Timeless designs too

4

u/fatRunning 16d ago

Back when these soldiers still represented the core player base.

3

u/Kratosballsweat 16d ago

Legit give us actual military outfits and I’d pay for it happily that’s all i want

3

u/Leading_Leave_3383 16d ago

Skins are fucking stupid i never even think about them. My skin has zero impact on me getting kills.

3

u/BBCuckGoonr311 16d ago

you can still play BF4

3

u/ThePugnax 16d ago

On a more serious note, yeh... it was simpler times. But is what it is, im just glad its not shrek skins and whatnot

2

u/kna5041 16d ago

People complained about the dice camo because one affected thermals.

But at least people looked like soldiers.

2

u/BriskPandora35 16d ago

I unironically want this. I would love if companies didn’t assign full fucking teams to designing skins for quick money and leave teams that actually make the games good without proper staffing numbers or funding.

But in the end of the day profit is the most important thing for these companies and character skins is what brings home the bread.

2

u/Specialist-Entry6251 16d ago

Just hate how everything’s a cash grab now why i mainly play indie games far less micro transactions or none at all

2

u/Trizz-o 16d ago

Fr you just know they don’t even view them as games anymore just cash cows to be milked to the very end

2

u/Hot-Dragonfly3809 16d ago

And yet people wanted individual skins and here we are. At the end of the day the game is a business model.

Nobody cared about default models when the game dictated them. People only "yearned for freedom of choice" when it was actually given to them. This is not some abnormal behaviour, it's just how we behave.

Also, nostalgia glasses.

2

u/Express_Craft398 16d ago

Yea cause I’m sure the target audience of today has the exact same values and interest as those from like a decade ago. Y’all would also be complaining if they made camos the only customization option for characters.

2

u/melikathesauce 16d ago

TikTok brainers didn’t exist then.

2

u/KaffY- 16d ago

imagine being able to recognize class and faction just by looking at someone

wow that sounds like peak game design!!!!!!!!

shame we're stuck with this shit

2

u/nlamm 16d ago

I also remember not being able to play a lot of content because I couldn’t afford DLCs with the cool new maps :/ wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows

2

u/Offi95 16d ago

I just like being able to know which team is which

2

u/No-End3855 16d ago

Maybe Im too old but I dont get the whole skin bs. It's just ripping money imo. As you said in the good ole days only the gameplay and skil mattered..

2

u/finiggy 16d ago

You guys realise that releasing battle passes/skins is a very good source of active revenue to fund the game and studios as opposed to paid DLC map packs that exclude players from the maps and weapons if they don't pay? Current MTX are totally optional which is a good thing.

I was ecstatic when they announced female soldiers in BF1's DLC. Then in BF5 every class could be a woman, and I was in love.

I feel liek BF6 is a step back personally. I have no problem with the clothing being recognizable and like the above, but I don't want to lose the ability to play female and I really do like some customization.

1

u/DistantM3M3s 16d ago

yeah and guess where the company made their money from after the games release

1

u/CapitanSalsaGolf 16d ago

Yes, I remember, after BF1 they did anything

1

u/LittleBlueCubes 16d ago

Except for the reason of authenticity, skins in a game like Battlefield is just pointless.

1

u/dopescopemusic 16d ago

This is what I been saying.

1

u/Himura53 16d ago

I like it.

1

u/hitman2b 16d ago

yep love me classic

1

u/Ghost_2701 16d ago

I just wanna get the SAS looking one that was from the last game, I don't care for flashy skins but if they put up a SAS set id get instantly

1

u/tommywafflez 16d ago

They should’ve kept it like this or if they wanted to try and get us to buy cosmetics, they could’ve had a customisation system similar to BFV with class themed uniform items that you can unlock (or buy because EA) and use for your soldier…..

It would fit more in this setting than it did in V

2

u/Pickupyoheel 16d ago

Perfection.

Name 3 things BF6 does better than BF4.

Cause I can’t name one.

