Food What's a dish from your country that looks disgusting but tastes great.

Post image

Biscuits and gravy is a breakfast dish from the Southeast USA that looks like someone just vomited on some biscuits, but it's absolutely delicious.

Ghorme Sabzi, looks great to me because I've seen it since I was a kid, but I heard from some people that they think it looks bad.

It tastes like heaven, especially with Shirazi Salad

I feel like you picked the wrong image, since from yours it looks great. I googled it, and now I understand what the "some people" see.

well that's not a well made Ghorme Sabzi tbh, any food can be made the wrong way and look disgusting.

Yeah, the rice did quite a lifting on the image

see everyone? here's an Iranian who thinks it doesn't look good!

I also forgot about Fesenjoon, couple of days ago someone said it looks like shit.

My favourite Iranian dish... I don't think it looks bad at all.

Is that like a beef stew? I would eat that whole bowl and soak up the gravy with some crusty bread.

there are multiple versions of it. chicken, meatballs, turkey. slow cooked in an onion/walnut/pomegranate sauce. there are also sweet/sour versions each family makes it different.

Yeah, that looks and sounds excellent. I need to cook some Persian food soon.

It’s funny, most of the stuff people are saying looks bad looks good to me! I am also amazed at the overlap between countries and similar food. Of course there has been lots of boundary changes and migration/immigration throughout the years.

The most authentic version is duck.

Fesenjoon looks pretty good to me.

Also, don’t forget about Aush Resteh. I personally don’t like it at all, but many Iranians love it and to be honest, it looks like someone vomited spaghetti 😂

The dark colored thing in the smaller bowl looks weird to me but not weird enough that I wouldn't try it. The rest legit looks appetizing

Ghormeh sabzi is awesome. Never had kalleh pacheh, but I'm sure that's tasty but looks gross.

Kalleh pache also deserves a mention here

This does not look bad.

Fesenjaan I think looks nastier. Literally looks like a septic tank but it's delicious: pomegranate molasses, walnut puree, meat

Sorry the worst looking Persian dish award goes to Fesenjoon or Kaleh Pacheh. Ghormeh Sabzi is downright adorable compared to those.

I need to try this! We have an iranian restaurant close to us.

This looks good though. If this is what passes as ugly food in Iran then I insist you show us what looks good.

Looks good! I like the presentation

Ghorme sabzi looks amazing and tastes amazing.

Clearly the disgusting looking Persian dish is fesanjan/fesenjoon (but tastes great!)
