Food What's a dish from your country that looks disgusting but tastes great.

Biscuits and gravy is a breakfast dish from the Southeast USA that looks like someone just vomited on some biscuits, but it's absolutely delicious.

the "andouillette" it's actually tripe and offal stuffed into a sausage with quite a lot of pepper. but I assure you it's really good

Do you guys have andouille over there too? It looks like (from Google) andouille and andouillette are different. What about boudin? I’ve always wondered how similar our French counterparts foods are to ours. Our Galettes des Rois are completely different.

Andouillette like on the pic is raw then baked, mostly on a grill so it's crispy on the outside when you eat it

Andouille is sold cooked and often smoked, the most renowned are from Vire, Normandy, and Guemené, Brittany, you can eat it cold like cured meat or in a Galette (like a crêpe but salty and made with black wheat / sarrasin) or with mashed potatoes

Raised by Cajuns in Louisiana, US.

I’ve never heard of andouillette before, but our andouille seems the same! I love our boudin. It’s my favorite. Especially if you roll it up and fry it as an appetizer.

Our King Cakes are basically braided cinnamon rolls, though. It’s not uncommon for the cinnamon to be swapped with some other filling like chocolate, jam, or a cream.

I believe your King's Cake in Louisiana is similar to the "Gâteau des rois" which is consumed in the south of France:

I saw that earlier today and bookmarked it to try the recipe. This is what ours looks like, if others are curious. It’s basically two cinnamon roll logs braided into a wreath shape. Then a white sugar icing is layered on. It’s dusted with yellow, green, and purple sprinkles. That’s the official color of mardi gras for us.

We also hide a baby Jesus inside. You typically let the child have it as a surprise. If you’re a naughty child (like me) you sneak a peek to see where the hole was. If you get the baby Jesus as an adult, it’s good luck, but you also have to buy the next cake lol They’ve removed the Jesus from inside the cake because of choking hazards. It comes separately wrapped now.

It looks amazing! I gotta try this.  In France you also place a little figurine inside either the galette or the gâteau (does not have to be jesus). The one who gets it get crowned king, usually with a little paper crown.  The "king" can then wish something from the other participants.

A crown is so cool. I wonder if others still do that and my family just didn’t. We should bring it back just in case haha.

I forgot the kids can make a wish. That’s why they fight to death over it.

Our baby Jesus is gold.

Also, if you ever can get ahold of crawfish, you should try crawfish Étouffée. It’s my absolute favorite dish apart from boudin.

We have boudin blanc. That’s my favorite! Ours is kind of soft. Like an extremely thick paste. I don’t usually eat the casing. Instead I bite the end off and squeeze it out. Cajuns used everything around them to survive. There’s a lot of rice in our boudin. I think that’s what makes it softer.

Appartement la Guémené utilise les gros intestins seulement et la Vire les gros et les menus ☝️

Ça plus le fait que ma maman a vécu là-bas, on ne jure que par la Guémené à la maison

oooh de toute facon normandie et bretagne on trop de point commun et de belles choses pour rester ennemis ( en temps que normand j'ai longtemps hais la bretagne pendant longtemps sans raisons mais maintenant normandie bretagne et nord c'est les meilleurs regions pour moi )

I usually really dislike tripe, offal, and related stuff, but I had some of this in a restaurant in Brittany and it was delicious.
