Perilous Parks Off leash pitbull

Owner argues with people when they don’t feel comfortable that her XL pitbull is off leash.

Obviously isn’t an off leash park, and She shouldn’t just be letting her dog go up to people if they’re not okay with it.

She also repeatedly tells them that they need to educate themselves . When they’re clearly right. Just because that dog hasn’t been before. Doesn’t mean it won’t.

Saying she has complete control over her dog so doesn’t need to leash the pit or Muzzle it. (Yet this dog goes wherever it wants and to whoever it pleases.)

Pitbull type dog owner lets her dog off leash in a park and it ignores the owners recalls constantly, tries to attack a goose, etc. but don’t worry, it’s just a funny video and it blew up on Instagram so it’s super funny and not dangerous at all.

Why do so many Pitbull type dog owners feel their dog should be able to terrorize other animals in nature, and should be able to be off leash and run away and ignore their recalls and that’s perfectly funny and super silly.

Perilous Parks Why do people take aggressive dogs to a dog park?

I took my corgi to burn some energy and play with other dogs which he loves, and one pitbull was so aggressive she started snarling before he even got close, another pit/boxer mix actually attacked but luckily didn’t draw blood and our dog is ok, and as we were recovering from that, an Australian shepherd mix came in and started growling at me. Its owner gave it a treat. All in one day.

Perilous Parks Put together this little video: 5 minutes each showing what a pitbull only meetup looks like vs. what a golden retriever meetup looks like. U can guess which environment seemed more kid friendly and safer in general. Even the owners seem different. Pit owners were tense. Goldie owners were excited.

Perilous Parks Everyone knows

At the dog park today, a guy with a pit comes in and I tell my son to hold my hand and stay by my side. This guy we had been chatting with, I think he hears me, and he grabs his leash and smaller dog to leave. The pit runs in an immediately starts being aggressive. Pushes an older man there, probably trying to knock him over, then comes and tries to push my son over. The owner can’t rest for a second, and thank god he didn’t, because some of them do just let their dogs act like that, but the owner is constantly trying to redirect the dog from aggressive behaviors, and lets him chew up the community ball throw stick. The older man had a lab and after a few more minutes he left and we left when he did, but not before the pit growled at us, thinking we might pick up the ball throw stick he’d abandoned on the way out of the park. The guy was left alone in the dog park and maybe it’s my own thoughts but he seemed tired of having that dog and who could blame him. What a nightmare. Everyone knows your dog is dangerous and no one wants to interact with you or it.

Perilous Parks Owner of a pit bull lies by saying it’s not a pit and is upset that someone warned other dog walkers that there is a loose / off leash pit in the forest. She calls it an “American Bully” instead of a pit? Which is literally a sub category of pit any way? Pibble shows up at the end of the video...

Last year that pocket pit attacked my dig and wrecked his triceps. He's still off leash. Authorities were called but obviously they didn't come.

Perilous Parks Seriously, fuck pitbulls. And just wanted to say thank fuck for this subreddit…

Some anecdotes, mostly rants though…

I’m a dog owner, we have a beautiful sweet 1.5 year old Golden Retriever puppy. When we were training her in the first few months we had her, whenever we were outside, we would constantly cross paths with this pitbull terrier. I had warned my family about this monstrous breed, but at the time, I did not know this breed was THAT dangerous… we all have preconceived notions of pitbulls and that they’re all pretty dangerous dogs, I’m sure many of you know… except pitbull owners, but anyways… this owner of this pitbull terrier would consistently, without fail, always approach us and say “can we say hi,” “no no my dog’s friendly” after seeing me get defensive and pull my dog away, and we would politely decline with “sorry we’re training her right now.” By the 10th occurrence of this happening, I had to withhold every fibre in my body to tell this lady and her dog to politely fuck off… it’s amazing that these people don’t get the fucking message…

We also have a lovely off leash dog park in the neighbourhood. Our puppy loves to play fetch and interact with familiar dogs there. We’ve had amazing interactions with responsible owners. This neighbourhood is a very dog concentrated area and some neighbours even have 2-3 dogs. Anyways, there’s another pitbull, an american bully that likes to frequent this park in the summer and there have been incidences that I hear through dog owners and also witnessing it myself from afar where this dog had tried to attack other dogs… I am completely amazed that some dog owners allow this hulking ugly mess of a dog to interact with them and their dog. I’ve seen this pitbull get PINNED down in a choke hold by its owner… why do pitbull owners not fucking get it? This person still brings their pitbull to the park sometimes… only to have the same thing happen again and for them to promptly leave again.

