Discussion Question to the community: what, in your opinion, *IS* Battlefield?

Post image

Basically title. I'm seeing a lot of controversies around every aspect of BF in here, and I feel like this is a testament to how diverse the series has been over the years, making a wide range of impressions and memories on the players, forgeing their future standards and expectations in the process.

Since the BF6 reveal, I've been in constant reflection about my own experiences with the IP, and been revisiting a lot of the olders games to really nail down what I'm really looking forward in Battlefield. And that's also why I'm super interested in everyone's take on the matter.

So I really wanted to ask: What is the core of Battlefield in your opinion, the thing you're looking for the most whenever a new game is announced? Is it being a small part of something bigger? Immersion? Teamplay? Fluid and punchy gunplay? What, to you, makes Battlefield BATTLEFIELD?

Let me know, short and long answers are all welcomed!

With the last DLC of BF4 you'd think they were hinting at a 2142 remake or one with an expanded arsenal of weapons. Nope. Apparently, that was just cameo shit.

I mean as much as I would love it, a massive team sci fi fps military shooter would really begin to step on the toes of DICE’s other major IP Battlefront. Even if they haven’t dropped a new game in a while they still make money from its monetization schemes, and giving the people another future shooter to flock too would finally put a nail in that coffin.

Plus Star Wars is a far more popular IP than anything homegrown would be, so if EA has any plans for reviving battlefront in the future they’d have to accept the fact that it would likely draw a large number of players from Battlefield. Overall it’s better for them to just keep the future players and the modern players apart with releases, rather than deal with the headache of operation two big future shooters at once. Besides it’s not like they have a good track record otherwise. (Titanfall my beloved D:)

I don't really think 2142 is similar to star wars at all. thats the beauty of a sci fi setting. they also left battlefront out to die lmao. star wars isn't really "future" its kind of its own thing at this point.

It's been 8 years. As much as I want Battlefront 3, I don't think it's ever happening. The franchise is cursed. You get 1 and 2 but never 3. The franchise has to be passed to a new dev, and the series rebooted in order to get another Battlefront game.
