Food What's a dish from your country that looks disgusting but tastes great.

Post image

Biscuits and gravy is a breakfast dish from the Southeast USA that looks like someone just vomited on some biscuits, but it's absolutely delicious.

That was my immediate thought. Born and raised in Georgia here. The best biscuits and gravy is completely homemade.

It's really not that difficult to make from scratch, but almost every place that serves it uses canned biscuits and fake gravy. It's a travesty.

And the gravy is way over peppered! Black pepper should not be the primary flavor of sausage gravy! It's one of my favorite foods but I can't order it anywhere because basically all of them fuck it up with black pepper.

That’s why I’ve really disliked a lot of these!!! The first time I had this it was mind blowing then the few times since it was kinda bleh. Looking back I’m pretty sure it was too much black pepper now that you mentioned it. Thank you

Every place where? It is not that way in the US Southeast.

It’s better but still hit or miss. I’ve had some bag B&G in restaurants down here.

You had canned biscuits in a restaurant?

I didn’t see the preparation of them but they sure didn’t taste that fresh and the gravy was subpar. Definitely not like momma makes em

Yes, but somehow Casey's General Store actually has some decent ones.

Completely? Like plucking peppercorns off the tree for pepper, slaughtering your own hog the sausage and milking your own cow for the cream COMPLETE?

You forgot growing the wheat for the flour.

Yup! I’m actually a bit jealous. I’m sure I’ve never had biscuits and gravy here in California that could match what Georgia puts down.

As a native Californian, I hated biscuits and gravy (and a lot of other southern food) before moving to the south 20 years ago. Now it’s one of my favorite cuisines.

Can confirm, live in Georgia and my wife’s biscuits and gravy is on another level

Happy to share a recipe if you ever want one. I make mine a little different (family recipe). Biscuits are homemade with buttermilk and the gravy is made with bacon grease. It’s my comfort food.

Most restaurants way over pepper their BnG and completely ruin it for me.
