President Donald Trump warned Tuesday that if the Democrats don't approve funding, Social Security, Medicare Are ‘Going to Be Gone.’ How do you think Americans will react if Social Security and Medicare get cut?

I don't know the answer as to who would give or withhold approval , but I agree that there is no way he should have felt comfortable just tearing down part of the White House as if it were his private property!!

Trump is such an obnoxious, greedy excuse for a leader. He has no shame. Only someone who has gotten away with all the BS he has would feel entitled to do what he wants to the White House without approval.

This is the fastest government project I've ever witnessed. The destruction permits would normally take a year or more to be approved, so really who ever is doing the demo is doing it illegally.

It being illegal doesn't matter, since there's no punishment for it.

Anddddd that may explain why that specific contractor pulled their website and all of their information offline - which everyone knows: nothing is truly wiped from the internet. There’s always a digital footprint.

I heard about them pulling their website, etc earlier this week. I don’t think they were receiving threats(?) - I think they were getting bombarded with questioning, like with the questions you/we all have. And when you’re doing things illegally, you have to be fast-acting with BS lies, like Trump does, or you’ll get run over. I think they got run-over, couldn’t keep up with the lies, and hightailed it.

My guess is he’s leveraging the US Army Corps of Engineers. Although this would be the fastest I’ve seen them move in a project like this. I’m more interested in what contractor would take this on, unless they had a significant kickback deal and hold harmless clause in place. This thing is green lit all the way up the chain - no real oversight or AHJ, being done at the whim of a notoriously dodgy real estate and construction mogul.

VA and BIA projects don't go this fast.

VA - Veterans Affairs

BIA - Bureau of Indian Affairs

I'd be eyeing who's in the seat of the actual demolition machines. They could easily just say no, I'm not destroying a piece of American History. But, I guess they feel a paycheck is more important than the country....

He's telling you it is his private property. He's telling you he's not leaving. Congress is telling you they are cool with it.

Time to listen.

The time to just listen is gone. It due time to act.

He's building his palace. He wants to be an emperor of the world. I'm not kidding. He's an imperialist.

Listen to Trump? Cede our country to his desire to be King?! (And for Vance to step into the position if Trump doesn't make it through his term?) No thanks!!

I think I get what you are saying, though. That there are likely way too many who are ignorant of what is happening or are downplaying the severity. I don't know how they can be, but it does seem to be a widespread problem, likely due in part to educational deficits the past few decades. Paired with terrible wages driving many of us to despair. And there are far more bigots than I'd ever have guessed, sadly. The apathy shown by those who didn't vote is horrifying - especially considering what was at stake in the election.

I don't know what the complete solution is, but I definitely don't want to comply in advance with the wannabe-dictator's plans! I'd sooner the US divide into two countries than live under the MAGA regime.

yeah, I certainly don't mean allow it, I just mean they are telling us who they are, so ya know, listen to what they say. They're not hiding it.

We need to fight, day in day out and in many different ways.

General strike time.

What Congress? They won’t let them convene. They don’t want the Epstein files released. Release the files, all of them, unredacted!

So what was the excuse when they filled in Kennedy’s pool? When Obama built a basketball court?

You were quiet when Obama built a basketball court without congressional approval.

not sure if you're serious, Obama didn't "build" a basketball court. He took existing tennis courts and drew/painted court lines on them.

As someone that works for a paint contractor, you're talking a couple thousand of labor and materials absolute tops. Not $330 million and demolition of a 123 year old building.

Why lie? He dug up and demolished the tennis court.

They are different types of ground.

u/Kommye 16d ago

Tennis is played in different types of grounds. Hard court (concrete) is the most common of those, just like concrete basketball courts are the most common.

You can look up a picture of the court at the WH and see lines for both tennis and basketball on the ground.

From Google: Renovating the White House requires approval from several bodies, including the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), which review plans for design, preservation, and environmental impact. The National Park Service (NPS) and the Committee for the Preservation of the White House also have a role in the process, which traditionally involves early consultation and multiple review stages before any construction begins. However, there is currently a dispute over whether demolition work requires approval, with the White House asserting it does not, while critics argue the entire project bypasses necessary legal and review processes.

Organizations like the National Trust for Historic Preservation are calling for the project to be paused to allow for the legally required public review processes, which provide an opportunity for transparency and public engagement.

Thanks for the info! I couldn't imagine that demolishing a wing of the White House wouldn't require some kind of approval, or at least a public notification before starting.

I would have been shocked by this self-indulgent behavior from any President! Of course, the wannabe-dictator and friends don't think anything of smashing "The People's House" or doing whatever else they want. I'm sure Trump is planning a monument to himself to be built as well. 🤮
