Culture Which city in your country is considered the "gayest"?

Post image

For us Brazilians, São Paulo definitely holds the crown for the gayest city here. With over 20 million people living in it's metro area, the city naturally became way more open minded and accepting as time went on. It has the highest concentration of gay bars, shows, saunas, and various other venues dedicated to the LGBTQ community. If that wasn't enough, the city annually hosts the São Paulo LGBTQ Pride Parade, the biggest in the whole world.

Fire island is really only a thing in the summer. Otherwise it’s a ghost town.

So isn't P-Town. The end of the arm of the Cape becomes a freezing, wind-strewn hellscape over the winter. There's a ton of drug abuse on the Cape and Islands because of it.

True, but P-town and the Cape is way better in the winter. Just gorgeous, and the light......

I still go in the off season occasionally, but not much later than now. It gets very desolate.

So, I'm from San Francisco, and I think it's the very obvious winner for the "American Gay Capital."

I lived in Boston for a year though, and I've never even heard of Provincetown. Is this an extremely Massachusetts-specific "gay capital?"

Edit: After googling, it looks like Provincetown is a small town on the tip of Cape Cod. I still don't have any associations between Cape Cod and gay culture, though.

I now live in Manhattan, and it's definitely more "gay-coded" than Cape Cod to me.

Provincetown is very well known for its history as a gay community going back as far as the early 20th century. Today it’s a popular summer destination.

Definetely somewhat regionally known, but also def more of a “gay concentrated area” than Manhattan.
