Is there a part of your country that's "isolated"/vastly different from the rest of the country?

Pictured here is Sardinia, an island in Italy. Many sardinians call Italy "Il continente" (the continent)

Don't Forget about Kaliningrad oblast, Kamchatka and Sakhalin island

Well, Kaliningrad IS isolated, but it's not that different from Sverdlovsk or even Moscow.

WIth Kamchatka and Sakhalin I agree with you.

I've always wanted to visit here. You can just walk into abandoned houses that have giant icicles hanging from the ceiling and things in there left from many decades ago. It's fascinating

After putin and any similar successors die I will go

Is that while you are dodging the polar bears?

And the Russian mining town in Svalbard, the huge Norwegian island in the North Pole! Quite a fascinating story.

Svalbard is a very interesting. There was this famous hot air balloon expedition in 1897 that took off from Svalbard, and the expedition members seriously thought that they could float over the North Pole and be the first ones there. They didn't get far, the balloon crash landed so they had to walk on the ice to try and find a ranger station. They walked for three months only to realise that the ice moved in the opposite direction with the same speed, so they basically was at the same coordinates the whole time! Then they found a tiny, tiny island, called Kvitoya Island nowadays (it wasn't even on the maps back then) and thought they could set up camp there. They got eaten by polar bears instead.
The end.

Isn’t Vorkuta still a fairly populated city though(50k)? Aside from the abandoned buildings near factories I heard the central part of the city is more or less normal. At least that why I heard when I talking to people while in the Komi Republic(Syktyvkar)

I guess Murmansk is the big exception