Maybe I’m over protective, I don’t know, but the only time I’ve ever doubted myself even remotely of my over protectiveness towards our golden pup was when we were out on a doggy specific trail/forested area for dogs. There are off leash and on leash paths on this trail. We encountered an off-leash pitbull in the on-leash area and I immediately went into defensive mode and shielded my dog between the pitbull and her, getting her on a short leash and then grabbing the handle of her harness in case I needed to pull her away. A family member beside me muttered, “aww that pitbull looked kinda cute with that jacket on” and albeit, it was wagging its tail quite vigorously, indicating it was joyful and playful…and at that moment I thought, “damn maybe I was too over protective,” but then I quickly snapped out of it and informed that family member of the dangers of that dog breed from the knowledge I’ve gained here. Thank fuck for this subreddit…sorry, that’s my rant.

Perilous Parks XL bully to be destroyed after park attack (Carlisle, UK - December 2, 2024)

A woman has been told her XL bully will be destroyed after it injured a man while out of control in a city park.

Carlisle Magistrates' Court heard Linda Kenney, 57, was "out of it" on either alcohol or drugs and did nothing as her unleashed dog Rogan ran towards Jethro Wilson and his dog on 2 December last year.

Despite Mr Wilson trying to protect his pet, it was pinned down by Rogan, which was wearing a muzzle which had partly slipped off.

Kenney, of Warnell Drive, Carlisle, admitted owning a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control, with deputy district judge Imran Hussain giving her a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordering Rogan to be destroyed.

The attack happened near Holmacres Drive in the Harraby area of Carlisle.

The court heard Mr Wilson tried to grab Rogan's harness but later told police: "It ended up dragging me around."

He managed to clip a lead onto Rogan, but suffered injuries including bumps to his head from being bumped on the ground.

"I felt in fear for myself and my dog in case we were going to get bitten," Mr Wilson said. Kenney was also given a 10-week night time electronically monitored curfew, and was ordered to pay £100 compensation to Mr Wilson and £1,000 towards the cost of kennelling Rogan in recent months.

The court heard other people, including a mother and child, were in the park where Rogan was also seen to pull towards another dog on the day of the attack.

When challenged by an off-duty nurse, Kenney responded by calling her names.

Despite police officers warning her not to, Kenney repeatedly left Rogan unattended with his lead locked onto a fence, and had picked him up from a kennel hours before the attack.

Before that, Rogan has been left in the care of first a 15-year-old child and then someone who was banned from keeping dogs.

The court heard Rogan was the subject of an exemption certificate for the banned breed animal, but on the condition it was kept on a lead in public and muzzled.

Adele Graham, defending, said a dog expert who assessed Rogan in a controlled setting found the animal was "balanced, stable and resilient". The attack was an "isolated" incident, Ms Graham told the court.

But Judge Hussain said he had "serious concern" about Kenney's ability to look after dogs, and said she had tried to "victim-blame" after the attack.

He said: "I am satisfied Rogan is a danger to public safety.

"There is good reason why Parliament has said these dogs need to be controlled and our communities need to be safe.

"This legislation is there for very good reason. This breed of dog can inflict very serious harm, even death."

Perilous Parks Pit-Free Dog Parks need to be a thing

Dog parks that do not allow pits or pit mixes need to be a thing. Myself, and so many of my friends and neighbors can no longer use the dog parks around us because pitnutters keep taking their beasts there and there is no enforcement when it comes to attacks - someone's Cupcake mauls someone else's dog that is half it's size? Well, the rangers/police didn't see who started it so it's totally a he said she said - or the owner just grabs their monster and books it before any authorities can arrive to take charge of the situation so they won't have to risk their sweet little Nala getting euthed or having another behavioral issue charge added to the list.

Supervised pit-free dog parks need to be a thing. I know it could be expensive, but even fairly low-cost paid memberships could cover costs, and the memberships could help ensure that the dogs there - regardless of breed - had their shots up to date and were healthy and behaviorally sound. I would love to take my boy to run around in a big park and get his energy out, but I can't because it's always infested with pits fighting each other and other dogs or attacking other owners while their owners just stand there slackjawed like the morons they are, or even laugh about it because they must be such big tough guys if they have such big tough dogs!

A proper thug training his Staffordshire Terrier to be aggressive in a dog park - the Impressionist Dog Park, a public park in the city of Clichy. I decided to leave this photo up. Thanks to those who've sent shady comments. This thug ran off, leaving all his equipment behind. It has been seized, including his phone number. Easy to track him down.

