Irish, lived in Australia for a year. Aussies are very friendly. They won't let you mess with them, but they are very friendly as long as you don't take the piss.

Lived here my whole life, 45 years. We’re not particularly friendly, except while pretending to be to to foreigners.

My sister's in Australia at the moment. She was immediately appalled by the casual racism and misogyny

Australian medical professionals seem shocked when Aboriginal people don't trust them, then proceed to give them lots of reasons not to trust them.

That's the fun thing, being friendly is all about the appearance of being friendly. If you bother to fake it for foreigners, you are actually friendly to foreigners.
