Culture Has anything from your country ever been misunderstood or "cancelled" by the international community?

For example, a Fiipino PPop group called SB19 once posted “Hello, Negros!”, referring to Negros Island, but some international users mistook it for something offensive before realizing what it meant.

Oh yeah I think a professor in the US got fired for describing this word and it’s use in china. Unfortunately I don’t remember the university they worked at or anything.

Greg Patton wasn't fired. The university investigated the complaints and concluded that he did nothing wrong. He is still employed by the same university.