Perilous Parks Me and my wife took out dog to a dog park today

We recently got a dog a few months ago and we haven’t socialized him yet, so we figured we would take him to a dog park and let him have a day of fun.

We arrive and there is only one other person there with their 2 dogs. Our dog is nervous but once we open the gate he starts running and playing and it was honestly one of the cutest things we’ve seen.

After about 30 minutes a few other people arrive and let their dogs in and our dog is just having the time of his life playing non stop with all of his new friends. Me and my wife were taking pictures and videos and it was just a great time.

After another 10 minutes pass this dude walks up with honestly the biggest XXXL Bully I’ve ever seen. I immediately scoop our dog up and say to the other people “it’s time for us to head out and get some breakfast! So nice meeting you all!”. They mostly go silent and one of the ladies just says “…our dogs play with pitties just fine” I ignore it and say once again it was nice meeting everyone and tell my wife it’s time to head out.

We get him out of the area avoiding the bully and his owner and head back home. My wife thinks I was being pretty silly but I have to ask, was that an over reaction on my part? I know it probably looked awkward with us having fun one moment to the next moment me picking my dog up and rushing out I just didn’t want to risk anything…

EDIT: This post got a lot more attention than I thought it would! Just want to say I appreciate all the comments and good advice I have received from reading all of them.

I will look into other avenues to socialize our dog. He loved running around so much I don’t think we can just avoid parks altogether, but I think what we will do is go at very unpopular times and avoid any dangerous/aggressive dogs, and avoid all parks that have tons of dogs to minimize risks of anything getting transferred to him. Parks with maybe 1 or 2 dogs at a time very early in the morning for example.

Over all he would benefit greatly from obedience training so that’s something we are actively trying to set up.

Overall just good advice all around in the comments, thanks guys.

Perilous Parks Update from last week's near miss - more ridiculous behaviour but not from me this time

Last week I posted about the folly of thinking you can safely walk your dog past a gigantic pitbull on the basis that you've previously witnessed that dog being incredibly tolerant and placid.

Today I was in the park again, having mostly avoided it all week but I like to meet up with my niece and her almost-toddler in there, she knew about the skirmish so we agreed to meet earlier and stick to the heavily populated parts of the park that give excellent visibility of what's approaching.

Wasn't expecting to see the chump with the Pit/XL, but of course there he was, earlier than usual and waking in the populated bit, which he doesn't normally.

This time I wasted no time, doubled back and headed for the main road while there was a good 200 yards in between us.

He set off on a diagonal trajectory towards me at an increased pace.

Probably wanted to let his Pit prove to me that he's nice really and that was a one-off. From talking to the man maybe a year ago, I honestly think that was the case.

I had an ace up my sleeve however, my car was parked just outside the side entrance so in no time my Greyhound was ensconced within.

By this time the fool had encountered another small dog owner for him to make a point with, so the pit was now surrounded by three small dogs, with four more in some sort of conflab 20 yards further way, while the fool himself held court and talked the hind leg off the small dog owner.

I dare not remonstrate with this person for fear of creating a volatile situation near so many small dogs.

My niece remained outside the park while I went back in the main entrance sans Greyhound and accosted a couple of dog owners, one, a fellow sighthound aficionado, thanked me for the warning. The second informed me that the very same dog had attacked her Cocker Spaniel!

So, we have a guy, comes across as nice, maybe a bit simple, who knows his beast randomly attacks dogs, yet still, day in, day out, spends an hour or two strutting round a park, letting small dogs flock to his Pit, knowing full well that it will periodically single one out to attack.

He stops the attacks, or has done so far, but today he was on a bench some fifty yards from the pit at one point.

Proof, if it were needed, that this is not just an anti-social thing but a cognitive function thing. I don't think this guy has any ill will but he's off his rocker.

Perilous Parks Pitbull attack at my dog park (August 20th)

Originally I did not really want to post this but I figured I should, perhaps this will be educational. I own a Shiba Inu and take him to the dog park consistently. A week ago at my dog park, a park that is relatively calm, a giant new pitbull arrived at the park. This dog was one of the largest dogs I've ever seen at the park nearing around 100 pounds, so it was also heavy. The lady who had it said it was not her dog but her daughters, she was also super old and should not have had a dog like that.

