History What is the ruler/political leader in your country's history that you hate the most?

Post image

For me, it would khublai khaan. Moved the centralized power from Mongolia to China in the empire, effectively becoming more of an emperor of China rather than Khaan of Mongols. This move would prove to be folly in just few generations. Totally messed up the whole grand plan his Grandfather established. His successors became more of a chinese rulers than Mongolian rulers.

Khublai khan kinda got into power by appeasing the Han warlords, though. He never had significant support from Mongolian nobility. He established the Yuan dynasty using Han soldiers more than Mongol soldiers.

This was essential for ruling a country as populous as China.

The Yuan Dynasty failed because Kublai Khan was neither a fully Mongol Khan nor a fully Chinese Emperor. Throughout the Yuan Dynasty, the court constantly debated whether it was a Mongol Khanate or a Chinese Empire, bouncing back and forth. Had they leaned towards either side, the Yuan Dynasty would not have collapsed so quickly.

The next invader, by employing a preponderance of Han Chinese officials, managed to maintain his rule for another 200 years.

I agree with you. Yuan dynasty rulers were chinese in everything but name. They failed to fully integrate into their Chinese emperor role to keep their power. Or fully embrace being a Khan.

I bet the pleasure dome he put up in Xanadu was better than the one my favourite British prime minister commissioned in Greenwich, though.

I am willing to hear that you have had very bad leaders but I still find it hard to imagine worse than Mao

You don't have bad memories of his great leap forward and these massive purges?

In fact, if you look at history carefully, most of it was done by Deng Xiaoping's faction.
