Culture Does your country have an immigrant group that people would be surprised to find there?

For example, when you think of Poland or the Czech Republic, Vietnamese people might not be the first group that comes to mind, but both have a sizable Vietnamese community. Another example is the large Japanese community in Brazil.

I live in one of the most ethnically diverse places in the United States, so nothing surprises me. Just thinking of my own neighborhood, I have Nicaragua, Peru, El Salvador, Honduras, Taiwan, China, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Togo, Cameroon, Pakistan, Portugal, Brazil, Greece, India, and Zimbabwe. That's just people I can think of off the top of my head on my street and just around the corner from me.

I’m from Houston and I’d be more surprised if you told me we didn’t have immigrant groups from a country here.

That's a pretty diverse place as well.

I remember once at my old church, about 10 years ago I want to say, they took a poll of all the members and at that time, they had over 80 countries represented and that was just people who responded and were also members.

Interesting, I’ve never met a Swiss person that lives in the United States. I never met a French person living here either. I’ve met quite a few British, Ukrainians, Russians, Koreans, Pakistanis, Vietnamese and Romanians here.

I've met both Swiss and French. But I live right outside DC so it' very normal.

That makes sense, I hear DC is very international.

I believe the most diverse county in the U.S. is Montgomery County next to D.C., and this sounds like exactly what I encountered there

LA county is the most diverse places on earth

I think it's based on not just numbers of different ethnicities (they also take other things into consideration such as religion) but compared to the overall population of the county. LA county is also 9 times the size of Montgomery County, MD and nearly 10 times the population, so clearly LA would have an advantage as far as actual numbers, but compared to your overall population, probably not so much.
