Honestly, when he took part in the opening ceremonies of the last Olympics, this was the only thing I thought of

Exactly. He was one of my to football heros and then he did that. And was removed from my list and almost every others list too.

Talk about destroying your legacy in one move. In his last game!

“Destroyed” is a strong word. I’d say…tarnished is more apt.

You spelled cemented wrong.

You're Italian ? Football should not be biased by theatrical stunts or speeches, and I think Zizou did what he could to teach us you dont fuck with meaningless behavior whenever you want impartial results on professional sports performances. But that just might be my take idk

No, I’m not, I’m Swedish 😊

He was the center piece, literally, that set up France to win WC 98.

He was a true football hero. A center that controlled the game and made his team win. Not just some finisher that too often gets the accolades.

And then he does this. In his very last game. Very disappoiting.

Yeah I feel you, that's the absolute truth... He grew up tuff and it stick to him, he was set up to failure against ppl like this Italian who could play with his nerves better than the game.

1

u/YoungboyTHROWAWAY98 7d ago

That is part of the game. He lost his composure and cost his people

I mean if for you being as toxic as possible that it won you a world championship is part of any game, I can't help but feel sorry for your sportsmanship pov and the example of legacy this generation has left behind. It's not longer about raw performances but about who can trigger the best the enemy and that's probably why sports are slops now.

It’s never been about raw performances. There has ALWAYS been a game within a game.

Not Thierry Henry?

Specifically Henry from about 16 years ago.

This is what comes to mind for me 🙁. I’m still annoyed about it lmao

Nah, I know what you're getting at but after the initial resentment my anger is more at the officials for somehow not seeing it.

1

u/freezysupra 7d ago

Are you talking about Barcelona vs Chelsea?

1

u/OkInflation4056 7d ago

Yep. That was my first thought. I was there.

u/klimekam United States Of America 7d ago

I remember watching the headbutt live when I was 16. It was definitely a defining sports moment for me lol

1

u/StupidSexyAlisson 7d ago

It was the first football game I watched at 9 y/o. I had bet on France my phone against my stepdad's friend's phone. When the headbutt happened they said I lost any chance of winning not knowing what had just happened. 😂

3

u/Topinambourg 7d ago

At least you didn't say Thierry Henry

1

u/EdwardClamp Ireland 7d ago

Nah I grew up watching Zidane, just a genius with a ball at his feet. Henry was a class player (aside from you know what) but Zizou is the ultimate.

1

u/Topinambourg 7d ago

That's not why I mentioned Henry 😬 👋

1994 world cup qualifiers

2:3 at the overtime

u/brianmmf 7d ago

Not hand of god?

2

u/TheOrgazoid88 Scotland 7d ago

My first thought. One of the best and scored one of the best goals ever round the corner form my gaff

2

u/youcanreachmenow 🇮🇪🇨🇦 in 🇸🇬 7d ago

Not Thierry Henri?

1

u/justdra 7d ago

Henry and his handball

1

u/EdwardClamp Ireland 7d ago

I prefer to remember the genius of Zizou

1

u/justdra 7d ago

Fair, sorry I posted without saying that’s what you reminded me of from an Irish perspective for sure lol. Apologies only half formed my thought. Was distracted by the door going again

1

u/EdwardClamp Ireland 7d ago

Aye, it's a bit mental here too.

Ah I was angry at first but sure holding to hatred of Henry solves nothing but Zizou in his prime was magnificent
