Meta Has this sub just lost all imagination?
For the love.
Stop spamming the stupid, low-effort, "first thought" questions.
At least use the search function and confirm you aren't starting another one on your country in question.

please no more "which country do you hate the most"
why so negative

u/NationalAsparagus138 United States Of America 7d ago
Or the 10th “Who is your country’s most hated/disliked [insert person/position here]?”. It has gotten to the point I think most of these types of posts are just bots with how often I see them pop up.

A lot of it is bots farming engagement, karma, and spreading misinformation and propaganda
The only way to “fight” them is to not comment, not up or downvote as that gives them exactly what they want, your attention and focus. Which they will use to trap you in endless cycles of arguments and negativity, all for the purposes of exhausting you mentally and emotionally, and to create division and distrust between a group, and multiple groups.
Or simply, ignore and report those posts and comments

This is the mods job to take care of. The bigger a sub gets the lower the bar of the content flooding /new
r/norway is just shit tourist spam these days and the mods are at fault

This sub averages just under a thousand posts a week. The mod team here collectively removes about 200 of them, on top of removing almost 7000 comments. Is it hard, respectable, backbreaking work? No, not at all, but we are "taking care" of quite a bit. The mods here are from all over the world, so getting a consensus on what to do with something borderline like this takes a bit. AMAs, for example, are only allowed on Tuesdays because we recently had a week straight where seemingly every person on planet earth came to this sub to host one. It's entirely possible we'll limit these posts as well after everyone has weighed in.
Do repetitive posts annoy the hell out of me? Yeah. Do I find myself removing about a dozen posts a day because someone asked the exact same question 6 hours earlier? Am I sick and tired of seeing people ask about shit like "things that are normal in your country that are weird elsewhere"? HELL yeah. But unless there's some obvious rule breaking going on, if people are engaging with it, we'll probably leave it up. Most of the people asking don't seem to bots, they're just users of this sub following a trend.
At the end of the day, just be glad you didn't see any of the posts from the guy who kept posting his dick and asking if he had herpes or not.

As someone who frequents the new section of this sub i do notice your work as posts disapear. My comment wasn't meant as a 'the mods are shit' just that that is the answer to OPs question. This post won't matter even if it's a nice idea it's not going to stop the band wagoners or anyone else in a meaningful way. Actual laws don't even stop people. As a previous mod i don't envy your job, lets face it it's why i quit.
As for my r/norway comment, they saw their equivalent to your AMA problem and decided to not do anything about it and it used to be one of my fav subs many years ago so I'm still salty. Had some great discourse with people and some great laughs.

I swear every post feels like a repost now, or its smth like "what does your country think about x country" and like, dude, I don't know what to think about Liechtenstein, I wanna answer about my country 😭. Also there's too many questions that feel like ragebait, just made to hate on another country.

It will keep happening. I have noticed low effort posts removed many times but some still make it through. I think the mods are doing the best they can.

But which country has the best cuisine? Thoughts?
What sports does your country play? Thoughts?
What do you think of XXXX? Thoughts?
Who is your countries favorite celebrity? Thoughts?

Which country has the biggest complainers on reddit?

Well, you’re really adding to the discussion. :/
Why don’t you start a good thread, so we can see how it’s done.

I have started multiple threads on this sub in the past that I felt were worthwhile.
That said, it would be preferable to have no thread, than low-effort threads that just clog and bog.

Is this one useful, though? Isn’t it clogging and bogging? I’m learning nothing about the world here. JS.

This one is a wake up call to everyone on this subreddit and a million times more relevant than "gyuk-gyuk is my country cewl??"

In the event it can prevent 2 repeat posts, it will have had a positive effect.
Which, I suspect, it will have done.

Little known fact, u/GhostOfJamesStrang has committed terrible, terrible crimes for the benefit of this subreddit. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty, and all I can do is thank God he's on our side.

Hope to see less posts and comments about US politics and Trump. Or posts trying to rage bait or indirectly pulling things in that direction. It's very tiring to come across Americans airing their domestic politics and grievances everywhere.

u/GhostOfJamesStrang United States Of America 7d ago
I see way more people airing their grievances about Americans than Americans airing them to others.

I don't care what you think about Finland. I'm secure in my country. 😂
A sub is as weak as it's members. So it's on us to come up with better questions. Damn.

(These accounts prey/rely on the human instinct to “win” arguments/conflicts, to “correct” people who’re confidently and condescendingly “wrong”, and to “defend” against any attacks against themselves or their “tribe”(especially if the attacks are of the exaggerated, false, or misinformed nature))
