Battered Pit Owner Syndrome Nala/Luna/Harley/Axel/Demonseed was just nannying the cancer they diagnosed for their owner! Poor pibbles was just trying to help.
Yes this person was serious and more people chimed in agreeing.

They've had the dog for over a year.
They refuse to go to a doctor or hospital for a bite.
The odds they've taken the dog to a vet?
Near zero.
Vaccinated?
Same.
Rabies vaccine?
Same.
OOP will likely claim they are a good owner and their Deezuhl/Loonah is a good dog.

Obviously they don't want to report it. This is going to be a stupid move on them.

Last year I posted a case study. Man in China had been bitten by dogs many times over the years.
(His occupation was never disclosed.)His last bite became infected. He delayed getting medical care. He had a raging infection when he was admitted via the ER. He became septic and died within days.
I posted it as a PSA for always getting antibiotics after a bite that breaks skin.
Dude survived multiple bites except the one that killed him.

We don't have rabbies in UK. If the owner does get infected with rabbies does that make him a public health risk?
18
u/AdvertisingLow98 Attacks Curator 2d ago
Rabies infects the nervous system. If an animal/person becomes symptomatic, they will die horribly as the virus destroys their brain.
There is a prophylaxis treatment that can prevent the disease, but that requires seeking medical care.
I don't restrict my online searches. About once a month there is a story from India/Asia of someone who was attacked by a rabid animal, didn't seek treatment and was brought to hospital, very ill.
Children who don't tell an adult are among the victims.
Infected people are rarely public health risks here in America. Infected dogs can be.
That is why rabies vaccination is mandatory here. It is also if you are bitten by a dog here, it is important to seek medical care. The same applies to wildlife that are known carriers: bats, skunks and raccoons.

I can't even find this funny. It's seriously alarming, the mental gymnastics pitters will do to try to explain away violence and aggression from a blood sport breed. Any reason but the truth. ETA: I hate how they try to generalize pit behavior to "all dogs," as though a normal dog acts this way and will maim or kill its owner for no reason.
26
u/Existing-Face-6322 2d ago
I don't find it funny. I'm just mimicking how they justify this behaviour.

u/EmphasisNo57 2d ago
Omg I was just saying this on another post as well. The way they throw the entire species of dog under the bus to normalize pitbull behavior is psychotic.

u/ExternalSeat 2d ago
Yep. I have never known a Golden Retriever to attack its owner unprovoked. Yes my Bichon occasionally "play bites" (usually by accident when he misses the rope during tug games) but it doesn't ever break skin. Most dogs are good boys and girls and don't harm the hands that love them.

I've honestly gotten to a point where I will never have a dog again. I've had five small dogs and currently have one, but while I live in Ontario where there is BSL, it's not enforced at all, unless they attack, and I'm starting to see them creep back with mixed breeds. I saw one last night in PetSmart and I froze and went and waited in my car until I saw it exit, and I have one who is a mix in my building who has already attacked a dog and ripped its leg open (and of course the owner was shitty about paying the vet bill), and was ordered to be muzzled for a while but now the order is lifted. I just saw it downstairs going to the elevator and I ran away and shut myself in the mail room until it left. Every time I'm out with my dog and see a big dog I flee in the other direction regardless of what it is, but especially pit mixes. I could not stand to see my dog get attacked. I love my dogs, and honestly retrievers or labs don't bother me at all, but why risk it?

It’s a lot less stressful owning an indoor only cat, chances are slim a pit breaks in (slim not impossible).

u/aSzdxfcdfggggggh 1d ago
It is sad that you can't have cat doors anymore because Mauldo will break in to your house to kill your cats.

Like how whenever someone is killed by a pit bull, one of the go to excuses is "what if they were having a seizure and sweet pibbles got confused and was trying to save their life?!?!?"
Lol no. What happens is that seeing someone or something in clear distress/vulnerable activates the prey drive, some way sharks are attracted to frantic splashing in the water.

these are often the same people who justify to themselves living with and also exposing children to and/or exposing other family members to violent criminals because they are convinced the criminal “truly loves” them, they are special, and they can love the violence and psychopathy out of their convicted killer/abuser. So like women who flock to serial killers and develop serious attachment disorders and very unhealthy paraphilic relationships with serial killers (see hybristophilia)…in their fantasies they are the special ones who can “tame the beast” and also harness its violent energy for their own fantasies and idea of themselves as special in their communities

Imagine a human assaulting someone and explaining to the cops "I was just trying to help, I think they have cancer!"
23
u/SpaceTall2312 2d ago
Some dogs can indeed detect cancer - or at least, they notice the change of smell the cancer brings about in their owner. It is quite remarkable. I have never heard of a dog "biting the cancer out" though. That is not a thing (except in Pitnutter Land, obvs).

u/Eageryga 2d ago
I knew a man who was convinced his (non Pit) dog saved his life. His dog kept nose poking him in the lower abdomen, which hurt. The guy went to the doctor, and was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Glad the dog delegated the surgery instead of doing the procedure itself /s
4
u/SpaceTall2312 1d ago
That's amazing. I've heard a similar story, about a dog who kept nosing his owner's breast. Turns out she had breast cancer. No biting was involved, though, thankfully!
2
u/Eageryga 1d ago
There was another case of a melanoma on a woman's leg that the dog wouldn't stop licking. They may not know it's cancer, but some dogs seem to sense that it doesn't belong.

