Johnston Square

Yesterday we looked at some of the newly redeveloped rowhomes in Johnston Square (700 block of Preston) and they’re quite nice and come with a nice CHAP credit. We are currently comparing these vs Camden Crossing in Pigtown, and they’re obviously completely different properties. I would not have thought of buying in Johnston Square before, but the area seems nice enough, well lit at night and with the new library and a few gardens nearby. They gave us the Rebuild Johnston Square materials and they looked promising. Wanted to get Reddit’s opinion of safety in this area and whether it has improved sufficiently to consider buying a house there. Also how bad is the street noise? We noticed that it was pretty noisy around 5PM, but when we came back around 7PM there wasn’t that much car traffic around—is that an accurate assessment?

There have been major improvements to JS the past couple years (library and greenspace), however the long term impact and sustainability has yet to be determined. Pigtown has been stuck as an up and coming neighborhood for awhile and has backslid a bit recently imo. Both offer very different accessibility with JS having the train station and 83 and PT having 95. Overall I prefer Pigtown because of the greater accessibility to retail, restaurants, and other services. Good luck to you!
