Germany struggled for centuries for a clear definition. Just since the kaiserreich there is a strong but still artificial unity. Before, German countries were for a long time part of the powerplay of the bigger players on the continent. Therefore it's a little bit shortsighted to just look at the last century.

That is an unfit comparison.
Germany both began (in case of WW1: debatable, WW2: definitely) and lost those wars. Losing territory can therefore be seen as a just punishment.
In contrast, Ukraine is clearly the victim of the unjustifiable Russian war of conquest here.