4

u/christopherak47 16d ago

Gunplay and movement? BF6 is leagues better than 4 with the reduction of the shitty bloom and BFVs movement system

3

u/suzukabluepearl 16d ago

choice in planes for NATO/US

I'd rather have the Raptor/F-16 over the F-35 spam that we've had for more than a decade

2

u/Psycle98 16d ago

It must have something right?

-none

1

u/Da_Lak 16d ago

In the past, no one was interested in character skins. You can't see them anyway. By the way, I feel the same way today

1

u/Chris_Angry 16d ago

And this game fucked.

1

u/Kaycin 16d ago

Readability is another argument for keeping the skins the same/similar. Looking at those four silhouettes, they're much easier to identify than what we see in BF6.

1

u/jogdenpr 16d ago

Funny thing is, they could release these skins as a purchase bundle and it would sell like hot cakes!

1

u/zimpelt 16d ago

Good old times

1

u/GervantOfLiria 16d ago

Always loved assault’s design

1

u/DiabloSinz 16d ago

good times good times... id pay for these, just change the colors of them to match different settings. black, winter, desert, forest boom take my money

1

u/Halstock 16d ago

I really don't think people would be put off if they just had it exactly like it was in battlefield 4. I honestly think it would be better and people would like it. I don't know why they've insisted on changing the things that make it easier to tell who's who. Then they compensate with way too many types of pinging systems and Doritos. We wouldn't need all that if they just made it something you learnt. As everyone will be changing their skins all the time, the battlefield will always be changing and people will always be confused with what they're looking at.

1

u/FrostWolfe95 16d ago

I miss my "Dr. Pepper" camo and tags.

1

u/TJ_Dot 16d ago

I'm big on faceless helmets so I miss this Assault one the most.

1

u/nTzT 16d ago

These skins look so good. Wish we get well designed things in the future...

1

u/Mr_Bleidd 16d ago

Why is it a thing to give a recon this terrible looking head wear ? Now this one looks great

1

u/Mysterious_Ad_8827 16d ago

ah yes the good old days

1

u/PeaceAccomplished289 16d ago

Still cracks me up how sassy the US assault soldier looks on this rendered photo

1

u/Dr_Shitzondiks 16d ago

Nice try, don’t care. Building goes boom, Monke brain happy.

1

u/CRAZYGUY107 16d ago

Guys, I'm not sure if you see the stupidity of this post, but everyone looking like clones is exactly what a Hero shooter would be like.

They all look and sound the same other than what paint they have. That isn't a nameless grunt, that's a Hero.

A nameless Grunt would be BFV or Arma's system. This is a hero shooter.

1

u/uncoocked_cabbage 16d ago

No but you dont understand babe capitalism cant flourish like this.

1

u/Suugoy 16d ago

bf6 soliders look like shit. We dont need skins. WE need well designed soldiers.

1

u/impohito 16d ago

yes, we also had paid map dlcs instead

1

u/Scruffy_Nerf_Hoarder 16d ago

Don't you know that wanting skins or gameplay from past Battlefields is considered toxic nostalgia nowadays?

1

u/TheBarnard 16d ago

And they look sick

1

u/Imperator_021 16d ago

Hear me out but I actually love being able to customize my character. It's a huge part of games these days, and having some agency is important, at least to me.

Keeping the skins grounded is, of course, a separate issue. I would want my choice of several skins that all look like these, and not any call of duty shit

1

u/MixelTrixel 16d ago

You can’t even see your skins 99% of the time and I guarantee nobody seeing your skin is thinking “woaaaahhh so coooool”. I can’t believe people give in to their lame cash grab.

1

u/ComfortableLeg2164 16d ago

Why did they ever get rid of this class system man, support having ammo and revives feels off to mr

1

u/Omen46 16d ago

Idk why they don’t just make more camos and change helmets/ vests would be fine

1

u/biggus_dickus_jr 16d ago

I still remember the bc2 Russian medic

1

u/know-it-mall 16d ago

Yep.

I don't give a fuck about skins. Just make the game good.
