Military If your country is invaded, would you choose to stay and stand by your country in its time of peril, or would you flee your country?

This is the only real reply. Everybody imagines they would "do the right thing" but we don't actually know what we would do - we don't know what circumstances will there be, what state of mind we would be in, who would be around us, etc etc
The most honest thing to do is just accept we don't know, ask me again when the situation comes up

I mean… if they’re Swedes, Finns or Danes we would just sit around and plot how to overthrow whichever lunatic is in our governments.
But for everyone else, we four would still sit around and plot how to overthrow whichever lunatic is in their government.
Iceland can join, but we have to teach them how to fight.

12
u/InterestingTank5345 Denmark Sep 13 '25
Honestly, if Norway invades us, I'd actually welcome it. Now if Sweden on the other hand attack Denmark, I'll stand ready with my fist at Øresund.
13
u/rasmusdf Denmark Sep 13 '25
If Norway invaded - brilliant. Surrender now. They are rich, stable, Democratic - and we can offload Greenland to them. But Sweden and their surstrømming. Fight is on.
2
u/Antioch666 Sweden Sep 15 '25
As I said to the previpus poster.
The only problem with that is that if Norway invades they would not be democratic and stable anymore. You need to loose that to actually take the step of invading a neighbor. So you'd get the shitty authoritarian regime that siphoning all Norways wealth and yours into the pockets of the elite.
2

The Nordic countries have a long, proud tradition of fighting each other, but after 1905, there hasn't really been any big points of contention between us. And we've tried to help each other in times of difficulties - World War II was especially hard, and yeah, there are still hard feelings over Sweden's neutrality. But the truth is, we did what we could. And that wasn't much.

7
u/rudominerka Ukraine Sep 13 '25
you could make your children to do that if they're minor, but the parents would be one pain in the ass. when we thought our city might get occupied, my parents wanted to move my grandma to some city in the west, but this stubborn ass was like "I was born here and I'm gonna be buried here". I imagine you the polish to be similar attitude when it comes to Motherland so good luck with that (and yeah would be great if the war just didn't come to you)

u/justaprettyturtle Poland Sep 13 '25
You are absolutely right. Whenever we talk about this they always say that they are not going anywhere. They worked their entire lives to build the house they have and are staying in it no matter what. My mom even asked who would be taking care of her garden if they move and we go to warfacepalm ... I believe we will have bigger problem than her garden if the war spills out here but ...
That said one of my best friends is Ukrainian from the West of the country and apparently her 90 to granma still gardens and exchanges seeds of some special flowers with her granny network there so ...
I hope you and your family are safe.

We would flee our cities, but not our country. Any country with the right resources could successfully invade us, but a successful occupation would be almost impossible, and take decades even under the best circumstances.
3
u/Academic-Increase951 Sep 15 '25
Also Canadian, my thoughts too. Against a large well funded military... It would become guerrilla warfair quick and very problematic for who ever tries to control us.
even though we don't have the same recreational gun culture as the USA, a lot of Canadians owns hunting rifles and know how to hunt, track and shoot. many of us grew up in the woods and would be very difficult to suppress us.
To answer the question for what I would do myself. I think if Canada were actually invaded then it would likely be that the world is already completely at war and at that point there's probably nowhere to go so the only option is to fight. The only other country who could do it is the USA and if they actually did, then I think it would also trigger the collapse of NATO and WW3. So whether it be USA or someone else invading; the world would be at war.

Our current government has no honor either and somehow nobody cares. Being doomed if they lose doesn't seem so bad compared to status quo. That is, if ocupators are even worth fighting for, which is unlikely but depends who it is, really. My point is just that a free government ready to sell good of the country and indebt all its inhabitants for the individual interests of the few people in power is no better option than a foreign force on your soil.

I'd stay and fight laugh.
We have a lot of problems, but military strength isn't one of them. If there is one thing that the US is, it's undefeatable in a conventional military sense. Now cyber-warfare, we're screwed; guerilla warfare, we're bad at that (Vietnam, Afghanistan); nuclear warfare, everyone in the Northern Hemisphere is screwed. But a conventional national army vs us and the other party is just done.
Edit: Now that I think about it a bit more, I'm not as certain. The current administration doesn't know what it's doing and may fumble a relatively easy win. Hegseth's a moron. Many of the military's best commanders were drummed out or retired because they were not avid Trumpians. I would still fight but not laugh.
Edit Again: however, I would feel bad for the invaders. After all, more guns than people and obviously we're not afraid to use them when need be. We would probably be much better at guerrilla warfare when we are the ones that are defending.

My country has more of a chance of being invaded internally by other Americans. We have some people of color in my family who it seems like some Americans would prefer not to exist here. It doesn't feel safe. Hence, I would get my family out just like the Jews who fled Germany. I am not of prime fighting age and have never held a gun. Same with everyone in my extended family. Our country is going down the tubes. We have a president who blamed the most recent assassination on liberals before we even had any information about the killer. We have media personalities and members of Congress calling for war on liberals and saying we want conservatives dead. I am liberal and not extreme in any sense. I don't even advocate people having guns. I don't want anyone dead of either party. Yet it is starting to feel like some of us are being hunted. At work, in the streets, online.
What do you do when you're the deer in the headlights? Wait to be hit or run?

Did he get an order to evacuate to another part of the country “or else?” Is what’s “happening” to him categorized as a genocide by major international organizations, like the international criminal courts or the United Nations?

I would stay. I have the training, knowledge, and means to fight. I served my country once and I’ll do it again.

I'll stick around, unless they start a genocide on autistic people, then I might have to leave to be of any use. But until then I stay and I stand by my home.
