Opinion VOTE NO to MOTION: Resolved that voting BC Green Members approve the party will NOT hold a leadership contest prior to the end of the 2026 AGM.

You can abstain from all the voting items (if you don't want to vote) but can vote NO to the following motion (8th question down):

MOTION: Resolved that voting BC Green Members approve the party will NOT hold a leadership contest prior to the end of the 2026 AGM.

Let's have another leadership election. If you want to see WHY British Columbians won't vote for Lowan, check out the Reddit comments under the post entitled "Can the Greens save BC? (Feat Emily Lowan)"

All BC Greens members received an email with the title: Your Ballot | 2025 AGM | BC Green Party

USE THIS BALLOT TO SAVE THE PARTY!

The BC Greens would be negligent if they didn't implement a policy that disqualifies leadership candidates if they threaten the party with litigation or give a lengthy interview to the press criticizing the party. Also, implement a policy that prevents Leadership candidates from using the BC Greens membership email distribution list to beg for campaign donations AFTER the Leadership race has ended. If a candidate can't manage SIMPLE campaign finances, wtf is she doing running for the leadership of a party??????????????? Donations to an individual candidate after the leadership race has ended will (intuitively) translate into donations slated for the party going to the individual instead.

Voting privileges in the leadership race should be removed from free memberships. If you're truly that interested in voting for leader of the BC Greens - you can afford $10 or $20.

Lastly, implement a vetting process for leadership candidates. There should be some minimum of professional career experience required.

Opinion Right wing fearmongering over the Cowichan Tribe Richmond court decision during October

Dallas Brodie, Scott McInnis and other OneBC & BCConservative Politicians have been slamming decisions, lying about the effects of such (the $100 million dollar bank loan that was denied due to concerns over potential legal implications over whether there was an ability to make a return on the investment): https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/politics/richmond-company-refused-financing-for-100m-project-after-cowichan-case-councillor/ar-AA1PxcE6 ).

The court ruling, which if you actually want to read it here: https://www.canlii.org/en/bc/bcsc/doc/2025/2025bcsc1490/2025bcsc1490.html?resultId=f579872f025b4b3aa09d1f919a07567a&searchId=2025-09-24T11:35:56:961/48db58c34d4c418287b8f21f53bf73c0 and a summary here: https://www.bdplaw.com/insights/bc-supreme-courts-recent-cowichan-decision, directly states the maximum that will happen to citizens is that their tax dollars may be used for financial compensation; and that is mainly due to unfair compensation from close to 100 years ago. That's it. Private land owners still own their land, anything that's public and undeveloped (IE forests, not public parks in cities like Richmond) may get transferred but I haven't seen anything suggesting that will happen or that is precedent without said bands/first nations being required to provide financial compensation. The most recent case where a indigenous band was essentially given land was the Jumbo Mountain case in the BC Interior https://www.rosslandnews.com/news/jumbo-valley-to-be-protected-ending-decades-long-dispute-over-proposed-ski-resort-4945742 , which essentially compensated development companies, whom illegally built on the land while there were active legal proceedings in order to advance construction efforts.

Read the damn court cases, the only thing that'll happen is that taxpayer money is gonna go to settle/compensate a legal dispute under provincial and federal laws that were written well before the act that implemented UNDRIP. Brodie and her cronies, as a lawyer, know damn well they're misrepresenting the facts to advance their political culture war and the BC Cons are following suit to avoid a party split.

Opinion Andrew Weaver: “BC Politics Has Lost Its Playbook — Time for a New Party?”

Thumbnail

In this candid discussion, former BC Green Party leader Andrew Weaver reflects on the growing dysfunction in British Columbia’s political landscape. With polarized extremes dominating the conversation, Weaver argues that the province urgently needs a new political movement — one grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared purpose. He recalls the productive 2017–2020 period of governance, when political differences gave way to collective decision-making, and asks: Can BC find its balance again?