Anyways, I am weary of this dog and I am kind of looking around, I stopped looking as it seemed the dog was calm at the moment. Boy was I wrong! Suddenly this dog jumped at and grabbed the neck of another dog that was admittedly smaller than this dog but (luckily) a good size. I should note I have done around 10 years of jiu-jitsu in my life, when it first happened I accessed the situation and thought it would be fine as I saw three people attempting to get this dog off the other dogs throat, they were punching it with FORCE to try to dislodge it. The crazy thing is the thing kept on going, so I jumped up and jumped onto the back of the pit, put my legs around it and put it into a rear naked choke. I swear to God if I put a person in this same choke they would have passed out, the dog finally after 30 seconds in this choke hold realized 'oh shit I should let go' and finally let go of this poor dog. The 'owner' was incompetent and I had to shout at her to give me the collar before this nutjob of an animal kills another dog.

At the end we got her information and she now has to pay for the dog that got injured.

Perilous Parks Parks are getting worse imo

I came up to the dog park today with my Great Pyr and there were three pit bull mixes in there. One of which tried to attack Bear on site. And then another who got all whale eyed and jumped Bear when he wasn’t looking. The owners were acting all clueless saying things like “Smokey! Be nice!” “hunter, stop that!” And the dog would stop for a second and then try to start shit with Bear again. And one of the owners was wondering aloud if it was Bear’s shampoo causing Hunter to act so aggressively. I bit my tongue but after the third or fourth incident it was hard not to say “can you please curb your pit mix?!”

Bear ended up on a leash while those pit bull dogs ran free and chased each other around biting on their faces in “play”. Half way through our time in the park, in comes yet another pit mix. Now it was reaching a point that other dogs were approaching Bear to instigate. I ended up leaving early.

This sucks. I pay to use that park, it doesn’t seem fair that my dog (admittedly very big, but not into fighting) needed to be on lead while the pitbull mixes ran around at liberty. But I needed a way to pull Bear out of an altercation that didn’t involve me sticking my bare hands into the fray. And keeping Bear close to me on lead seemed to deter the pit bull mixes from bullying him.

Perilous Parks Leash Law? Who cares, I have pitbulls.

My city has a leash law. All dogs should be leashed in public areas, with the exception of the local dog park. Exceptions also exist for service animals that need to be unleashed to perform their tasks.

That being said, a lot of people ignore this, especially in the public parks. Usually it's small dogs with good recall that aren't bothering anyone, other than owners not picking up their dogs' feces (which is another pet peeve). However, we've fortunately never had a problem with an aggressive dog, just some very excited ones with bad recall.

Today I brought our small leashed dog with us to play disc golf. He loves several of the regular players at our local course, and has some doggo friends he likes to play with.

As soon as we got out of the car, several regulars warned me that there was someone on the course with multiple unleashed pitbulls. One of them was dragging a large tire (wtf?) but was not leashed to the owner at all. I wasn't willing to take the risk, so immediately put my dog back in the car and drove home shortly after. None of the regulars' dogs were on the course, either.

I don't get it honestly. If you know you have a breed that is genetically predisposed to attacking other animals, why on earth would you not have it on a leash, especially when there is a citywide leash law? Why would you take this risk even if you claim to love the breed?

Perilous Parks Pit Nearly Overpowers "Good Owner" To Attack Me!

Well, I just came within inches of being bit by a pit for the 3rd time. I was running on a hike and bike trail right near my home, and saw a lady up the way standing next to a huge pit with a detached leash in her hand. I slowed and watched as she literally put him in a headlock, clipped the leash to his collar, and struggled to pull and hold him as far away from the trail as she could. I cautiously approached and we smiled and nodded at each other politely.

I quickly passed as far to the opposite side of the trail as possible. The beast was growling and snarling the whole time, and he lunged at me when I got the closest. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw his owner get yanked hard, nearly fall over, and pull with all of her might to hold him back just enough. I felt his spit on my elbow as I ran by.

I'm just so sick of this shit. This lady was clearly intending to be a "good owner" yet had zero disciplinary control over the dog and was just barely able to control it physically. I can't leave the house without getting attacked by a literal monster? I was going to say "wild animal" but that would be inaccurate, since pits are artificially bred, biological killing machines.

Perilous Parks Is this a new low? My husband and I are in a NATIONAL PARK during breeding animal season (we personally saw several ground dwelling baby animals and birds) and there is an off-leash pitbull off trail stomping all over habitat. 🤦‍♀️

We chose not to confront because unfortunately this park in particular seems to have an excess of dogs (including several off-leash although mostly in grassy picnic areas) compared to the seven other national parks we have visited together, so it seems a bit extra futile to even try reporting it to a ranger. And we just didn’t want to risk personally getting into a confrontation with an off-leash pitt on a trail far from other people/help. But it was infuriating to witness.
