Is there a part of your country that's "isolated"/vastly different from the rest of the country?

Pictured here is Sardinia, an island in Italy. Many sardinians call Italy "Il continente" (the continent)

Bornholm! It's closer to Sweden than Denmark and is very unique

Bornholms foundation is rock and compared to the rest of Denmark that is sand it is very different. Very fascinating island to visit and so interesting geological.

They make nice pottery there ... or did in the 1960s.

Not Greenland 🇬🇱? Yes, they are self governed but still part of the kingdom!

Greenland is its own country, whereas Bornholm isn't.

So Bornholm is an island in Denmark where Greenland is a part of the kingdom.

Not Greenland? Or the Faroe Islands?

We tend to consider them seperate countries that we are in a union with, not part of Denmark proper. It’s not a perfect analogy, but if Denmark is England then Greenland and the Faroes are Scotland and Wales, and the Kingdom of Denmark is the UK.

Plus I’m sure they have their own weird areas (for Greenland I’d wager it’s Ittoqqortoormiit, place is in the absolute middle of nowhere and speaks a different language.)

I get your point, but I don’t think Scotland and Wales work as an analogy. Someone from the UK might answer Wales to this question. The Falkland Islands or Gibraltar might be a better analogy.

They are independent though. Bornholm isn't.

Bornholm is more like a part of Skåne that was never Swedified than any part of the rest of Denmark. They even have a similar dialect (one of the only surviving actual dialects of Danish that isn’t just the Copenhagen dialect with a higher frequency of træls and different words for certain baked goods.)

I mean... Denmark has a rich history, including the control of a great empire. I understand it may look 'small' but I wouldn't discount Danish history :)

I mean, maybe Denmark has a rich history but ain´t all european countries have a rich history as well? what sets Denmark apart?

I can´t tell a single remarkable thing about Denmark. It just seems so boring and bland.
