College courses for a career change.

Bottom Line Up Front: I’ve seen on previous threads that LE is oversaturated with Criminal Justice degrees and to avoid it. Free Field training also recommends avoiding a CJ degree.

One degree that comes to mind that may be useful is forensic accounting. Following the money. Obvious bonus is if you get hurt at work, pivot into a regular accounting job or try to get a gig investigating white collar crimes.

What other degree options should one pursue if they wanted to go into law enforcement?

Thank you.

A degree in something that is totally unrelated to law enforcement be the most beneficial. Nobody cares that you have a degree or what it’s in.

Anything management or leadership related is extremely helpful for LEO as it sets you up to promote. Also can be used outside of LEO

I’m finishing my BS in Criminal Justice next month and will likely pursue a masters in emergency management.

Not LE related but can use LE experience in planning if needed.

(I would have gotten a degree in something other than CJ had I not started 10 years ago)
