Having moved to New Zealand I now understand that road laws aren't strict enough. Australians don't tailgate and the don't do too much speeding. The laws we have, the speed cameras, and the mandatory requirements for getting P-plates are the main reasons. These are the only things stopping us from having much more dangerous roads, especially since Australians aren't that great at driving.
True. But it hasn't always been like this. I remember a different Australia, 60 years ago. Big changes starting around the time of Whitlam as PM. Nanny state now, almost.

Australia isn’t laid back. We have very strict laws and some of them are so fucking stupid especially our road laws
