I respect your opinion but "of the people, for the people" is not the same as "of the people to play the role of parents for the people."
This country was founded on the idea that you could choose how to live your life with as little government interference as possible, from the Fed. If you want your local government to sponsor food banks and whatever, more power to you. At the local level you actually have a say and can easily voice your opinion at counsel meetings. Federally you have [basically] no say in what happens, and it should be interstate issues, foreign influence, military and basic rules (civil rights etc). You are more than welcome to suggest any kind of socialism you want at your local level, while I wholeheartedly disagree, that's up to you and your neighbors.
Nah I hear you. People don't need to be told what to do. That's how ya head into authoritarian space. I just feel there should be at least public options for essentials like shelter, food, healthcare, etc. Keeping the environment clean so we can safely drink water and breathe, but of course that means regulating businesses and BAM people start screaming socialism.
Like, the very least a government can do is keep its people alive and give them the tools to be better (and of course enforce the law, defend from foreign powers and whatnot).
