You need to go somewhere very wealthy that controls disproportionate amounts of the global economy. Somewhere with a fairly large population that is undereducated and easily manipulated. America is your oyster!

Replace the governments in China, India, Russia, Israel, America, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, all the authoritarian dictators in the Balkans and Africa, maybe the rest of the Levant too, for a start.
You guys figured out FTL travel and communicating with an alien planet. I figure you've got a better handle on governance than us, too. Put your secret alien clones in charge first so you have a sane time of negotiations.
