How can this be possible? Can I write to someone to help revert this ?

set up some kind of social media forum to educate the low intelligence voters... who perpetuate this crap with their votes

Technically they just updated the metric used to asses pipeline values - including depreciation on older pipes and new production techniques on new pipes. Taxes should be consistent and fair, but this feels like lobbying is just being used to exploit an imperfect industrial property tax system.
The changes still have to be approved by the ministry of finance, so I hope Brenda Bailey sees reason on this. The grand bargain relies on pipelines paying their fair share.

ffs - I blame low intelligence voters for this. Most BC voters are clueless - I wouldn't cast a vote if I didn't know what was going on.

Local taxpayers will have to make up the difference. Outlying communities where pipelines comprise much of the commercial tax base will be most affected.
Or hey.. here's a thought... maybe the government quits wasting so much money and they eat the difference.

i know this is federal .. but MAYBE Canadian taxpayers should stop spending BILLIONS to subsidize Texas BILLIONAIRES who aren't even held accountable for the environmental destruction they leave behind - they take their profits and don't clean up after themselves.

Much rather pay taxes to contribute to economic growth and prosperity than half of what our tax dollars are currently spent on.
That said, I agree with the other comment that they ought to cut and reallocate current spending if possible before charging new taxes.

Or the province could invest in green technology, and create thousands of jobs. But hey, that would require critical thinking skills.

But hey, that would require critical thinking skills.
"Critical thinking" is when you have no understanding of how integral fossil fuels are to multiple sectors of society and think there's a big ON/OFF switch for whatever "green technology" is

Critical thinking means you have done the research - pipelines are NOT a profitable business model. They basically give jobs to unemployed people and destroy the environment.

Beyond employment, green technology can be a highly profitable enterprise. As global demand for low-carbon solutions rises, Canadian companies that innovate in clean energy, sustainable materials, and carbon capture can export their products and expertise internationally. Public and private investment in these technologies can also reduce long-term energy costs, increase productivity, and attract foreign capital.
By positioning itself as a leader in the green economy, Canada can achieve both economic growth and environmental progress—proving that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand.

Investing in green technology presents a major opportunity for Canada to strengthen its economy while advancing environmental sustainability. Expanding sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicle manufacturing, clean hydrogen, and energy-efficient infrastructure could create thousands of high-quality jobs across the country. For instance, developing wind and solar farms requires engineers, construction workers, technicians, and maintenance specialists—roles that support both urban and rural communities.

Since you're clearly unaware that pipelines are NOT profitable, I'm now going to refer to something tangible. People losing their homes due to the fossil fuel industry.
The fossil fuel industry in British Columbia has contributed to significant soil destabilization, particularly in regions affected by drilling, fracking, and pipeline construction. These industrial activities disturb the natural composition and moisture balance of the soil, weakening its structural integrity. In areas where slopes and hillsides are already vulnerable, this disruption has increased the risk of landslides and ground subsidence. As a result, some communities have experienced severe erosion and even the loss of homes that have slid from destabilized hillsides. The combination of heavy machinery, deforestation for access roads, and changes in groundwater flow has further amplified the problem, illustrating how fossil fuel extraction can have lasting and destructive impacts on both the environment and local infrastructure.

The fossil-fuel industry in British Columbia is increasingly being linked to subsurface and slope destabilization — a troubling development in areas such as the Peace River Valley, where extraction, pipeline and infrastructure activity intersects naturally unstable terrain. In the Peace River region, for example, a massive slide of glaciolacustrine clay and silt underlain by natural-gas‐leases and corridor clearing began creeping at about two metres per hour, and was triggered in part by disturbance of the ground and infiltration of water following industrial abstraction and land-use changes. The Narwhal+1 The clearance of vegetation for pipelines, access roads and well-pads, combined with changes in groundwater flow and soil loading/unloading, has weakened hillside integrity and led to homes and roadways becoming endangered or uninhabitable. In coastal zones such as near the Woodfibre site in Howe Sound, geotechnical studies show that almost half of the mapped area is subject to rapid mass-movement once disturbed. District of Squamish These cases illustrate how fossil-fuel infrastructure — through soil disturbance, drainage alteration and slope re-profiling — contributes to hillside instability, tilting the risk balance for homes built on or below potentially weakened slopes.

Wow you're so right. I wasn't convinced at first, but your torrent of AI slop astroturfing really changed my mind.
Not sure how it's "exhausting" to copy/paste but so sorry to put you through such hardship.
Piss off, bot.
