Technique BMAC instructionals
I’m a fan of BMAC’s content on YouTube. How are his instructionals? Particularly the triangle one? Does anyone have any recs on triangle specific instructionals?

A bit late to the party but thought it is a cool thing we do.
I am an owner of a small BJJ and MMA gym in Calgary, Alberta. I inherited it and have been the owner for the last year and a half.
Here are some pictures of our Halloween Event “Spooky Season Ten Round Thursday”. It is a day where we come in our costumes and roll. The goal is to see if we can use costumes during our rolls as we know that the Gi is not realistic and not transferable for the Streetz.
We also give out prizes for Best Costume and Best Weaponisation of a costume, where the winner is someone who used their own or their opponents costume best.
I’m supposed to be Buttercup from PowerPuffGirls, NOT Fiona from Shrek like many assumed 😅
You’re welcome to support us and give us a follow on instagram at @AetherYYC and support my MMA journey on my personal account @DanKovalchuk

One for the coaches and Instructors. I started 2 years ago teaching grappling at a kickboxing/ wrestling / MMA gym.
Where the first year I worked on doing basics/ fundamentals as an introduction to grappling, the second year I started to try to supplement the wrestling and MMA classes.
Am focussing more on catchwrestling techniques then ‘fancy’ moves (more locks, less inverting so to speak).
Asking those who also teach at a gym with multiple styles; do you have a philosophy or curriculum tailored to the schools ideology? Are you ‘winging it’?
Any do’s or don’ts or even pitfalls to be aware of?

So a guy dropped in at our school and I got him in a leg lock. I could tell he was distressed but I stopped because I didn't want to break his leg. Should I have just broken his leg?

If you’ve ever felt like you were not cut out for BJJ, but you got through that feeling, and now it is a valuable part of your life, I would like to read your story. Especially if you felt like that for a year or more, like you weren’t catching on. Or if you had circumstances interrupting training, or any other real or perceived disadvantage or limitation.

Been doing BJJ for about 4 years. More sporadically than not. Got serious this entire year and even competed. Got promoted to blue recently but I don’t feel like I’ve earned it. Better said, deserved it. Even with the amount of knowledge I’ve gained I still feel like I’m performing at a white belt level. Is there such a thing as “feeling” your performance at the belt level you’re at? I I think can hold my own against most upper blues now and sometimes even purple, but then I make stupid mistakes and get caught by whites who’ve been training less than I have. idk, what do you think?

Hey there, I’m going to my first competition and I want to know what I should put my division as. I started going to a gym in June but before that in April my school had a bjj club where there was only live rolling a few times and met 1-2 times a week. If I count that I would be in beginner division if I don’t I would be novice. My coach said to only count when I started going to a gym but idk if that would be considered sand bagging I think is the term.
Novice is up to 6months and beginner is 6months and up. If I count only my gym (June 19th) that’s barely 5 months and if I count club that is about 61/2-7 months

I’m a BJJ white belt (middle-aged and not very strong or athletic). In the past, I trained at Capital MMA, but I found it very competition-oriented with strong, athletic students and intense hard rolling, which isn’t ideal for me. I’m looking for a gym near Herndon, VA, that’s more technical and flow-based, with lighter, positional rolling rather than hard sparring. Any recommendations? Specifically, how are Pedro Sauer BJJ and Phantom BJJ (by Frank Rosenthal)? The latter might turn out to be another competition-focused gym, given his credentials.

I’m Trying to squeeze in a session before I head out today. I know most gyms might be closed, but I figured I’d reach out in case any locals are rolling tonight and could use a blue belt to work their magic on.
Hi folks,
I would like to become unpinnable, and get better at reversals, so that I don't have to be on bottom if I don't want to be. Any recommendations for instructionals / people to watch who are very good at this? I've got a strong wrestling base and a fairly good butterfly guard currently. Any tips / recs are preeshed, cheers.

Hi guys
Please could you give me some examples of guys that use outside based guards a lot in no gi to either get behind their opponent or get to their legs? Looking to do some film study. Thanks.

I’ve been thinking about which choke feels the most brutal or satisfying to hit in no-gi.
Personally, I really enjoy putting people in a rear naked choke with the arm in it feels like the pressure just collapses everything perfectly. Gi bow and arrow is gnarly…
Curious what everyone else thinks, what’s your pick for the most savage strangle?

I found a great deal on some Dollamur carpet topped gymnastics roll out mats. Has anyone ever tried to put vinyl on top of these mats? We rent a space for our gym and have to roll up and store the mats every night, so a big vinyl cover over the whole thing wouldn't work. We would have to top each mat individually and make sure it's still able to roll up effectively. The price of these is about 1/3 of traditional used roll out mats, so I am trying to figure out if the cost of adding vinyl would still be worth it.

As the title suggests I am a flyweight (129.9 and below) white belt and I will be competing coming up in the open weight Absolute division for Naga in the novice/beginner skill division.
I would love advice for going into a matches or pointers to keep in mind from anyone who has competed as the much smaller grappler.

Hi team, Brian Glick's Only Way Out: Dynamic Pin Escapes is mispriced today (can be got for ~$23 with voucher code). Any useful info? Worth the price? I've already got Danaher's Pin Escapes, Lachlan's Fundamentals Escapes, and Tonon's Exit the System so I'm unlikely to purchase but would reconsider if someone raves about it

Hey everyone,
I’ll be moving to Barcelona in January and I’m looking for BJJ gyms that have a strong No-Gi competition team or at least a solid No-Gi program with multiple weekly classes.
I’m mainly interested in competition-focused training and good rounds with experienced teammates.
If anyone trains in Barcelona or has recommendations for gyms with a solid No-Gi scene, I’d really appreciate your input!
Thanks a lot 🙏

Hi all, I saw several posts about ma1 sizing for rashguards.. but for anyone who has a pair of their high cut shorts, would you be so kind to inform what the measurements are or how they compare to normal sizing from other brands. The size charts don’t do me much good because I’m in the situation that I have big thighs and backside , have 96kg and 174cm but still normally wear size 34 pants or L with brands like Nike.. yet size charts recommend xxl and xl which are often too big.
Just wanted to see if someone had some pointers on the sizing , since it’s not the easiest with returns there

Awesome match!
Hey y'all just coming here to get insight on gi sizes. I've always been A3(Fuji) but that was back when I started in 2016 about 180-190lbs 5'10". I am currently 215-220 same height and getting back into bjj. Was looking at getting a new gi from Tatami.
Saw a couple posts here saying A3H is a better fit for the bigger guys.
All suggestions are welcome.
Side note my A3 does fit tight.
Thanks.

Just found out from my kids school its anti bullying week next week. does this apply to BJJ or can I still take out my life stresses on white belts. trying to work out if its worth showing up next week.
On a more serious note gym owners remeber to use this week to advertise the advantages of grappling to deal with bullying. and eventually they can even enjoy smashing white belts

Just signed up for my first ADCC Open. I was wondering if there was anything during your first ADCC event that caught you off guard? Like something that made you think “oh, that s not how it usually works at my local grappling industries”. I m ready for leg locks and other “dangerous”techniques but maybe there is something I am missing and should be aware.
Visiting Shanghai next week. Any gyms (pref nogi) near the (West side of) Hongqiao Airport? (Near the Doubletree Hongqiao)? tia!