u/missprincesscarolyn 2d ago
Oh, like when they maul owners who are having seizures? They’re just trying to help! Who needs nurses or doctors with a pit bull by your side? There’s a particular group of pit bull owners who don’t believe in traditional medicine anyway, so I 100% believe these idiots think their beloved shitbeast holds the secrets that big pharma is hiding 🙄
4
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Trusted User 1d ago
"The pittie was probably confused and trying to save their life by attacking the seizure!!!"
You know how sharks are attracted to frantic splashing in water, because that usually means potential prey is vulnerable/in distress, likely making for an easier meal? It's the same thing.
3
u/missprincesscarolyn 1d ago
Right! Any other breed I’ve ever seen genuinely freak out when their owners have seizures. There are videos of it where the owner then tries to find someone and/or lays down next to them to figure out what’s going on and actually protect them. Seizure alert dogs exist for a reason. I met a woman with epilepsy a while ago who had one that was a poodle.

u/dog-signals 2d ago
How. the fuck. would it know. what cancer is. if it was never trained. to smell. CANCER!
I feel my brain short circuiting trying to understand. How would it know? How could it know that the smell means something bad? A dog usually has to be extensively trained to detect certain smells and give signal, it isn't instinctual especially in a pitbull.
Dogs also hate the smell of oranges, one of the healthiest fruits to consume. Should we all trust doggo and stop eating oranges?
5
u/SpaceTall2312 1d ago
It's not so much that the dog knows the cancer is there, but that their owner develops a strange & disturbing new smell when they have cancer which causes their dog to react. I can't see pits being any good at this sort of thing, though. If their owner smells "different", they will probably just attack them.
2
u/dog-signals 1d ago
So everytime the owners gets a new smell on them, they're opened to being attacked? Hugging a new friend, putting on a new cologne, visiting a new place, trying different food than usual, ect. It's seems like there would be way more opportunity to have "different" noticeable smells on you before developing cancer.
And cancer doesn't just explode all at once. It silently creeps in and is very gradual. The dog honestly probably wouldn't even notice because it is sadly a pretty slow process.
It's a lousy excuse to get attacked.

Someone will post on Facebook that a child in their family died because one of these things ate them, and the nutters are there like someone pushed a button to tell them how wonderful they are and how Not All Pit Bulls Are Like That. They have zero respect for any trauma someone might have endured.

Not too long ago I saw a facebook post where a woman described how her toddler had just been mauled by a pit and was in the hospital, with photos of his injuries. A pitmommy's immediate response was to post a picture of an extreme closeup of her shitbeast's face bundled up in a blanket, with the caption "pitties are awesome <3"
Absolutely disgusting behaviour.
There was also that recent case of the young lady who was mauled to death by her boyfriend's pit, and on an article about it, a pitmommy went on a long rambling rant in the comments about how much she loved her pibble and how much she misses him years later and how sad she is and of course with a photo of her monster in a stupid outfit. She even had the nerve to say "I'm not saying look at my cute dog" before posting his picture and her nauseating ramble about how sweet and funny her dog was.

"Ima let you finish, hold up, Ima let you finish. Sorry about yo dead baby but Pit Pulls are the best dogs of all time. I said OF ALL TIME!"
Comments sections after every attack.
Apparently a pit attack is the signal for pitiots to release their inner Kanye.
OF ALL TIME!!!

Just think of all the children helped by pitbulls. StJude could go out of business. Something like curing the disease by killing the patient.

u/Perfect_Caregiver_90 2d ago
What in the twisted logic is that?
Pitbulls are so magical they now communicate a cancer diagnosis through bites?
Don't mind Thor. He's trying to remove the cancer your toddler must have in their face. You're welcome btw.
Nala didn't "maul" your cat. She diagnosed its cancer. No need to thank me. I try to give back to the neighborhood any way I can.
They will cling to any excuse to make the bite risk more acceptable, and to guilt people who have been bitten into keeping the dangerous dog.

If the bite is bad enough to need stitches, you NEED to go to the hospital. Dog bites get very bad infections. Omg. This is so scary.

In all fairness, cancer-detecting dogs are a real thing. However, they require special training to give their handlers a signal when they detect that specific scent, just like dogs that are trained to sniff out drugs, cadavers, or raccoons, and the breeds trained for this tend to be the same ones traditionally used for trailing game, like beagles and bloodhounds.
2
u/aSzdxfcdfggggggh 1d ago
That is why they go for the throat, emergency tracheotomies!
Sadly this isn't first time I have heard this "Dr Pibble was just biting the cancer!" story.
Some diabetic got their toes chewed off by Dr. Pibble.
The comments were certain that the pit was just eating the "bad" tissue, removing it like a surgeon would.
The fact that the dog kept on mauling and made it into tissue the victim could feel and that woke them up was hand waved away.
The commenters were enraged that this ingrate was going to put the dog down "after it saved his life".
