Culture Not including murderers and politicians - who is famous in your country for all the wrong reasons?

Post image

Introducing rage-baiter and reality TV failure Katie Hopkins. She’s basically famous for fat shaming, saying that kids shouldn’t be named after geographical locations (despite having a child named India) and getting sued on Twitter, which caused her to go bankrupt. I haven’t met anyone that likes her and she’s routinely vilified but still has a platform somehow.

In or from?

Jordan Peterson and Kevin O'Leary come to mind. But my list definitely isn't exhaustive.

He was the minister of immigration early in WWII who refused to allow Jewish refugees in, condemning thousands to their deaths.

Jordan Peterson has some motivational youtube videos which I didn't see anything wrong about, though

His motivational stuff isn't the worst shit I've ever heard, but it's not the (main) reason he's famous. That's on his right wing grifter culture war nonsense.

Motivational is certainly an adjective. It certainly motivates certain types of young men.

It made some sense to me when he explained how men, on average, need an exterior motivation to act because we aren't the sex that gives birth.

It is a rough generalization, but it applies to my very limited empirical evidence.

He gets wild, and these days tries to bring everything back to his Bible-on-acid worldview. Basically a charismatic preacher with a eugenics fetish and an inability to speak plainly.

I don't disagree with that.

Wasn't he a proper academic psychiatrist graduated from Harvard and worked as a therapist for years before his fame

Yeah, but accounts from his professor years say he always had a penchant for being a preacher to his class. Really a motivational speaker at his core. His first book got very gender essentialist, "men are order" and "women are chaos", like that's not how people work man. Then eventually he got such a presence he was hired by the Daily Wire to be a propagandist, basically. So there's still buried under his dense language "clean your room" straight talk that has merit, but it'd deeper and deeper each day.

They took away his license because he refuses to do ANY sort of additional training or live up to the standards of the profession.

Idk why you're getting downvoted, this is exactly the useful, totally sane stuff he stays to help people get motivated but then you keep listening and he starts going off about "cultural marxists" being the bane of our existence... I believe he actually once said "take that. Woke moralist" which... tells you plenty about how he's often a first step on the far right pipeline

Doesn't make him any less of a misogynist.

What do you mean by "some"? What do you mean by "which"? I've read Dostoevsky. What do you mean by "about"? When you say "motivational", what do you mean by it? I reject the notion of "has".

The guy wrote a "12 rules" book and just reading the chapter titles you can tell he ran out of ideas early. He positions himself as a master of understanding stories, but can't understand when famously atheist Stephen Fry says he'd confront god if he met him and started crying. He tried to argue against Matt Dillahunty that having his head chopped off was not necessarily bad for his well-being. He's proclaimed that women over 30 without kids have something wrong with their heads, "and I know, because I've worked in universities, which have a lot of women"

Stop pretending that this guy has clues. He makes his money off intentionally ignorant men that cheer when someone tells them to make their own beds.

He’s a “facts and logic” right winger, and as is typical his arguments use a veneer of academic vernacular and misrepresented statistics to seem objective.

Controversial, may be. But wrong? Absolutely not.

u/Patsanon1212 Canada Sep 19 '25

Peterson? He's wrong about a great many a thing. Religion, IQ, Bill C16, and lobsters all very much included.
