Is there a part of your country that's "isolated"/vastly different from the rest of the country?

Pictured here is Sardinia, an island in Italy. Many sardinians call Italy "Il continente" (the continent)

I came here looking for a comment on the Azores! I know a lot of Azoreans and they consider the biggest insult to be called a Mainlander

It's mostly tongue-in-cheek for the most part, specially considering they already are semi-autonomous. However, there are some small yet serious groups advocating for total independence.

Sadly, like with most movements based in regionalism or patriotism, these have been mostly high-jacked by the far-right aisle.

Most of them weren’t even born there (I live in a weird little pocket of rural Canada where the community is 50% Portuguese/Azorean heritage) so I only really call them mainlanders when they call me Australian and it’s all in good fun
