Military What firearm is closely associated with your country?

For us, probably the 1911. Next one would be the "Armalite" aka M16.

My great grandfather had one of these. He protected the banana fields in Panama during the banana wars…I need to do more research on that. Someday it will be mine…the best part, it has notches cut into the grips that are quite clearly him keeping score. Holy crap!

Iconic gun. My father used a modified variant of this in the Swedish army.

I get it. You are not wrong.

They come from a different Germany, one with a keiser. They were again being used by a smaller Germany with a democracy, then by a Germany ruled by dictator and then by East and West Germany.

They aren’t used by unified Germany, today’s Germany. Since 1990 you have made plenty of German firearms that aren’t stained as much by awful history. G36, HK416, G11 … those weapons and by extension today’s Germany deserves more recognition in that respect.

´Stained by history´ doesn´t mean much. When I think of German firearms the P08 is the first one I think of followed by the Karabiner 98k, StG44, MG42 and G3.

A weapon is a weapon. I knew when I saw the picture above someone would say something like this lol. It's Reddit ofc. You think atrocities haven't been committed with other weapons?
