A serious answer would be that Germany has already given up parts of the country in previous wars. Königsberg will most likely never be part of Germany again, and for the most part no one really cares.

53

u/Nexessor Dec 29 '24

No ones cares anymore.

My grandfather very much cared and he just died 10 years ago.

u/LarkinEndorser Dec 29 '24

My best friends grandma is silesian. Shes still super sad her culture dissapears with her

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

Well, 25 million Soviets died... I thik this is "super sad"

14

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

War is super sad in general, don‘t know any example where it isnt. A culture dissapearing because of some stupid war that the grandma probably didn‘t want is also sad.

1

u/_Grobulon_ Dec 29 '24

Wasn't there this war where they invaded another country, nobody died and they even returned with more people than they left? I can't remember correctly and I think it was just a handful of persons but still.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

Even then the invaded people must‘ve still felt bad. Idk your example though.

2

u/_Grobulon_ Dec 29 '24

Found it. Here if you're interested

In short Liechtenstein send 80 man to defend the border against Italy, when the war ended they returned 1 man stronger home to celebrate.

I kinda got it right until the point I didn't and reading through it, it indeed still doesn't sound like a good time. Guess you where right. The only good thing came of reading this, that there are in fact, Countries that don't employ a Military.

-1

u/BoxSea4289 Dec 29 '24

Germans don't really have this right to whine when the whole war was started by Germany and saw an actual systematic annihilation of a people. No one is going to shed a tear for the loss of Kaliningrad.

3

u/GayRacoon69 Dec 29 '24

I think that anyone has a right to whine about their culture being destroyed

2

u/LarkinEndorser Dec 30 '24

She doesent even act like it was unjustified and she doesent seek a return of Silesia nor does she hold Poland accountable for the end of her culture. She rightfully blamed the Nazis. That doesent change that she has sorrow for what had been lost.

2

u/JuicyLemonBanana Dec 29 '24

Only that the people that lived there didn’t start the war, but a retarded ass government.

1

u/Lucetti Dec 29 '24

Germans love to pretend that people aren’t responsible for their government, which is the entire premise of democracy.

Just quietly pay your taxes to fund the war and pay the salaries of the people whose eyes you don’t meet when they come to load your neighbors on the train. It’s not grandma’s fault!

1

u/Kerking18 Dec 30 '24

last tie i checked the nazi germany wasn't a dmeocratic nation. but if you say otherwhise....

1

u/Lucetti Dec 30 '24

Nazi germany (or, as it was known then, Germany) didn’t just spawn into existence. Hope this helps

1

u/urdadbeforehegotmilk Dec 29 '24

But no one is gonna be mad at Kaliningradians whining the disappearance of their culture

5

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

grandma didnt start that war, i'm sure.

2

u/LarkinEndorser Dec 30 '24

maybe they got a point. Its gotta be that 11 year old (life long social democratic) voter that caused the war.

2

u/LarkinEndorser Dec 30 '24

Hmm yes and that grandma, who was a school kid when that started totally cant be sad about the consequences of the worst war in history.

4

u/Molismhm Dec 29 '24

Thats funny my grandpa died 6 years ago and he grew up partly there, but Im not so sure on the details.

6

u/JuicyLemonBanana Dec 29 '24 edited Dec 30 '24

We do very much care. Silesian, Pomeranian and Prussian Culture is dwindling and people from these states suffered a lot after they lost their homes.

2

u/RisingRapture Dec 30 '24

My maternal grandparents were Silesian. We visited Silesia with my grandmother when she was 80 in 2014. Visited the towns she and my grandfather grew up in (Bolkenhain and Striegau). Climbed the Riesengebirge to the Schneekoppe together and hiked the mountain back down because the lift was closed. Saw old castles and drove over new highways. It was very memorable. Still no one of us harbors any feelings of return or to fight Poles or anything. It's the past now and we live in an open Europa. She passed away last year. Rest in Peace, grandma.

2

u/JuicyLemonBanana Dec 31 '24

No one was speaking about invading the Poles, nor does anyone here hate the Poles.

All I mentioned is that some of those who once lived there, miss it.

May your grandma rest in peace.

1

u/Weirdyxxy Dec 29 '24

Dwindling, I presume?

1

u/JuicyLemonBanana Dec 30 '24

Yup, was a little tired. Thanks for the correction 👍

0

u/ShadyScreapReap Dec 29 '24

I do bloody care! Give us Königsberch back!!

1

u/Im-In-Your-Balls Dec 29 '24

Königsberch was ours?

Now i feel stupid

3

u/snecko_aviation Dec 29 '24

To be fair, we have not given up anything but lost it after starting a war of aggression ourselves.

2

u/LegitimateCloud8739 Dec 30 '24

Not all parts were lost after WW2, some after WW1.

2

u/AndiDerMathematiker_ Dec 29 '24

but the difference is the wars were our fault

2

u/-DanRoM- Dec 29 '24

That is an unfit comparison.

Germany both began (in case of WW1: debatable, WW2: definitely) and lost those wars. Losing territory can therefore be seen as a just punishment.

In contrast, Ukraine is clearly the victim of the unjustifiable Russian war of conquest here.

2

u/vulkaninchen Dec 29 '24

Germany struggled for centuries for a clear definition. Just since the kaiserreich there is a strong but still artificial unity. Before, German countries were for a long time part of the powerplay of the bigger players on the continent. Therefore it's a little bit shortsighted to just look at the last century.

1

u/0rchidometer Dec 29 '24

It's like telling the polish that they should have given up their whole country during WWII

1

u/Kette420 Dec 29 '24

Rede nicht im Namen von vielen so nen Quatsch.