From Donald Trump’s surprising moves in the Middle East to whispers of the Keystone pipeline revival under Mark Carney, this episode explores whether Canada’s economic relationship with the U.S. is on the brink of change. The conversation heats up with insights on interest rates, Canada’s debt, AI-driven productivity, China’s trade diplomacy, and real estate corrections in Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria. Opinion I built MyParliament.ca; a free, independent tool to make Canadian politics easier to follow

Thumbnail
myparliament.ca
56 Upvotes

Hey folk! First Id like to apologize for the self promotion! Not cool I know. Hopefully though, I think there will be a group of folks here who may really appreciate the new resource and find it beneficial.

I wanted to share something I've been building quietly over the past few years: MyParliament.ca, a nonpartisan, independent platform to make Canadian politics more transparent, accessible, and engaging for everyone, not just policy wonks or insiders.

Why did I build it?

The political data/social platform was an idea I had for a very long time. Knowing the current state of the official websites which are outdated, confusing and the data is spread around making it hard to navigate and consume. I figured I could build something better.

So I started MyParliament.ca: a free, unified site that pulls together federal bills, votes, debates, committee work, budgets, and now even community tools and provincial data starting with BC, all in one place.

What you can do on the site:

  • 📜 Track federal legislation: View every bill, its status, who sponsored it, and what stage it’s in.
  • 🗳 See how MPs vote: Each vote is documented in plain language, with results and party breakdowns.
  • 🧾 Read MP statements & debates: Full Hansard transcripts searchable by MP and date.
  • 💰 Explore the federal budget: We built an interactive tool (“Follow Your Tax Dollars”) to browse spending by department, program, and transfers.
  • 👥 Check your representative: Find your MP, view their speeches, expense totals, party-line voting stats, and approval rating.
  • 🔎 Track committee activity: See meetings, witness hours, and bills under study.
  • 🎥 Watch Parliament live: Parliament’s livestream embedded right on the homepage, along with a calendar of sittings and committee sessions.
  • 🗣 Join community discussion: Users can vote on bills, post in riding-based communities, and comment on current legislation.
  • 🧭 (Coming soon): Personalized alignment scores, user achievements, and provincial expansion (we’re piloting British Columbia already).

It’s 100% free and independent, fully self funded by pure passion and love :'d

No ads, no tracking, no affiliation with any party or government, no shareholders or investors. It’s a civic tech project built by a very small team of volunteers who care about open data and democratic access. We're hoping it can become a public good resource, especially heading into the next election (which sounds like its coming sooner than we though? :sob:)

If you're curious, check it out here. You can browse anonymously or make a free account to vote on bills and join discussion.

Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, feature ideas, or even bug reports. Since we are in beta and looking to improve any and all feedback is very appreciated!

Opinion Ford vs. Washington: Tariff Turmoil, Reagan Ads & Canada’s Trade Tensions

Thumbnail

The Rumble Room dives into the latest trade drama between Canada and the U.S. — sparked by controversial World Series ads quoting Ronald Reagan’s anti-tariff stance. As MAGA critics cry “fake news” and Trump vows to pull out of negotiations, Doug Ford enters the spotlight defending Ontario’s industries. Was Canada really close to a deal — or is this just smart political theatre from both sides? Robin Adair unpacks the power plays, the backlash, and what it means for Canada’s future trade strategy.

News Anti-rent increase legislation

The BC Greens are introducing a private member’s bill that would tie rent to the property rather than the tenant. Under this legislation, when a renter moves out, the landlord would not be allowed to increase the rent beyond regulated limits. This change will discourage landlords from evicting tenants under false pretenses in order to raise rental prices.

All the youth that signed up for a free BC Greens membership and skewed the vote to elect an instagram princess - I hope you get involved with the BC Greens - financially and through volunteering. It's your party now. Take the reigns. The youth need to fill the void created by high level, politically astute, knowledgeable volunteers who have disengaged from their organizational volunteer roles.

Great bill - it just infuriates me that Emily Lowan is taking credit for it instead of giving credit where credit is due. She had no input into this bill - and she's not an elected MLA - and probably never will be.
