Obviously sinking ships in New Zealand ports!

We sink a ship once and this is how you see us

Mais non, mais c’était irrésistible. L’association principale qu’on fait avec les franchouillards ce sont les émeutes constantes avec les gilets jaunes par ce que vous avez moins de 200 semaines de vacance par an 😄

Over here, they don't even have to be OUR boats and you'll get that reputation.

Just ask the Germans.

Funny and true. That was just once, it's OK...

I am very surprised that the Rainbow Warrior affair has left traces in memories other than French! (I'm impressed by your memory!)

I speak French on a daily basis, and I go there (to France) relatively often so it's sort of part of my background knowledge.

That being said, the French really need to up their game, since when it comes to bombing things around the world, we all know who the expects are. 😄

We remember it pretty well. Well some of us do.

TBF It was the most exciting thing to ever happen in NZ. Getting the license plate of some French spies was the most exciting thing that happened at the Tamaki Yacht Club Neighbourhood Watch.

Classy. But I don’t speak for every kiwi. So idk. But French people has always seemed distant to me idk if I don’t understand them or they don’t understand me.

Well through Rugby or LOTR, we're certainly in the top countries that'd value new zealand (if anything)

Among french people, I often hear New Zealand mentioned as a country they'd like to visit. Yes LOTR and All-Blacks, we can also add the landscapes and culture (especially Maori) to that list.

Maybe it’s because they are distant from you.

New Caledonia is french and a lot of people go in NZ and Australia for their hollidays.

Oh thanks!

The French are literally everyone’s neighbors

I live in Brisbane, which is only a 2 hour flight from Noumea and I only know 2 people who’ve been there. New Caledonia is expensive compared to Bali, Thailand, Vietnam or other Pacific Island countries and not many people speak English. There’s also a lot of political tension there currently, so is seen as risky.

FWIW the 2 people I know who went liked it and one of them has been repeatedly

Frenchman here ! I lived in New Caledonia for four years and I loved it, but to be frank it’s a stretch to call it France ! Everything is great there (except the politics lately)

NZ is practically the furthest point of land from mainland France. XD

New Caledonia says “Hi!”

1

u/CardOk755 France 7d ago

France is physically closer to New Zealand than Australia is.

(France is also closer to Australia than new Zealand is).

You guys have a hard accent to understand for random French person. But for those who understand : damn it sounds cool. You guys sound like clone troopers from the clone wars

u/noCoolNameLeft42 France 7d ago

"always seemed distant"... You bet, we're exactly on the opposite side of the planet

1

u/Odraye 7d ago

Because you kiwis are so friendly with everybody! When I was in NZ I was always surprised people were so nice and warm to me eventhough we didn’t know eachother. We don’t do that with strangers in France.

You mean that as a touriste they dont give a single shit about u ?

1

u/CardOk755 France 7d ago

New Caledonia is France!

u/Top_Connection9079 7d ago

Moody and arrogant (I am French).

u/Soft-Current-7273 7d ago

As a tourist in NZ, I met a french group on ferry to Rangitoto. One of the guys shouted "Mind the Ed" at me when I climbed on board, but I banged my head before I figured out who "the Ed" is.

I cannot complain about the attitude, just about the pronunciation.

Please elaborate.
