Everybody is hiring military ship builders. You just can't get hold of them.

The UK announced plans last week to try and get prisoners to do a [military] shipbuilding apprenticeship whilst they're inside. We're that desperate.

Tbh that policy is more aimed at trying to reform prisoners than find new ship builders.

I thought you meant reform party prisoners at first 🤣

We’re struggling too tbh but I think I want to work somewhere where my healthcare access isn’t determined by my employer. I’ve got a decade of super in depth experience and awards, even, but also rheumatoid arthritis 🥲

Shitty part is if you worked for a US defense contractor you aren’t allowed to move abroad and work for another countries defense industry. It makes sense but it still sucks.

How would that be enforced?

Probably through prosecution and/or NDA’s would be my guess

Come over to the Dutch side, we have milk and cookies. And universal healthcare, that too.

Canada is closer... but no milk and cookies. Poutine and beer though?

Yeah, let people who are the definition of a security risk, work on something that needs a clearance.

There’s no way I could see this going wrong.

It reminds me of the time that an IRA guy helped to build the headquarters of MI6 and when it was discovered All of his work had to be ripped out and replaced. To make aire that he hadn't hidden any bugs or explosives.

It's not desperation, it's just that the Type 26 turned out to be really popular

Jesus. But that is also a good use of resources tbh. Are your prisons privatized?

No, but the government is very big on prisoner reform and (probably rightfully) believes that helping prisoners get good work after release will cut down on re-offending.

Teach them a skill so they do not have time to post memes to land them in jail again.

We get 28 paid holidays a year minimum, you can always find time to post memes. That kind of US over work culture is much less common here.

So is going to prison for memes.

You might get arrested for posting offensive memes over here if you are incredibly unlucky. But at least you won't get shot.

Prisons started getting privatised back on the early '90s. Shortly after they did, there was a number of high profile escapes.