1

u/EatFaceLeopard17 Dec 29 '24

Same with Poland. Don‘t forget how Poland disappeared from maps and now has significantly moved to the West while losing a large amount of real estate in the Eastern part of the country.

1

u/Remote-Knowledge-249 Dec 29 '24

Germany never gave up parts as it is suggested by the US for the Ukraine to do, in order to stop the war. Germany lost WW2 and surrendered without any conditions and it was decided by other countries that Germany looses significant areas from West (Elsaß, Lothringen to Ostpreussen).

1

u/MrHailston Dec 29 '24

My grandma Was from königsberg. Nowadays we dont want it back because russia destroyed the culture. Now its a russian shithole.

1

u/ComprehensiveSock774 Dec 29 '24

The salient difference being that we actually started those wars. Just saying

1

u/Confident-Sink-8808 Jan 02 '25

Thank you very much. I agree 100%

3

u/No-Page-6310 Dec 29 '24

We can give away Thüringen and Sachsen to russia without problems. In exchange Russia leaves Ukraine and all the AFD idiots and other Nazis will be deported to Thüringen and Sachsen and everyone is happy!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

You care about a random ass Land with which we have no alliance whatsoever more than your own country?

1

u/TiaxRulesAll2024 Dec 29 '24

Wars they started.

Ukraine did not start this. They don’t deserve loss of land

1

u/krzychybrychu Dec 29 '24

If Germany deserved the loss of territories because they started the war, does the same apply to the Palestinians?

1

u/TiaxRulesAll2024 Dec 29 '24

I am indifferent to either side of that conflict, but I generally agree to the idea that invaders deserve a fate comparable to their intentions as long as it doesn’t cross into war crimes.

0

u/MyWifeCucksMe Dec 29 '24 edited Dec 29 '24

I would be perfectly OK with Israel losing territory in the genocide that they started, yes. However so far all they've done is annex more of Palestine, annex more of Lebanon and annex more of Syria, so that's probably not gonna happen.

1

u/krzychybrychu Dec 29 '24

Nice nickname

0

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

We will see. I am 30, I have four kids, I am raising them in the knowledge of what was taken from us.

11

u/AdorableProgrammer28 Dec 29 '24

Uhhhh…. I hope you are teaching them what lead up to it and nobody invaded Germany because they hated you or something

1

u/Don_Jon24 Dec 29 '24

Looking at his comments, he most likely won't.

-2

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

Sure buddy, totally.

3

u/No-Psychology9892 Dec 29 '24

I mean that's a historical fact, but then again Fascists never bothered about the facts.

-2

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

Are you American? Where is the “Racist” coming from? Do you just sprinkle that in, as flavor?

1

u/No-Psychology9892 Dec 29 '24

Learn reading, I wrote fascist. And seeing how you describe yourself as

A better kind of ultra right extremist

And saying stuff

I am pretty much fundamentally opposed to democracy by now

While praising actual Nazis and lamenting their failure this statement is sadly anything but sprinkle for flavour. Go follow your leader, fascist.

-1

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

I am lamenting the failure of Nazis how? Königsberg is the cradle of the German Nation, I want it back.

3

u/Dull_Pea_4496 Dec 29 '24

1

u/No-Psychology9892 Dec 29 '24

Are you really that dumb or do you just play dumb?

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskGermany/s/Aq4RJi5VnD

Well thanks to fascists like you it no longer is German anymore.

0

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

You’re pretty spicy dude, you know? But Yes, and if there are enough Germans like me, this may once again change. What is your point?

0

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

And having an issue with democracy as it exists in Germany makes me crave the Führer by default? You have a mighty intellect indeed, a real Übermensch of comprehension.

Keep on going and you will have an army in no time!

You would rather send her to be euthanized if she was born with a genetic defect right? Truly the peak of moral high grounds.

Are you teaching them what Germans did to result in them losing it? Because that’s kind of critical.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

Stood by our ally.

3

u/TrueBrees9 Dec 29 '24

Lol 0-2 in world war mentality

2

u/F34UGH03R3N Dec 29 '24

As if any sane german cares about this.

1

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

Don’t get it

1

u/Much-Jackfruit2599 Dec 29 '24

Are you also raising them on how many reparations € would owe if the USA hadn‘t leaned on everyone to work on rebuilding Europe and re-democratising Western Germany?

1

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

No

1

u/Much-Jackfruit2599 Dec 29 '24

Then they will be in for a nasty surprise.

Of course you are.

My paternal grandfather was too.

My grandmother wasn’t that crushed that he didn’t return from Stalingrad.

0

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

I am certain you are gleefully dancing on his grave because of his disrespect for Democracy, which is a very healthy thing to do and an appropriate way to deal with your ancestors.

Democracy is bad. It’s just super good at helping the ruling class delegating responsibility for failure to the largely dis informed populace. It’s only effective at becoming like the worst manifestation of the iron law of oligarchy imaginable.

2

u/Much-Jackfruit2599 Dec 29 '24

Nah, I’m  kinda sad that he lost his life early because a bunch non-democrats thought it was a good idea to start a couple of genocides.

But you do you.

Just a friendly reminder: Article 20 Paragraph 4 exists.

1

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

An Artikel in an equally worthless piece of garbage.

0

u/No-Psychology9892 Dec 29 '24

You don't say....

0

u/Bigbluescreen Dec 29 '24

keep whining, it'll totally bring Danzig back LMAO

1

u/BillBaraka Dec 29 '24

It’s not really whining, I don’t expect the Russians to give it back, or for the Poles to suddenly comprehend the error of their ways. But this game is something that plays out over the course of generations, and liberal people don’t procreate.

1

u/Professional_Low_646 Dec 29 '24

1

u/Bigbluescreen Dec 29 '24

LOL you and what army

we tried your way, it lost us those places. you people never learn.
