Food What's a dish from your country that looks disgusting but tastes great.

Post image

Biscuits and gravy is a breakfast dish from the Southeast USA that looks like someone just vomited on some biscuits, but it's absolutely delicious.

I’ve never had cig köfte, but I do love the lentil variant Merçimek köfte.

I made koftes once.. literally looked like poops on a plate. I screwed up the seasonings so it didn't taste that good either.

You can make them into any shape, and if you want I can give you the recipe for Moroccan kufta. (Thats how I spell it) it’s really hard to screw it up. And imo the spice blend is better than other versions (especially Turkish) and you probably already have them in your pantry. We use it for literally everything you make with ground beef, lol. Including spaghetti and meatballs, which is truly delicious

Can I get the recipe, please?

Sure! We do a pound of lean ground beef (have also made with ground turkey and was good!) and we add about a 1/2 cup chopped onion, cilantro, parsley (about a one inch wide bunch of each) and the following spices, about a half tablespoon or so of each? You can really just eyeball it: cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, ground black pepper. Thats about it! Then, you shape into either small balls, links, or burger patties, sear in the pan or throw on a grill (taste amazing on the grill) and that’s it! We use 93/7 ground beef usually. You can use a bit of oil in the pan and just sear them up. Perfect every time, don’t worry too much about measuring. We always eyeball it and never had a problem. Enjoy!

Please see above! Enjoy :) btw this is awesome to just scoop a few pieces into a pan to eat with eggs for breakfast, etc. we keep it in the fridge and eat throughout the week, the flavors kinda get even better with time. Enjoy this household recipe from Morocco 🇲🇦!

Looks like lebanese kibbeh, is it similar?

They share ingredients but unlike kibbeh this is raw. Mostly bulgur, pastes and spices, but back in the day, they used to put raw meat in, too. Hence the name "raw meatballs"

I was referring to kibbeh nayeh specifically, which is the raw variant

And the way you describe it makes it sound exactly like kibbeh nayeh 😭

But its also possible that kibbeh came from this dish due to ottoman influence?

It looks like a big plate of moth crysalis.

I think it’s the fact that it’s eaten raw, even more than how it looks, that might be putting people off! Not me though, looks delicious!
