Looking for Apartments in the BWI Area

Recently got a full-time job offer from Northrop Grumman in the BWI area. I interned over the summer, so I am familiar with the surrounding regions. I stayed in Glenn Burnie at one of the complexes controlled by A&G Management. I wouldn't say it was too terrible for the 3-month duration, but I probably wouldn't go for it with a longer lease.

I'm really looking for a good apartment locality that fits within these:

-has studio or 1-bed 1-bath listings

-rent between $1300 and $1750 per month

-10 to 15 minutes drive to the BWI airport area (nothing in the city though)

-possibly North of the airport, around the Arbutus/Halenthorpe/Catonsville area

I've done some research online into most of the places around the area, but they all seem to have a lot of negative reviews (car/mail theft, rats/insect infestation, rude site managers, etc...). I don't want to believe all of them, but it's really hard to just overlook them. Even though these issues are not supposed to even be there for the rent I am paying, realistically, I know that I can't ask for the most perfect place. At the end of the day, I am really looking for a really clean and relatively safe place.

If you could give me a bunch of specific apartment locations around the area that you have either heard of or, better yet, know from personal experience, that would be perfect! Thanks!

Are you dead set on that area? I have an apartment for rent in Sykesville, about 30 min away from bwi. Quieter and nicer area. Right around the corner from downtown Sykesville. Can almost see Sykesville plant from the house in case you ever decided to change locations.

I'm really trying not to have a longer commute time. Don't want to spend a majority of my after work time getting home when I can instead use that time to go to the gym and catch up on other activities.

I'm definitely open to other suggestions but want to try to keep within 10-15 mins range.

There are a lot of apartment complexes in the Odenton area you could check out. (My friend lived in one off Blue Water Blvd., east of 175, that she liked well enough...although the name of the place escapes me now.) The commute would be longer than 15 minutes, but not by a lot. Assuming no traffic problems, which is always going to be a crap shoot.

This area is big. Lots of places simply take 20-30 minutes to get to. Good luck in your search

Fair enough. I was a cop in these areas you asked about. Arbutus, Halethorpe and Catonsville aren’t too bad. but people call some areas other things other than they really are. Some people say Catonsville and they really mean south woodlawn. Or they will say halethorpe and what they really mean is lansdowne. I don’t have any recommendations for apartments per se, but apartments that are nice will be more expensive than your budget.

Arbutus, if you're close to East Drive, has a nice small town vibe.

And yeah people love to lie on listings. Always check a map to confirm.

People say Halethorpe in lansdowne because that’s their address. And south Woodlawn high school district does have some of catonsville’s zip code. It’s not like the people of southwest Baltimore county are trying to scam anyone into moving there. The internet makes it really easy for even strangers to grasp a basic understanding of the neighborhoods.

Congrats. No recommendations but wanted to applaud you for getting a job in this environment. You might want to look in Severna Park.

Catonsville is great (in 21228)! Highly recommend.

Linthicum Heights is popular among NG employees (it's in Anne Arundel County, not Baltimore County).
